Next week trail construction will resume to complete the remaining 2.5 miles of the Halo Trail project. Depending on the construction progress and weather, we may post some additional weekend volunteer trail days to help insure its completion.
We are also currently working on trail heads maps for the USFS and Washoe County Parks Department. These maps will show all the designated USFS trails an travel routes on Peavine. They will be installed on eight trail head boards from the Las Brisas to the Horizon Hills trail heads by mid December.
And at any time now, the USFS will also be installing a fence at the Hoge Road Trail Head area to designate and deter motorized incursions into the Keystone Canyon Recreation Area. This is a 900 acre non-motorized area which extends south from Hoge Road to Rancho San Rafael Park, and includes Keystone Canyon and west to the the top the ridge where the Halo trail traverses.
Lastly, plan to join us for a Halo Ride on November 21. We will ride the trail and check on its construction progress. It is also our designated annual meeting required by our non-profit bylaws, and a chance to invite and meet you who are on our email and member list.
So stay tuned for construction updates, possible volunteer days, and please come and join us on any of the dates below.

Galenafest is a new event to benefit Galena Creek Regional Park. Centered around a challenging climb (and new mountain bike test piece) to the top of Relay Peak. With great food, drink, music and kids events, all proceeds to help reestablish the outdoor outreach programs that were recently cut from Washoe County's parks budget.
View the Fall 2009 Issue of the Galena Times for the events background and aspirations. A great example of the community individuals stepping up to maintain the quality of life programs and opportunities many of us have enjoyed in the past. Hope you will consider participating, it promises to be a quality event for a super cause. Encourage your friends to sign up and hope to see you there!

I hope you can help with the Bikeway's first ever "Weed-n-Ride" event! This Sunday, September 13, will be a combination of work for the Bikeway and play:
--morning of weeding (mostly Russian thistle) along the trail on the Reservation for about 2 hours,
--followed by lunch (provided by the Bikeway), --then a bike ride in the afternoon for about 2 hours.
If you can help it would be terrific! Bring water, gloves, long sleeves and pants for the work part.
Bring your bike and different clothes for the riding part.
Bill von Phul is coordinating this effort, and he has most of the tools needed. If you can help, please call Bill at 786-5568 or email him at bvonphul@....
Thanks everyone!

As much as I like Alternate 1 for mountain
biking, the Proposed Action is so much better for hikers and horse riders than
Alternate 1 is. Do we want to get into a mountain bike vs hiker, horse
confrontation over this? I say give hikers and horse riders the Proposed
Action and see if we can work with the USFS to add more MTB trails in the
future hopefully with the approval of the hikers and horse people.

PM To: Poedunk Subject: usfs seeks rim to reno
comments
The USFS has posted its
notice for proposed action on the Rim to Reno trail. It has come up with
an alternative that would provide additional trails for mountain biking in
the Belli and Ballardini Ranch areas. This proposal is available for
review (under Carson Ranger District) at:
After an initial review, the Poedunk board is very encouraged by the
proposed "Alternative 1" that adds approximately 14 miles of new
trails that would allow mountain bike use. We tend to endorse this
proposal, but would welcome and seek additional comments from you
first. And of course you can also send in your personal comments as well
to the USFS.
Please take a moment to look at the USFS proposed action and RGJ
article and reply to this email or to the USFS with your comments,
suggestions and/or endorsement of one of the alternatives.

(turn left on Hoge Rd from Old North Virginia St - just past the Bonanza Casino, go up hill, turns to dirt, follow to the radio tower area/top of Keystone Canyon).
the Halo trail is looking really good despite the recent storms. The rains did cut short the trail work on the snow terraces so we'll be out this Wednesday evening to finish the trail tread in that area. This section ties into an existing section of trail, so if you want to find out how to connect to the Halo trail from the north, come out and you'll see how (4 miles of single track back to the Kings Row area).

For those regulars on Peavine you may soon see course markings appear for it. Please be respectful and leave as is. Also the course markings "will be diligently removed within a day or two after race completion; basically, please don't remove markings so those poor runners don't get lost!"
Please pass this info on to other Peavine users that you may know.

The Poedunks invite you to help finish finish the Halo Trail.
The NCC crew has built almost 3 miles of new singletrack on Peavine! Next week the first 2 Phases of the Halo should be complete and connected to existing roads and trails.
Most of the the hard work is complete and alot of TLC now will prevent future maintenance and make the trail more fun to ride. Expect a moderate hike and light duty finish work on the tread built by the NCC
Please bring your Bike for an after work ride and tour of the new trail.
It is recommended that you bring plenty of water and wear sturdy shoes, pants and long sleeves. We will provide the tools and training.
You are receiving this courtesy email at the account poedunk@yahoogroups.com because you are an attendee of this event.

With daylight savings time and spring just around the corner, we're looking to resume the trail work on Peavine real soon.
The Nevada Conservation Corps is returning the beginning of April to work on the next 3 miles of the Halo Trail. We will be scheduling a weekend work day around that time to connect the first mile of the Halo Trail to the existing roads and to make for an interim 2.5 mile loop from the Kings Row Access.
Also this spring we plan to assist the USFS and Washoe County Parks to sign and designate the Keystone Canyon Recreation Area, a Non-Motorized zone around Keystone Canyon and RSF Park. Our annual clean up outing will be on May 10, and we really encourage anyone who wants to further their trail building and design skills to attend the Regional Trails Training at Galena Park on May 16-18. We'll post more days and events as finalized, but here's how the calender is shaping up.
Upcoming Peavine and trail events:
March 8 daylight savings
March N-Trail trail work
April NCC resumes on Halo April Halo Trail Work Day to complete first loop
May 10 KTMB - Peavine Clean Up
May 16-18 Regional Trails Training - Tahoe Rim Trail Association
Apr/May Keystone Rec Area Boundary work with USFS & Washoe County
May Halo Weekend Work as necessary to complete next section June 6 National Trails Day
We also will be soliciting for donations in the near future to help with our operating expenses and to acquire some funds for tools, trail day food, beverages, and other trail amenities. We really have appreciated every ones volunteer help last year, we hope you may help with a small donation this year to help our cause for more and better Peavine trails.
Check the web/blog out for the latest schedule and updates. We look forward to seeing you out on the trail again this spring.
