Polo This Week, 15 December 2003   Message List

Sunday's lesson was jam packed with 12 students and several others
turned away due to a full class but dangerous road conditions due to
the snowstorm put a stop to that. It's great to see such a high
level of interest in polo this later in the year. We're looking at
some evening classes this week and the final classes for the year on
Saturday and Sunday. So give Mary a call now and book your spot
because unless you play with the Red Eagle Polo Team and the Potomac
Polo Club in the offseason, you'll have to wait until April to get
started again. We will continue to collect USPA membership dues
from all students this week and weekend. Please be sure to bring
your checkbook, it'll be $35 to join and and additional $40 for a
monthly one year subscription to the very informative and beautiful
Polo Players Edition magazine published by the USPA.

The Fall 2003 League is now complete. The final on Saturday had
some interesting twists and turns. I stepped down for the day to
work the camera and was replaced by Asmeen, which rounded out the
Black Team of Marcos and Ryan C. Dr. Keith R., Jim T. and Julia S.
were the Red Team. The Black Team picked up one goal at the start
on a handicap adjustment. Black had entered the final with an
impressive record of 3 wins and no losses versus 3 losses for Red.
Red picked up a few goals in the first chukker but by halftime Black
was surging back and in the lead 3-2. Their rapid scoring just
before halftime suggested that once again Red would be left without
a win. But Mary Muldoon provided some intensive coaching at the
halftime break and once they hit the field in the third chukker it
was all over for the Black Team. The final score was 8-4 for Red
with Team Captain Jim picking up an impressive 5 goals supported by
a not too far behind three goals from Julia including an awesome
backshot that almost defied physics to make it into the goal.
Marcos picked up a goal and one goal apiece was knocked in by Ryan
and Asmeen.

We're planning an awards party after the new year and expect that
it'll be at the Madison Hotel in Washington DC. It should be a
superb event for all of our students and league players to recall a
great 2003 season and get psyched up for 2004. We'll contact
everyone with details as it develops.

The website will be updated in the offseason. We'll add new student
profiles, league photos, and a new feature--10 second playing clips
of individuals linked to their student profiles, which should be
pretty cool. I'm planning on making them short but fairly high
resolution. Hope to see you this week at the arena.
