POTOMAC POLO NEWS
We've just returned from another awesome polo road trip to
Before we left for Aiken the weather in Maryland was very wet. But the arena made training possible. Kyla and Margaret (to the right) put in some saddle time during a brief respite from the rains.
His and her rigs as Mary and Dante take a lunch stop at the Cracker Barrel somewhere in North Carolina.
This is what a trailer looks like after holding horses for 10 hours...after Dante has cleaned it!
The Red Eagle Ranch South Polo Field (upon arrival). Why bother mowing when there are 20+ other polo fields ready and waiting to be played? We'll make hay instead. Our first day on the polo field. The horse get accustomed to the routine. The trailers start to arrive at Meadow Hill Field No. 3 at 302 Polo Club. Mary takes in the 14 goal semifinals at New Bridge Polo Club, Field No. 2. Team Red Eagle takes it's place at the head of the line of players at CII Polo Club Field No. 2. Dante's number 1 horse Mono, who slimmed down considerably as the weeks of play carried along. Mono and Zuni in the classic "you scratch my back I'll scratch yours" position. Mono, Dante and Hopi relax in the waning hours of the day back at Red Eagle Ranch South. Mono and Dante with Snowflake oblivious to the camera. The sun sets at the Red Eagle Ranch South. Another day, another polo field. This time we're playing at Brigadoon Polo Club Field No. 2. At Brigadoon the trailers line up for the game. Dante on the far left breaks protocol for the perpendicular line up. Look close. Mary and the players head downfield. Mary on Stewart smiles for the camera. A warmup for Stewart prior to the next chukker. Mary takes the ball in for the knock in while closely covered by Greg Linehan.
Mary and Stewart head to the trailers. Mary makes a quick dismount to get on her next horse Mary and Zuni take a moment before play resumes. Dante always seems to have a bit of work to do, even when on vacation. Okay, I should have worn safety glasses and gloves. Another day and another game at 302 Polo Club for Team Red Eagle. On the way to another polo game we came across a newborn fawn. Mary stopped to pet the little one. Of course the fawn was gone by the time we returned from our game. A truly awesome field at Loughrea Plantation Polo Field No. 2 Mary heads in from a chukker at Loughrea Plantation. Mary and the players mix it up at Loughrea Plantation. Mary is all smiles after the game with Hopi. / Dante looking very serious with Crow and Snowflake in tow.
On our last day we found that some Black Snakes had invaded our birdhouse. It didn't seem fair to the birds so Dante peeled the roof off and evicted the snakes. Actually, I took the roof off and let the snakes leave at their leisure. Overall, it was the best polo experience in my relatively short polo career. Mary and I are certainly glad to be back but we are really excited to return to Aiken for the fabulous Fall polo season.
