Just in case anyone is interested, I posted a copy of my earlier email
on the Seacoast Ultimate BBS. Click the following link to read,
comment, etc. It seemed most appropriate to go under "Community
Babble", but perhaps the powers that be (George? Mike?) who moderate
the site can set up a new forum for nonprofit setup discussion stuff?
http://thehauntedmansion.org/bbsnh/viewtopic.php?t=78
Cheers! -Brendan
To the Seacoast Ultimate Community:
Back in November 2004 the topic came up again about incorporating a
nonprofit for Seacoast Ultimate, so Tom Devries and I have volunteered
to head up the effort and get the ball rolling.
There is a lot of initial setup work to do. Justin Richardson has
already taken a crack at drafting articles of incorporation and bylaws,
and Tom and I have taken on the tasks of getting organized and handling
the technical and logistical issues. But ultimately (pardon the pun)
the goal is to serve the Seacoast Ultimate community, which means we
need other people to get involved. Tom and I are willing to put in time
and effort to get things started, but we dont want to run the whole
show ourselves!
We would like to hold a series of meetings to give everyone an
opportunity to participate in the process. The first meeting to discuss
incorporating as a nonprofit will be Wednesday February 23, probably
around 7:00pm, at my house in Portsmouth (57 Mount Vernon St, right
behind City Hall). We have tentatively set the dates for two more
meetings, on Monday March 7 at Toms place and Wednesday March 23,
location TBD. We wanted to set up several meetings so that everyone
has ample opportunity to participate in these initial discussions, even
if you cant make the first meeting.
Heres a brief outline of the kinds of things we want to address in the
first meeting:
Why become a nonprofit?
How will it work?
Getting started: Technical issues
o Developing a Mission Statement
o Articles of Incorporation, Bylaws & Operational Requirements
o Board of Directors
What are the next steps?
In the next week or so I will distribute (or make available for
download) examples of bylaws and articles of incorporation. To view a
good example of where we would eventually like to be, Valley of the Sun
Ultimate in Arizona (www.vots.org) has been up and running as a
nonprofit since 1993, and their bylaws are posted on their website.
You can also check out the draft bylaws and articles of incorporation
that Justin wrote up in November, posted on the Seacoast Ultimate BBS:
Bylaws: http://thehauntedmansion.org/bbsnh/viewtopic.php?t=73
Articles of Incorporation:
http://thehauntedmansion.org/bbsnh/viewtopic.php?t=67
I will also send another announcement as a reminder, with meeting time
and directions for the first nonprofit startup meeting scheduled for
February 23. In the mean time, if you have any questions please feel
free to contact me or Tom.
Thanks, and we look forward to your input!

This applies to us as well. So if you plan to play at LFD, Summer League or any other UPA tournament this year go to the UPA site http://www2.upa.org/membership and sign up and fill out a waiver and mail it in or bring it to the tourney.
I also have heard rumors that we as locals with enough players for two teams should do a "hat draw" format for forming the two teams. I for one think this is a good idea.
So as you all know, you have a spot in this years Live Freeze or Die tournament.
Please remember that your players must be UPA members and have a current waiver on file. Last years membership and waiver expired on Dec. 31, 2004 so you all must renew prior to or at LFD. The less checks I personally have to deal with the better, so try to get your players to sign up before the event.
Below are the links to the waiver page and the roster. Save yourself some time and download them. Captains, fill out the roster and send the waiver link to your teammates have them print it and bring it along so you can hand it all to me at the captains meeting on Saturday morning. I am trusting in you to have them 100% correct so I can refund you your $25.
I will have extra waivers on hand Saturday if needed.
Childboirth and staying up late has caused me to
lose about 5 pounds, mostly in the man-boob region.
As a result, I am down to 202 lbs and ready for the A
squad.
Unless anyone else has been collecting various miscellaneous kinds of things from previous tournaments. If so, let me know. Or, for you bargain hunters who shop at Sam's Club or B.J's: if you happened to buy 10,000 trash bags to get the disount price and now realize that the roll doesn't fit in your drawer, we'd be happy to use them for the tournament.

I got a big box from the past few years full of cups, spoons, bowls, coffee stirs, paper towels, some tea and some other stuff. We don't need to pick any of this up. We may want to get a big tin of hot chocolate mix.
Remember we always seem to have a bunch of coffee left over, so maybee less coffee, more hot water for hot choc and tea.
Also as a general update:
1.Portsmouth hat team #1 (insert a creative name here)
2.Portsmouth hat team #2 (insert a creative name here as well)
3.UNH- Aunt Flow (red and ready to shread)
4.UNH- Flow B (not the vacuum hair cutting attachment)
5.Lemony Fresh (last years winners from the Cape)
6.Snowblind (powerhouse team from Portland and other N.E. states)
7.URI (youngsters from the tiny N.E. state)
8.Flux Capacitor (another Cape Cod team looking to upset Lemony)
9.CHUM (a second Portland team, but dont tell them that)
Thanks Jeff.

I just want to get some sort of idea on who will be playing at LFD. I assume due to our local group size that we will be running with two teams. Im not looking to be the person to split the community into two, we just need to see how many players we have. I am holding two spots for us currently, if not that will allow someone else to attend.

Hi Pat. I just spent a lovely night with your lovely wife eating your
most amazing soup. Thank you! Though pop corn would have been pretty
good, I don't think it would have been quite as good as that soup.
Please know my thoughts are with you and your family.
I look forward to seeing you when you get back, and especially to be
playing frisbee with you again.
I hope you're enjoying that Texas sun.
much love,

Well, always being one who has tried to increase the flow of juices, I present an olde New England cookie recipe:
mmmm.... cookies!
I will make cookies. Wow, my childhood Easy Bake Oven just popped into my head.
Did you ever have one of those? In fact just last night I made a cake with....

Does anybody have a request for cookie flavors? Chocolate chip, molasses, ginger

hello frisbee players
we need cookies. Right now, Helga is the only one baking cookies.
Cookie making has many benefits and a long illustrious history. While I am
sure Dennis or Justin could provide a detailed history of cookie making in
New England, I, like most of us, am of course a bit more aquainted with the
more immediate delights of cookie making: cookie eating. Remember, those
of you who choose to take on this vital task will have many, many warm fresh
cookies to sample prior to LFD.
Let me know if you're interested.
