http://www.oregonlive.com/blazers/ has the story about Weed being
arrested for driving without insurance and a suspended license. We
are about to hear a lot of talk and see firsthand how useless the new
pledge is.
IIRC, there were three goals: (1) Improve the character. (2)
Continune as a contender/playoff team. (3) Save Paul Allen's money.
It now seems obvious that the real goal is number three. If number
two comes with it, good. Number one was only there for PR purposes,
along with the worthless points of the pledge.
My thought is that it would be fine for Paul Allen to save his money
if that was all that was being spent. But he has spent the reputation
of an entire city. He doesn't have enough money to pay that back. But
now, all he cares about is his own losses.
Actually, it has been that way from day one. Right at the start he
invited the players over to his house to be buddy-buddy with the
stars. In doing so, he undercut the coach's authority, and the coach
and season went down the drain. From there on, it was a tough team to
control. Later he was willing to spend his money and our reputation.
Now he only wants to spend our reputation.
It's too bad we can't fire the owner.
