Re: [providencevelo] need help w/ finding good commuting route!

Hmm, hard one to answer.  I live off of Smith St. up by the capital building.  I do many rides off to the west and north through that area.  Yes I think you're safe riding an expensive bike.  That part is fine.  The big BUT is that drivers there are even less sane than the drivers in the rest of this street.  When heading around that area a  year or so agao, I got hit head on at about 30 mph by a truck that decided his lane was too slow and came into oncoming traffic with a lane sepparating gardin.  I had no place to go and he didn't see me until well after he hit me.  High? drunk?  I hate to be so judjemental about areas, but it seems liek EVERYBODY out there is trashed while in cars.  If there is any good part, I still am fine and riding, while I got a 36,000.00 settlement check this week.  Maybe I should tell you it's a profit???  Good luck, just remember to be really careful there.

Hi,

I am hoping to start commuting to work as soon as the weather warms up
just a touch. I will be commuting from Borrington to CCRI in Warwick.
I mapped it online and tried to connect the east bay bike path to the
one in Cranston/warwick. At this time I have to cross over into Prov
on the Henderson (red) bridge, grab Westminster over 95 and then onto
Cranston street over to Route 10 to then hit the start of bike path
there. As I was venturing down Cranston street though, I seemed that
this area was most likely not my best route to ride 2x day especially
on a shiny new bike (which is all I have right now).

Any one know the area well? Were my impressions correct (ie: good
place to get your hard drugs, not great to ride your bike in) Any one
have any suggestions for bypassing this area? Thanks

syl
