it's good to see people picking up the slack and checking out fields!! way to
go!!
jeff (and everyone) please do not wait for approval from those on this list
about
whether theay are willing to drive (etc) before checking out the use of the any
fields.
we need fields to run a summer league. if it means a drive, it means a drive. if
the fields are in various locations then "your game" each week will likely
revolve to different locations. no one would be stuck driving to the same place
all the time unless we get enough fileds in one place.
even if that happens people will travel! those that don't want to wont play.
don't
forget this is not just about "us" it's about bringing/inviting others in the
community to play ultimate. these non-ultimate players - people we don't know
yet - could and will likely live in many different places throughout the
seacoast!! beside being left out of the fun will override any desire of not
wanting to drive.
look at the indoor scene people aren't staying away and not playing because
it's a drive up the road 20 minutes out of ports, 1/2 hour from dover, (1-1/2 to
2hrs out of nashua!!) build it (the league) and they will come.
if checking on using fields becomes an issue of consesus or confirmation as to
who will and who will not drive then it's likely the league will never get off
the
ground!
if various fields have been recruited and made available then it (the league)
stands a better chance to become a reality! if there are options for where the
league will play all we'll have to do is schedule the games at the various
fields
that have been "reserved", and put out the recruiting flyers etc!!
field space is the 1st step and a major one. so everyone check out the
availablity.
way to go brian and doug!! jeff please don't hold back, go for it. however if
you
feel uncomfortable for any reasons (eg: politics within the school and your
position as a teacher vs representing seacost ultimate) then don't do it. no
problem. but you'll likley be hecked for your political insecurities all summer,
next fall, the following winter, etc etc.. ad naseum ;-) seriously just don't do
it...... wimp ;-)
build it (the league) and they will come. fields are first, everything else will
fall
into place.
NOTE: summer league in portland runs 8-10 weeks. usually june july with the
"end o' the year tourney" occuring the last saturday of july or 1st saturday in
august. this helps in recruiting fields space because we do not conflict with
fall
hs sports teams which usually start to practice in august. we could model the
seacoast summer league in a similar fashion.
also:
usually on a couple of days (eg: on a a wed and a thurs) two weeks or
thereabout before memorial day weekend there are some informal games
where all new recruits are invited to come out and play and be taught the
game. this also allows the league captains a chance to rate the players.
the portland draft has "a" "b" and "c" ratings. all "c's" are drafted then "b's"
etc
in order to help promote/create parity.
the psl web site reghistration page has some self rating stuff and previous
experience info gathered prior to seeing everyone at these pre-league games.
anyway keep the momentum going everyone. i'll play as my bad back allows
but will support the league in anyway i can.
