Polo carried on just fine in spite of last week's hurricane. We had
a nice riding for polo class on Tuesday followed by hurricane
preparations for the farm and horses on Thursday with cleanup on
Saturday. On Saturday night Red Eagle Polo hosted a superb evening
with good attendance by Potomac Polo Club and Potomac Polo School
members at the rail side party for the U S Arena Polo Championship.
Unfortunately, our team with Joe Muldoon III, which led for three of
four chukkers came up a few goals short in the end, but that's
remarkable considering that Joe had to play one horse twice because
of an injury to his best horse on the drive over to Virginia.
Sunday had a full class at 11AM with nine students and a round robin
scrimmage. I didn't play but had the opportunity to watch and the
teams certainly had a good time. And then it was a fast break to
the barn to get ready for the six chukker Club match at 3PM. Mary,
Marcos, Julia and I represented the Red Eagle Polo, although the
handicapping placed Julia on the opposing team. It was great to
play with Mary, Marcos, Javier and Wayne and we managed to
effectively control the opposition for pretty much the entire
match. Julia and Marcos came back strong from the late August break
and Marcos picked up his first goal at the Club level (way to go
Marcos!). Julia looked impressive on the field and in the video
analysis after the match—she's pretty much the student for all
others to try to beat. I picked up a couple of goals but I really
had to shake my head in amazement after the sixth chukker when I
switched sides and played against Mary's team and they made it so
tough that my team couldn't buy a goal. Nevertheless, we had a
super afternoon and are looking forward this fall to more fun with
the school and the club for our advanced students.
Classes are on for weeknights this week as well as a full session on
Saturday. Call now to signup.
