RE: [postiebikes] Ignition glitch

I would say that sounds right. With the key on there is no connection from black/white wire to ground (green). With the key off it can start cause it musn't be grounded the running of the engine might be causing to ground via the vibration maybe. Does sound like a broken/bad wire (either black/white or green) or dodgy switch.

Thanks guys
I just checked the wiring and there were no breaks, everything was connected fine with no corrosion.
According to your advice it may be the switch... Not sure how I can test the switch internally. I havent a spare to swap with me here in Thailand.

Just to recheck.
If it is the switch would this explain that without the ignition on and without the key in the engine starts for 2-3seconds but then stalls? It cant be ridden in its present state without the key as it dies consistently.

With the key turned it is normally rideble though..

Thanks.

Note: I've been reading this group for about 2 months, and here is my 1st post (I think):

The ignition switch has 2 "SPST" switches inside it.
One is for the main electrical system of the bike, and it uses the red & black wires.
The other is a kill switch, and uses a black + white stripe wire & a green wire.
Your problem sounds like either the switch is failing, or one (or both) of the wires has come loose or developed a break.

It also could be where the other ends of the wires go to, that could be the problem.
They basically go in parallel to the actual kill switch (OFF-RUN-OFF) .
Not a major problem, but you should check it out, so that the bike isn't so easy to ride, with no key.
Although, anyone who knows this bike can easily undo the 3 or 4 bolts/screws that hold the neck plastic in place, and hot wire it with 2 wires.
Unless you've used very rare security screws, or hidden the wiring, like inside the tubular neck.

Good luck.
