First of all I want to thank all who made the Extravaganza a success. It was a great event.
My name is Bob Kane. I live just outside of Bentleyville, (Washington County) with my wife Bonnie and my daughter Heather. We have 5 horses, 2 Appys, 2 Paints and a Quarter.
We are getting real close to being able to open our Training Facility, Lucky Top Ranch. We will offer training and lessons.
Hope to get to know all of you as we get more involved in PNHA.
Over the past few days, some new people have joined the
message group. I thought it would be good if everyone gave a small introduction.
I guess I’ll start.
I’m Kara and I’m a horseaholic. J No really, I am owned by 11 horses, I
raise Quarter Horses, stand 3 stallions; soon to be only 2, raise a baby every
few years. I enjoy learning how to be a better partner with my horses. I
operate a boarding stable outside of Ford City. I coach the IUP Western
Equestrian Team. I have two great kids who are 14 and soon to be 12, and have a
wonderful husband, who puts up with all my horse related activities. I am the
current secretary of the PNHA and am looking forward to helping our
organization build and look forward to the future with our group.
Well enough about me. I wish all the new members a warm
welcome to our online group. I’m looking forward to hearing more about
you.

Thank you Rose. Lori really
captured some nice moments with Juliet. I hope she sends me some more. I have
emailed her back and John and Jody Lyons have seen the pictures as well from
her and they were both very pleased with them. Their office will be in contact
with her to thank her for the pictures.
As far as the crowd, it was definitely
a much larger crowd than in years past. I think overall it was well received.

I will so be looking forward to your kind response per John Lyons and the issue where my attempted awserwers appeared! I do (FYI) know, per searching, that the App Association and their (non) responses, to me, have been slow, or nil, until I called U, per your request. I simply had to call U and, I apologize, if I startled U to get a response....my e mail requests failed, time & again. Not your fault. However, I do thank U for your help and diligence per my call!
Also, we do have a major event, here in PA. It involves John Lyons and some info, folks wanting to know abought Bright Zip. I have had MANY questions about Zip. Your links to inductees into the App Hall of fame stink. I cannot even find Zip. Well, I did get his initial/pedigree info. I received a generic answer while asking about your 'Hall of Fame' inductees. If U are able to send me a direct link to pass on to my clients, that would be super!
Most do not even know Zip has passed!
I do have Zip's 'Lyons 'page. I do have his lineage from U. I do have John's
info. Where is yours per this most awesome Horse ?
I know it's not U, but when we want to read about the inductees, well....there is no link! How about the other Apps?
My orders per ' The Holy Cross' were send and I have received payment in due.
Well, App people could not help! Here's what I have on Zip so far. I also know he was a
Breyer model.

Yes, I was there when John announced that Zip was blind. He had just finished his 1st book. After working a young Mustang off the back of a stock trailer for his 'seminar', he had a ceremonial upon closing. He laid Zip down. John sat in the dirt with him. He told. He cried. He sat with his horse. Zip had no bridle nor saddle during any of this. There were some old sceptics in the stands. No one had a dry eye. Old cowboys with big spurs. He & the Zip were amazing! I think it was in the wee hours of the morning.
At this time, I had been competing, successfully, my blind Edurance
Horse, Ja Jaribe. He was blind. 1st Lightweigt, New York 100 that year. I did not know it at that time. He shut down in Nebraska, but not without leading the pack. He had won honors, and not following my instincts and stupidity at that time, I did not even realize that he could not see. It was trust. I thought it was me. John signed my book, when we shared our 'blindness' faith, that day in Dayton, Ohio.
I do believe that Zip has been inducted into the Appaloosa 'Hall of Fame' for his excellence.
If U do not know John Lyons, well GO!
Thanks, Jill & Ja

Hopefully someone has more details, but I think that Bright Zip passed on 4 or 5 years ago. I
remember reading that his blindness was the result of a reaction to medication he was being treated with, not "moon blindness" that is commonly thought of in apps.
I have an older app that's had intermittent uveitis for years now. She gets along very well with no special change to her environment needed. But her blindness is gradual so I'm sure that plays a big role in her acceptance. On the other hand, Bright Zip's blindness was sudden. With all that he did to say that he was trusting and accepting is putting it lightly!
Sharing your experiences for others who may face a similar situation is a great idea!
Does anyone know if John's horse, Bright Zip, is still alive? I saw him at
Equine Affaire years ago after he went blind, but haven't heard if Zip is still with us or not. How ironic, because my own horse went blind. I am thinking of writing the story of my blind horse to help others who may get into that situation. When it happened for me, it was such an emotional time and I got bad information from "well- meaning" people. Anyway, Zip seemed luck such a special horse, but I know he'd have to be pretty old by now if he's still alive.

Following is an excerpt from Wendy's website outlining her background.
From: http://murdochmethod.com
Background
Wendy Murdoch has ridden since childhood in a variety of disciplines
including Hunters, Dressage, Eventing, and Reining. In 1984 while
working towards her PhD in Equine Biomechanics, Wendy incurred a
severe riding accident. The accident changed the course of her life
from theoretical study to applied biomechanics for both horse and
rider. As a result Wendy has been teaching internationally for over
18 years. Her goal is to make riding more enjoyable and fundamentally
simple by showing her students how to achieve what great riders do
naturally.
Students
Wendy's students range in disciplines from Dressage, Eventing,
Reining, Hunters, Jumpers and pleasure. Wendy works with all levels
of rider ability and age. The principles she teaches, while
fundamental to all riding are refined and specific in order to
benefit not only the average rider, but also riders at the top level
of competition. Wendy's thorough knowledge of anatomy, biomechanics
and teaching gives her a wide range of tools to assist each rider to
achieve their goals.
Certification and Education
Wendy holds a Master's Degree in Equine Reproductive Physiology from
the University of Kentucky (1986). Her background includes intensive
study with Linda Tellington-Jones, Founder of TEAM®; an
apprenticeship in 1992 with Sally Swift, Founder of Centered Riding®;
Dr. Joyce Harman, holistic veterinarian and noted authority on saddle
fitting; Bettina Drummond, the only authorized representative of the
Nuno Oliveira School in North America; Jon Zahourek, creator of
Zoologik® Equiken® Anatomy in Clay, system for learning anatomy; and
Dr. Hilary Clayton, recipient of the McPhail Chair at Michigan State
University to study biomechanics in dressage horses.
Wendy believes that continuing education is essential to achieving
her goals. Therefore in May 2005 she completed the 4-year
Feldenkrais® Method Practitioner Training and is now a certified
Feldenkrais Practitioner. The Feldenkrais Method provides Wendy with
more ways of presenting information to her students. She has
completed the Equiken®, Advanced Equiken®, Maniken® and Comparative
Anatomy courses, with Jon Zahourek, creator of Zoologik® Anatomy in
Clay Systems. In addition Wendy has organized and participated in two
courses with Dr. Hilary Clayton; The Anatomy, Conformation and Gaits
Workshop (2004) and The Dynamic Horse Seminar (2005). Wendy has
traveled to Europe to further her education by attending the Global
Dressage Forum (2004) in Tilburg, The Netherlands and had the
opportunity to work with Arthur Kottas-Heldenberg, Retired First
Chief Rider of the Spanish Riding School, considered the best
Dressage rider in Europe.
In Print
In addition to her teaching, Wendy takes time to write. Her articles
have appeared in numerous magazines including Dressage & CT, Equus,
Practical Horseman, The Trail Less Traveled, USDF Connections and

Any farriers out there or anyone else who has had a horse with
ringbone? I'm trying to decide whether or not to continue with bar
shoes on my horse. He's retired, no longer ridden, and the vet
recently diagnosed him with ringbone, trying to determine if it is
high or low. I thought low, she said she couldn't remember, so I'm
waiting for clarification on that. Anyway, 9 years ago he was
diagnosed with navicular, hence, the bar shoes. But that seemed to
level out and he was sound for years, then this latest lameness
started about a year ago, and the vet did nerve blocks and said it
wasn't navicular , but ringbone.
I noticed last time the farrier was out, my horse didn't hesitate at
all to lift his opposite front foot when his shoes were off, but if
you try to lift the opposite foot when he has shoes on, he doesn't
want to. This leads me to think he's more comfortable without the
shoes. My farrier was very non-committal when I tried to pin him down
to an answer about continueing the shoeing. He has the lameness in
the left front and doesn't like to lift the right front because I
assume it puts pressure on the bad foot, but like I said, with shoes
off, he didn't hesitate.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. I need to decide by next week. I
also have a call out to the vet for her opinion but quite honestly, I
don't think vets know alot about shoeing in the first place.
Sorry this is so long, and I appreciate any answers. Thanks. Rose

I've noticed that RFD-TV has made changes to their schedule. There does seem to be alot of auctions on lately. I haven't watched the past two weeks but Parelli was on Saturday early afternoon.
Has anyone else noticed that RFD has fewer horse
programs on now and it seems to be mostly auctions every day, all day long? I haven't seen Parelli on there for ages and some other shows I used to watch. Really disappointing.

I thought some of the PNHA members would like to see this site
showing photos of the 2008 Road to the Horse Event. There's some
really great pics.
