We had a fun weekend with two very full classes on Saturday and
Sunday, which enabled the students to enjoy a round robin format for
their scrimmages after working on their stick and ball skills and
some training drills up and down the field. Classes will be held
this week on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6PM. Also, a private
polo event will be held Saturday afternoon so the 1PM class will be
moved to earlier in the day. Please check the hot line for
details.
Sunny summer days bring out a lot of polo players so please call and
schedule your lessons early in the week. Also, a few people are not
current with their payments. We're glad that everyone enjoys the
PPS and at the same time it is important to remember that a lot of
money, time and effort goes into preparing your horse—and not just
the day you get on. Seven days a week, year-round preparation is
happening behind the scenes to make sure that everything goes
smoothly. Costs incurred by the PPS are large and constant and
include: feeding, vet bills, shoeing, training, cost of bridles,
saddles, protective boots, pads, trailers, trucks, fuel, barn costs,
grounds keeping, staff costs and much, much more. Mary will notify
you this week, but we emphasize that everyone please remember to
bring your checkbooks and pay for your lessons IN ADVANCE as is the
PPS policy.
Also, please review the cancellation policy. Remember, if you
neglect to provide proper cancellation notice you'll be charged.
Some people ask why, and the reason is clear—when someone cancels
without adequate notice we typically have turned someone else away
for the spot that is now unfilled. That lost opportunity disrupts
the balance of the class and has a real cost impact. Also, last
minute cancellations result in the PPS staff expending unnecessary
time catching, grooming, tacking and preparing horses for riders
that do not show. So if you miss your class and have not provided
the necessary notice you can understand why you will be charged.
The opportunity to play polo at the PPS in a safe and friendly
environment is unmatched anywhere in the world and we're proud of
our reputation and tradition as the oldest polo school in the United
States. The PPS is renowned in the polo community for providing the
highest level of polo instruction by world class instructors who
really care about students' polo skill development. As Dr. Val
Baliad, who now plays in Hawaii and returned this weekend for a
short visit, was heard to remark to students several times this
weekend "You just don't know how good it is and what you have here
at PPS, there is nothing like this anywhere." We really value those
comments and it makes the entire PPS team even more enthusiastic for
the 2003 season.
See you this week in the arena.
