Saturday 11th February at Commonside, South Lodge Ave, Mitcham:
LOVE YR BIKE
A brand new, ambitious, all-day, free social event for London cyclists.
===
Pollards Hill Cyclists and the Commonside Trust have put together a whole
day of cycling-related activity that will entertain and educate both adults
and kids. The easiest way to get the full picture is to visit the website
at:
<http://www.love-yr-bike.co.uk>
Here are the highlights:
* Lots of discussions and hands-on workshops with topics ranging from taking
your wheel off and fixing a puncture to using a map and finding the best
route for your London cycle journey to talks about bike-fitting and the
merits of cycle clothing.
* Jenny Jones, London Assembly Member and Mayor's Road Safety Ambassador
will be giving a talk and answering your questions
* Yoga for Cycling - come and give it a go. There's a Stretching for Cycling
class too
* Cycle Training. In a playground outside, so ideal for kids but adults can
join in too.
* Competitions and Quizzes for kids and adults. Win a set of amazing Hokey
Spokes <http://www.hokeyspokes.com>
* Customise your bike with our free reflective stickers. There are free
spoke reflectors for kids and a demonstration of how to make tassels for
girl's handlebars
* A free healthy lunch paid for by Merton Council and tea, coffee, cakes and
snacks available all day
* Cycle Jumble. We need your unwanted cycle accessories. Drop me a line if
you want us to sell your stuff. Already we have some reasonable bits for the
stall.
Tons more! More being added. And it's all free. Doors open at 10am and it
ends at 4pm with a celebration cycle ride around Mitcham's quiet lanes and
traffic-free paths.
There are lots of feeder rides coming down. Croydon, Southwark, Greenwich,
Lewisham and Wandsworth are all confirmed and Lambeth and Kingston are
hoping to organise ones. There'll be space to put bikes in the secure
courtyard.
For those with cars, there is street parking or the small free car park
outside. Public transport doesn't serve the area well but the 152, 255 and
60 bus stop outside. Norbury and Streatham Common stations are just over a
mile away as is Beddington Lane tramstop (no bikes allowed though).
And if the thought of all that activity is making you feel weary, why not
flop down in the chill-out area and watch our selection of cycling films.
Something for everyone - stick it in yr diary!!
