The wet weather has hit us hard this past week, but we managed to
get in quite a bit of polo. Potomac Polo School held an excellent
class on the Red Eagle Field No 1 on Thursday evening. We had a lot
of fun scrimmaging and relaxing at the barn for some good
conversation after the practice. On Friday, I participated in the
semifinals of the USPA 4-goal tournament at Maryland Polo Club with
another team from the Potomac Polo Club. We came back from a
halftime deficit to tie and eventually pull ahead for the win 8-7
over a very strong home team from that club. We'll return on July
9th for the finals. On Saturday, the Red Eagle Ranch Polo Team,
including Mary, brother Joe and Lou Lopez and son LJ from the
University of Virginia's polo program decisively defeated the Seneca
Polo Team in the finals of the 6-Goal, USPA Centennial Cup.
Congratulations to Mary and the Red Eagle Team! The after party was
a lot of fun with plenty of wine, beer, and barbequed delights.
Special thanks to Kathleen Dunleavy for attending both matches and
as always offering tremendous encouragement.
Of course, we are holding school class tonight in the Red Eagle
Arena. However, if you are not already signed up it's way too late
to attend. There's always next week.
The Potomac Polo Club is hosting another USPA-sanctioned tournament
this weekend. The 6-Goal, Independence Cup will commence on
Saturday in the arena. We are expecting at least four teams and
have scheduled two matches per day on Saturday and Sunday. It
should be an awesome weekend of arena polo with games on Saturday at
11AM and 1PM; on Sunday at 10AM and 12PM. Please feel free to come
out and watch.
