Do any of you get the Parelli e-news? Boy, I am amazed at just how
much "stuff" they are cranking out to make money. It was really a fan
at one point, but I'm really disillusioned with them these days and
wonder if the essence of the horse is getting lost in all this
marketing? They seem to do very little with actual riding--it's all
about ground work and promoting all those expensive dvd's, now they
have "charts", "Parelli puzzles", etc. Just a little too much "stuff"
for me............................I wonder what our horses would think
if they knew about all this???????
oops, didn't mean that to be a post..... sorry guys.... the devil woman comment was in reference to the eye "funk" i have going on... been spending more time with the opthamologist than my husband!!! scratches in both eyes, very bloodshot, hence the devil woman look...... ok, now i have embarassed myself......

I'm NOT a racing fan, but I have been tracking a horse that I helped
raise, and unfortunately, he's in racing. Anyway, I see that they give
the horses Lasix, which is a diuretic. Does anyone know WHY they do
this? Seems so bizarre to me.
I came across some cute horse sayings that I had written down from
going to various clinics, so I thought I'd share a few.
1.We try to get our horses to go a certain way. How presumptuous to
tell this magnificent animal how to move.
2. Learn to wait for things to happen. You want your horse as a
willing partner, not a slave.
3. The only thing you can start from the top is a fence post.
4. Work toward having your horse feel so safe he'd let you ride him
up a telephone pole or down a badger hole.
5. Get to the spirit of your horse.
6. Horses are totally honest.
7. When something isn't working, stop your thinking and make a fresh
start.
8. Wait for a response, but know how long to wait.
9. When you have a problem, don't focus on it as a big problem.
Ignore it, but keep it in the back of your mind and soon it will
divide into little manageable problems.
10. Ride the horse that you have TODAY!
Does anyone know the website for cytek, or is it cytec? I have tried every combination I can think of and I get a chemical company and once I found something in the UK but I can't get back to the site that lists the farriers and talks about the shoes. Please help. Thanks.

There is a barn for lease on the property next to where I board my
horse. The guy said he'd lease it for a "reasonable" price, not sure
exactly how much. It's a very simple barn with I think about 10 acres
of pasture, that is divided into 2 pastures and a smaller turn out
yard. Has a small pond. It has no arena or anything fancy at all. He
wants to get out of horses and said he'd lease it to someone so they
could "make a few bucks" as he put it, but they would need to keep up
the place, which I think he means keep the pastures cut. It's located
in Plum Boro, about a mile from the boro building, has a New Kensington
mailing address, so it's closer to New Ken, it's in Allegheny county.
If you are interested let me know and I'll provide his phone number.
There are a few trails in the area for trail riding. Can't remember now
exactly how many stalls there are, I think about 6 or 7.
There
is a man named Jamie Coulter, I believe that’s his last name. He does
Cytek work. He came to my barn a couple time for a few training horses that
were in. He seemed very knowledgeable and was very patient with the horses. My
neighbor uses him. I will try to get his number for you. Give me a day or so.

Has anyone ever had a horse who couldn't lift a foot to be trimmed?
What did you do?
I'm in need of a farrier, if anyone knows someone who doesn't have a
bad attitude and would be willing to work with a horse with special

I'm not sure of all the rules with this group. Is it permitted to post a request to trade one horse for another?
I want to let you know that we are pleased to announce that after 3 years of effort, our family has our Facility, "Lucky Top Ranch" ready to go. We at KaneHorsemanship can offer Horse Training at a variety of levels as well as Horsemanship-Riding Lessons. We are conveniently located less than a mile south of Rt. 70 off the Kammerer Exit. That is just west of Bentleyville, PA and about 10 miles East of Washington, PA. We have 3 very nice stalls ready for horses to come in for training. We have a 60 ft. round pen, Training Paddock and Fenced Riding Arena. Please visit our Web Site at www.kanehorsemanship.com to see what we can offer.
If you have any questions please email or give us a call at 724-239-4511.
Please.....Don't give up! I found and am attempting to
buy a 'Nurse Baby'. This seems to be another ploy to
'rescue' horses....

Thank you for the articles. When I orignally posted, someone involved in rodeo told me the straps didn't cause pain, but that made no sense to me because that was obviously the purpose of them, to inflict pain on the animal so it would buck. That calf roping and calf wrestling is absoultely barbic, I can't even watch it. I've seen how the animals necks are twisted, all for the sake of "entertainment." The competitions where 2 riders rope a small calf and jerk the poor thing to the ground makes no sense to me. I don't know how anyone can believe there is any "skill" in this, it's just pure abuse.
Nickie Corey <nickie_corey@...> wrote:
For everyone's information, here are two articles I found about how animals in rodeos are treated.
This one is from PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).
I was channel surfing and saw some bull riders. Also noticed this with bronc riders before. This will sound like a totally stupid question, but I noticed the animals have a rope tied around their testicle area. Is this to cause them pain, which in turn causes them to buck????

I am just getting more info on the post I did earlier on the foals
being sold for skins for coats. There is some evidence that OSU knows
about this, which is quite disturbing. The man whose name they give
people meets people at a truck stop with the nurse mare on a trailer
and a transfer is done. He tells people it's for "their convenience"
He charges $1500 up front to "rent" a mare and $500 more if you want to
keep the mare. If there isn't an immediate need for a mare, the foal
is allowed to stay with her to keep the milk coming, but when there is
a need, the foal gets taken away and sold. There is information that
16 foals recently went thru an auction in New Holland. IF ANYONE OUT
THERE KNOWS ANY HUMANE AGENTS, CAN YOU PLEASE CONTACT THEM TO SEE WHAT
CAN BE DONE ABOUT THIS????
I would assume it would be easy to get the man's name if you call OSU
and say you need a nurse mare. I may do that just to see what they
say, and find out who this man is.
Okay, here is a little more info. This man, whoever he is, has nurse
mares for rent. When questioned as to what happened to the nurse
mares' foals, he tells people they "went to good homes", when in fact,
he is involved in selling them or directly involved in the killing of
them, not sure at this point. When someone calls OSU to ask for a
referral for a nurse mare, they are given this man's name, so I would
pray OSU doesn't know what is going on. My friend is going to get some
names and details and go from there to try to get this stopped.
