Polo this week, May 12th   Message List

The league consolation match will be held as planned on Sunday the
18th. Start time is expected to be in the AM. Mary will release the
final details of teams and times in the next few days. Tuesday's
evening class that focuses on riding for polo is filled, but we
suggest that you get smart and get out to the ranch soon for an
evening lesson. Every season, the people who take the time to
participate in these classes improve their polo skills measurably and
much faster than if they had only come out on weekends. For the
beginners it's as dramatic as the difference between being able to
canter versus being able to trot. For the more advanced students
changes are seen in their skills at riding off, changing leads, and
turning on the play among others. The classes are like one hour
clinics and speaking of clinics, we wanted to make sure everyone was
aware that we now offer a series of half day clinics, each focused on
a specific set of skills. These are offered upon demand and class
size is limited to provide exceptional attention. It's a great way
to spend an afternoon so please give Mary a call to sign up for the
next half day clinic. Of course, the ultimate way to improve your
polo, besides coming out several times a week is to attend the three
day clinics, which are coming in June.

Most people are amazed at how fast they can learn the to play polo
and yet they don't truly capitalize on this initial momentum. Just
like learning a foreign language or driving a car you need to apply
yourself to be better than simply passable. The objective of the
school is to take students through their complete development as polo
players culminating in a skill set suitable for competitive club-
level play. Rapid, progressive improvement requires a commitment to
apply yourself to learning and that means coming out at least twice a
week, refining your skills in clinics and experiencing real
competition in one-day tournaments and multi-match leagues. Of
course you can elect to come out only once a week have a lot of fun
and take a much longer path towards polo development. But if you are
serious, the satisfaction that comes with large and immediate
personal improvements in polo skill levels will elude you. Think
about it…we do this because it is so much fun to ride at a gallop
down the field while carrying the ball—to hit the ball long and make
a critical pass to your teammate—to steal the play from the other
team—to successfully organize and execute plays with your friends an
operate as a real team—to score the winning goal—to make an
impressive and decisive defensive play—to feel at one with your horse
and really understand what your mount feels and thinks on the playing
field—to truly play polo. To get to this level, you simply need to
play more than occasionally and you must make a conscious decision to
learn more about how to play polo because the better you are the more
of the sport you can safely experience and the more fun you'll have.
The Potomac Polo School offers an exceptional opportunity, unmatched
anywhere with two beautiful grass fields, a training arena, an indoor
arena and an oversized outdoor arena and professional instruction by
polo players who have competed at the highest levels and have
provided instruction to hundreds and hundreds of polo players over
the past 20+ years. As a student of the Potomac Polo School you and
be proud to be with the best program available and one that is
recognized throughout the world. Whether you are in DC, Palm Beach,
New Haven, Bridgehampton, Saratoga, Texas, Arizona, California,
Chicago, or abroad in Pakistan, Argentina, Australia, Chile, France,
England, Canada, Ireland, and anywhere else polo is professionally
played, you can be sure that those in the know will respect you and
your polo knowing that you train with Mary and Charlie Muldoon at the
Potomac Polo School.

We'll see you in the arena!
