Something for the weekend... (+ new start time for Sunday)   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #44 of 757 |
I'd like to remind everyone that we have something for both Saturday and
Sunday this coming weekend. Note Sunday's ride now leaves at 09:30.

===

First up is Get Cycling Mitcham!, a day of cycling activity. Between 10am
and 2pm there will be a Dr Bike on Fair Green in Mitcham town centre so
bring your bike down and get it looked over and adjusted by a mechanic for
free.

Then at 2pm, there will be a 7 mile guided cycle ride leaving from Fair
Green and taking in plenty of traffic-free scenic routes. The pace will be
slow so it is ideal for supervised children.

The ride will end at the Mill House pub on Mitcham Common where the
Commonside Trust have arranged a free cyclists lunch for everyone who has
participated in the ride.

===

Then, on Sunday, we have a great all-day ride - the 27 mile Epsom Explorer.
I'm changing the start time to 9:30 from the advertised 10:30 so that we can
have a more leisurely day. It's a steady climb to Banstead (although we will
stop at the Oaks Park cafe for a breather) but the views are well worth it.
However, nothing tops the view when you cycle past the shops at Tattenham
Corner and see the huge expanse of the Epsom Downs and the majestic
grandstand. We'll stop for lunch here (choice of Beefeater pub or the Downs
Lunchbox greasy spoon type wooden hut) and then ride to Epsom Common, Horton
Country Park, along the Hogsmill for a bit and then a tea stop at Nonsuch
park. Main roads (with shared-use paths) back after that. Plenty of
traffic-free parts, lots of brilliant scenery to admire and all at a
pleasant social pace. If anyone only fancies a 13 mile half day, why not get
the train back from Tattenham Corner?

As always, more details are on the website (see below) and if you're
interested in our rides, please join our Yahoo Group because we don't cc the
local LCC groups on all our mails.

Cheers

Mark
