You should be getting some info and directions from the 4-H office.
Windmill 25 is on FS 203. From the enterance you cross over the
bridge and bear right on the pavement. You go toward the fire tower
and take the left turn onto 203. Do not take 212 to 4-H camp or the
right turn on 203. I will be gone until Sun. I will be glad to camp
with you. I don't have a fancy trailer either. Just a foam mattress
in the goose neck and a camp stove I set up in the back. I will be in
touch. Anita

Thanks for the info, that helps alot! I didn't know the camp ground
was that far seperate from the horses. I will be camping with the
horses. My horse trailer is old, the living quarters has no
electricity or fancy stuff, it's just carpet and a whole lot of room.
So a full campground wouldn't benefit me anyways. I'm putting a blow
up mattress up top the gooseneck, lawnchair and cooler.
So I will need to turn at Windmill 25 when I come in from the
highway? I'm still not quite sure yet if I will be able to come
friday evening or saturday morning. I'm trying for friday night, I
don't really want to get up at 4am saturday. I will know this week
which day I'm coming. Potluck sounds great though! I'm headed up
there by myself, me and my horse Nelly. Amy

There are no bridges or water to cross. The ground is very, very
sandy so horses do not need shoes. Are you camping with the horses?
If so you can shower in at the main campground included in your fee.
Main campground is about 4-5 miles from horses. Horse camp area
primative with portapottys and no people water. Certified hay a must,
but will be provided for a donation. Horse water and pipe panel pens
provided. You can stay at the 4-H camp dorms with showers etc. for
small fee but about 4 or 5 miles from horses. Road to horse area,
windmill 25, is very deep sand in places.

It can be lots of fun camping with the horses. Maybe we can have a
potluck Fri. night?? See you there, Anita

No bridges.  It's a nice, sandy, forested area.  We stop to rest at windmill watering sites.  We always have stayed at the local motels but I know there are showers at the cabins.  But where the horses are it's just a big clearing with a windmill water site that they've set panels up for pens.  Great steak dinner on Sat. night.  See you there.  Dawna

I've never been on this ride or to Halsey. I'm planning on going this
year. Are there any bridges to cross? and are they wide or narrow if
any? I'm trying to decide which horse to bring. Also are there any
showers or coin operated showers at the park? So I can plan for
packing. Thanks for any info, Amy

Hi All!

My Arab Tide and I are going to the 4-H Ride at Halsey. It's really a
lot of fun! I do have room in my gooseneck for horse and rider if
someone wants to ride with me. I usually stay in my trailer. As of
Tuesday, I am a "temporary harvest widow", so Scott will not be able to
go! I would like some company, so let me know.

I have went on this ride for about 6 years and really like it.  Unfortunately, it is the same weekend as the ride at Bernie's in Tekamah.  So with the price of gas and all my friends going to Tekamah, I decided to miss it!  They will probably do this every year now.  Darn it!

Hi All!

My Arab Tide and I are going to the 4-H Ride at Halsey. It's really a

Welcome to the Platte River Riders; Nebraska's Wednesday night riding club!

The Platte River Riders is a group of adult horse trail riders who meet every
Wednesday at a pre-designated trail. The original chapters started in Lincoln &
Omaha and in 2007, Platte River Riders Central & Platte River Riders North
started riding!

This Yahoo group is a way to communicate with other riders, find out about
weather cancellations & provide feedback on the night’s ride (my favorite!) We
ask when posting to this list that courtesy is given to all who post.

When riding with the Platte River Riders, please follow these courtesy
guidelines:

1 ) Use good trail manners. if you don't know, ask.

2) Be a good trail user. Many times we are on shared trails. Be respectful to
other trail users and follow all rules regarding that specific trail. Horse
trails are a privilege, not a right.

3) As a courtesy to other riders, please be sure your horse is up-to-date on
vaccinations. If your horse has been sick, it is suggested you wait 10 days from
last symptoms until joining the group.)

4) If your horse kicks, tie a red ribbon on his tail. If you are riding a green
horse or if you are a green rider, tie a green ribbon on his tail. It will alert
others to potentially dangerous situations. Stallions are allowed and should
sport a yellow ribbon on his tail. However, if an incident should arise between
a stallion and another horse (mare or gelding), the stallion will be asked to
leave the group.

5) This is an adult ride, so we want to have fun. But if you are going to change
the pace of your ride, please go ahead of the group or stay behind the group and
always tell the group of your intentions. Never run up on the group or another
individual rider if you have elected to stay behind.

6) Bring a shovel & clean up any manure left around your trailer before
departing the trail head.

7) If any ride is held in a public place which requires a park permit, you are
responsible for purchasing your own permit. If the ride is across the state
line, you are responsible for making sure your horse has the appropriate health
and Coggin's papers.
8) Do not litter. Pack out what you pack in.

9) No dogs. Sorry, we love them, too, but not all horses are accustomed to dogs
and many state parks do not permit them on horse trails. Its only for a few
hours... they'll understand.

10) There are no dues or memberships. This is just an opportunity to ride
together.

11) The ride should start promptly at 6:30 PM. It is not necessary to wait for
an organizer. Whoever is saddled & ready to ride is considered the group for the
night.

12) If the trails are muddy and riding the trails will cause damage, it is the
policy of the Platte River Riders to NOT ride those trails. Lets save it for a
better day! These are "our trails". If we abuse it, we will lose it!

Yes I am.  I am bringing Donovan and figure if worse comes to worse, I'll toodle around the campsite while you guys ride out. I think, with enough ibuprofen, I should be okay!

Thanks!

PRRC had a great ride year!! We had 22 scheduled rides. 5 were
cancelled. The most riders we had were 19 at Sacramento/Wilcox SWRA.
The other popular places were Harlan Co Lake (14) and the sand roads
between
Norman and Holstein with 12 riders. We tried something new
this year with a midweek campout at Kay Brass place on Jefferies
Island. We didn't camp because of weather but Kay offered up their
cabin! We had great rides in between storms and excellent food
(Thanks Jan for the breakfast). We tried some new trails some were
good turn outs others not. We gained some new riders and friends.
Our last ride was a picnic and ride at Kay Brass place last Sat. We
enjoyed the perfect fall weather and really good potluck. Some of the
PRRC riders came and helped with the corral building at Natick Horse
Camp in Halsey Forest . A BIG thankyou to all who helped organize
these rides and offered up places. A really special thanks to Kay
Brass for all she did. Get out and enjoy this wonderful Indian Summer
weather. I will be in touch about 2009 schedule.
