Everyone who ventured out for more polo these past few days had a
superb experience. Once again we had full classes on Saturday and
Sunday. Sunday's class at 11AM had ten students. An unfortunate
individual who neglected to call and simply showed up was left on
the sidelines. Although we do everything we can to accommodate
students, we can't hold up the entire class to send someone on the
staff out in the field to catch a extra horse, groom the horse, and
tack it up at the last minute. Everyone needs to realize that it
simply takes time to get your horses ready. Typically, we start
preparing the horses 2 hours before each class and that's why we
can't accommodate last minute changes to the lineup.
So don't miss out on summer polo because of poor planning. Call the
hotline early in the week and sign up because classes really do get
closed. Also, it's important for everyone to show up on time. When
just 1 out of 9 students shows up late it delays everyone. So
please be considerate of your team mates and get to the barn 5-10
minutes early. And besides, it's fun to relax in the lounge area
and chat with the other players.
There will be polo school classes Tuesday and Thursday nights this
week. Team Red Eagle Polo is likely to play on Wednesday night in
the arena. The winter league consolation match will be held July
12. Teams are be reconsolidated at this time. Call Mary for
details. Mary is also planning for the summer clinic. This should
be a superb clinic, with instruction by Mary (1 goal), Charlie (6
goals), and assistance from Luis (3 goals). If you can make the
time, don't miss this one!
We'd like to thank Dr. Val Baliad for his kind words that he posted
to this news page. Val certainly is a favorite of so many of us
that it was really nice to have him return for a few sessions. Mary
and I are looking forward to playing some Hawaiian island polo with
Val in the near future.
And special thanks to all the students and friends (Delrie, Mike H.,
Mark W., Kerry T., Wilson, Vicky and John--if I forgot someone I
apologize) who lingered (and those made a special trip out—Kevin and
Devorah) to watch Mary, Luis and I play polo on Sunday afternoon
with the Potomac Polo Club. I'd also like to thank Devorah for
cooling down my horse from the first chukker and Kerry for running
around in the groom role when needed). We played on mixed teams
until the last chukker wherein all three of us regrouped as Team Red
Eagle Polo. Team Red Eagle Polo is definitely getting tighter and
we were quite pleased to shut out our clearly stronger opponents 2-0
in the last chukker. It was lots of fun and we hope everyone who
attended felt the same. We really appreciate the support from our
school players.
I added another page (page 9) of student photos to the
Redeagleranch.com website (Cesar, Victoria, Kevin and Delire).
There's more coming, I just can't take enough time from polo to sit
in front of my monitor on weekends. That's it for now. See you out
on the field this week.
