Unless I'm mistaken, if you have a Network Card (very handy for cyclists doing
weekend rides) you can get a 6 zone pass for a bit less than the price of the
1-4 pass - and you might possibly be able to make use of the extra zones.
Of course, knowing the horrors of ever-changing UK train fare/discount
policies, I could be mistaken.
