A cut & out and keep instant guide to the rest of 2005 for those who never
check the website (shame on you!)

Note our quarterly meeting on Dec 13th is combined with a ride. If you can't
make the ride, try and come to the meeting anyway.

Cheers

Sunday 6th November

FANNY'S FARM: A legendary cyclists destination! First port of call will be a
tea stop at Croydon Airport, scene of Amy Johnson's triumphant flight to
Australia and the birthplace of modern civil aviation. Before long we'll be
in the open countryside of Woodmansterne and Chipstead. Fanny's Farm is at
Merstham. The return will use part of the route of the London to Brighton
charity ride but in reverse with a tea stop at Oaks Park. Wandle Trail from
Carshalton to Mitcham. 27 miles. Led by John 07711 556908 or email
john@...

What will it be like? Some hills (one steep one) but at an easy pace. A bit
along bumpy traffic-free tracks. Some barriers that bikes will need lifting
over.

Where? Depart at 09:45 from outside Pollards Hill Library on South Lodge
Avenue. Back by 17:00

Sunday 13th November

NONSUCH PARK: Across Mitcham Common and down the Wandle Trail to Carshalton,
the ride will then climb up to Oaks Park using the future Sustrans route for
a stop at the Oaks Cafe. The bumpy Freedown Lane bridleway takes us past
Highdown Prison to the Banstead Downs where quiet roads will lead us into
Nonsuch Park. Pub-free lunch in the park or slight detour to Ewell village -
decide on the day. Afterwards, London Cycle Network roads will take us down
to St Helier hospital and down Middleton Rd to Mitcham Jct for the return.
18 miles. Led by Suzanne 07963 704287 or email
suzanne@...

What will it be like? A bit hilly with one long slow climb but at an easy
pace. A bit along bumpy and possibly muddy bridleways.

Where? Depart at 09:45 from outside Pollards Hill Library on South Lodge
Avenue. Back by 17:00

===

Sunday 20th November

MITCHAM LOOP: Experience our classic tour of the scenic countryside on
Mitcham's doorstep using quiet roads and traffic-free paths. Taking in
Mitcham Common, Mitcham Garden Village, BedZed, Carshalton, the Wandle
Trail, Morden Hall Park, Merton Abbey Mills and the Myrna Close old railway
path. Led by Suzanne 07963 704287 or email
suzanne@...

What will it be like? Very easy, suitable for all abilities including
supervised children. Lots of traffic-free sections.

Where? Depart at 13:00 from outside Pollards Hill Library on South Lodge
Avenue. Back by 17:00

===

Sunday 27th November

EPSOM PARKS: Join the CTC for a slow meander around flattish parks and cycle
paths. Stops for elevenses, lunch and afternoon tea. Make your own way to
Mitcham Junction to catch the 09:54 to Epsom where the leader will meet you.
CTC rides cost 30p. Led by Lynda 020 8644 2013 or email
lyndabarrow@...

What will it be like? Nice and slow.

Where? Catch the 09:54 from Mitcham Junction to Epsom

Sunday 4th December

CROYDON'S COUNTRYSIDE: Our route will use parts of the Vanguard Way, a new
long distance path devised by the ramblers which uses roads and bridleways
to get to the sea at Newhaven. We will stop for elevenses at the Pond Tea
Rooms before heading off-road. The bridleways can be muddy in winter so
don't wear your Sunday best! Knobbly tyres will handle this better than road
tyres. Lunch will be at the Harrow Inn at Farleigh. The return will take us
along National Cycle Network route 21 (the Waterlink Way) through Whyteleafe
and across Riddlesdown Common to South Croydon where we will head over to
Beddington Park for afternoon tea and then along the new cycle path to
Mitcham Common. 26 miles. Led by Mark 07711 688189 or email
mark@...

What will it be like? Lots of bridleways. Very likely to be muddy. No road
bikes on this one. Some hills but no mountains. Reasonable fitness required

Where? Depart at 09:30 from outside Pollards Hill Library on South Lodge
Avenue. Back by 17:00

===

Sunday 11th December

WHITE CROSS AT RICHMOND: Join dozens of cyclists from the LCC Borough groups
for a Christmas lunch on the Richmond Riverside. Groups will converge at
midday on the White Cross pub from all over the West of London. We'll ride
through Morden Hall to pick up the Wandle Trail and then make our way over
to the Thames Path, possibly via Putney Heath. After lunch we will take a
direct route home through Richmond Park and Wimbledon Common. It's a mostly
traffic-free route. 27 miles. Led by Mark 07711 688189 or email
mark@...

What will it be like? Lots of off-road traffic-free bits. Steep climb on
Wimbledon Common but fairly flat otherwise.

Where? Depart at 09:30 from outside Pollards Hill Library on South Lodge
Avenue. Back by 16:00

===

Tuesday 13 December

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS & PHC QUARTERLY MEETING: Visit the famous Christmas Lights
on Lower Morden Road where the residents attempt to drain the national grid
whilst raising money for charity. We'll make a fairly direct beeline using
the quietest roads possible. The ride will be suitable for supervised kids
if they are confident on the road and have working lights. Afterwards, we
will decamp to a pub (probably the Harvester on Epsom Rd) for our quarterly
meeting. We will outline our achievements and talk about what we want to do
next year. 10 miles. Led by Mark 07711 688189 or email
mark@...

What will it be like? Dark! You must have working lights. Bring a lock for
outside the pub. Hi Viz clothing recommended for any rides in the dark.

Where? Depart at 18:00 from outside Pollards Hill Library on South Lodge
Avenue. Back by 22:30

===

Sunday 25th December

2512: Barry Mason's legendary Christmas Day amble. Last year nearly 100
cyclists snaked up the Thames from Greenwich to Putney and then off to a
Lebanese restaurant for lunch. Central London is deserted on Christmas Day
so it is ideal for cycling. Do as much or as little as you like. Stick some
tinsel on your bike! Bring some Christmas cake! Read about last year's here.
I'll lead an early feeder ride up to the start at Greenwich. Join me or make
your own way to the south end of London Bridge for 11am. Expect to do 35
miles. Make your own way home as I'm diving out around midday. Feeder ride
led by Mark 07711 688189 or email mark@...

What will it be like? Quiet! Lots of fellow cyclists. Very sociable.

Where? Depart at 08:25 from outside Pollards Hill Library on South Lodge
Avenue.
