What's On> 28 September - The Beauty of the Darenth Valley Meet at
Priory Park, Orpington, by the museum at 10.30 AM
or
At Orpington Station, 11am, bus stand side
Tubbenden Lane
Cycle path beside A21 (we do NOT ride on any part of the A21)
Up through quiet roads to the top of Poll Hill.
Down Old Poll Hill (this is a "closed to traffic" lane, not the main
road)
On through the quiet lanes to Shoreham
Then on to Lullingstone Park Cafe for a break
We can then either walk for about 1/4 mile through the river valley
right beside the river Darenth or ride in the adjacent field on a
good track.
Then on through the back lanes to Eynesford where we can stop for a
pint or a paddle in the river or if we're feeling really mad we can
ride through the ford!!
Next bit is "horrible" ... no not really, but it is up hill taking us
up to a small bridge over the M25. Then on to Crockenhill and back to
Orpington.
Total mileage is about 19-20.
We will have all day to do this ride, so we will NEVER leave anybody
behind. We WILL mend punctures on the way (just remember to bring a
couple of spare tubes if you can).
The ride will be led by a Nationally Accredited Cycle instructor and
mechanic and he win be ably assisted by at least one other
proficient, experienced cyclist so we can almost guarantee that you
will have a smooth ride and all will go well.
Don't forget to bring:
Spare tubes
Water to drink
Waterproof clothing
Lock
Money if you want to buy food (packed lunch is good too)
