We had a superb Sunday afternoon with the students' tournament
followed by a very fast-paced Potomac Polo Club match. The weather
was agreeable and we fielded two teams the Red Team was composed of
Delrie H., Ron M, and Michelle L; the Black Team was Dr. Wilson C.,
Jim T., and Capt. Kerry T. We awarded some nice prizes to all the
players. To add to the spirit of things I acted as announcer over
the PA system for the event and as far as I could tell, everyone was
pleased with the play-by-play calls. The Black Team won the match 3
to 2. Capt. Kerry was a strong contributor for the Black Team with
two successful foul shots; however, Jim T. was MVP due to his
consistent hard defense against the formidable challenges from Ron
M. Michelle L. did a nice job on aggressive defense. I know
because I saw the bumping up close on the sidelines. Dr. Chang had
a fine day on El Tortuga, moving nicely up and down the field in
heavy traffic and was pleased to notch a well-deserved win. Delrie
may have been on the losing side this time but once the post match
party got started she was all smiles and is ready to return for the
next tournament. El Durazno, ridden by Jim was best playing pony.
The players had a great time and were looking forward to more of
these one-day tournaments this summer. Indeed, we'll have
another
tournament in two weeks as our students play in the first match
(just before the club) for the grand opening part for the renovated
Madison Hotel in Washington, DC. This promised to be a big event
and we'll keep you posted.
We had a very fun class of four on Monday night and have a jam-
packed class of at least eight this evening . You really need to
call early these days because these things fill up fast. Tonight
will be extra special with the return of Dr. Val B. who many of us
know as the catalyst for last year's summer league. Val should
be
around (visitng from his practice in Hawaii) all week. Of course
we're looking forward to some nice weather this weekend so be
sure
to call soon to line up your spot.
