Washoe County Open Space Plan Public Input Workshop
Thursday, January 24, 2008
5:30 - 7:00 p.m.
Wilbur D. May Museum
Rancho San Rafael Regional Park
1595 N. Sierra Street, Reno
The final draft plan and maps are available to see at: http://www.washoecounty.us/comdev/publications_maps_products/open_space/update.htm
The
document looks very good in terms of the wishes to protect and preserve open
space, but seems to be vague in regards to natural surface and recreational trails
(planning and construction standards) and where the public would like to see
them (more detailed maps, specific area trail plans).
If you
have a chance to go to the meeting, or want to comment via the survey on the
above link, you might suggest that there is strong desire for much more natural
surface trails. These are much less expensive to build (compared to
asphalt and concrete) and if built properly require minimal maintenance and will
not ever require replacement costs.
