It's owned by several area libraries - Lincoln, Omaha, LaVista, Grand Island, and Peru State. If your town library doesn't have it, they can borrow it from around the country. It looks good!

On Animal Planet there is a show called Wild horse redemption, about convicts working with BLM mustangs. Looks like it may have been a documentary about a prison in Colorado. Each convict is given one mustang to work with for around 80 days. Some of horses they are putting the first rides on them in 30 days. Pretty amazing the bond these men have with the wild animals that they work with. The trainer that is in charge of the program is pretty awesome too. Some of the mustangs are very nice looking

Along with games, we will be having a silent auction and will be drawing the winner for the snow blower raffle. (Get your ticket!)
It's not just about speed this year! Hi Tammy, Have you sold your saddle pad? I have a saddle (pic attached) that has slightly larger flaps than most English saddles and I'm wondering if your pad would fit. If you haven't sold it, would you let me try it for fit?
I have a question about Trail Time hours. Do they expire? I'm not listed as having any hours, but I think that at one point my few pitiful hours were actually listed somewhere. Maybe in the expo program a couple years ago? I can't remember. I do know that I have not submitted hours yet this year (trust me, it won't cause you much work when I do...) and I only rode a couple times in 2008 and probably didn't sumit those, but I think I did submit my hours from the first year in the program. I do still have the old records if that helps.
Also, once long ago we talked about you having to manually enter all the information when you got it. Did you ever find a solution? I was at a conference last week and found out that forms in Google Docs will automatically dump the submitted information into a spreadsheet. It's great! I'm still new to it, but it's pretty slick.
We are very excited that a friend of the
trails has gifted a gently used snowblower to the
Nebraska Horse Trails Committee to use in
our most recent fundraising efforts. This Troybuilt
Model 42012 is a 10 hp model with 26"
auger. It has chains, a headlight & cab with heated
handles. Retails new for over $1,600!! The
NHTC will be raffling this item off on November 21st.
Email me (tvasa@...) or your NHTC representative
and get your ticket with just a $5 donation!
Funds donated to the NHTC are used for horse
trail improvements in Nebraska!

Tammy, thanks for letting everyone know about Nadine. We got home last night.
Nadine is doing OK, but it will take three months to heal.
When we left the first little hospital the doc. Said they would do all they could.
It, took one and a half hours to get to the trauma hospt in Evansville Ind.
The weather was to bad to fly her.
She had two lacerations to her kidney, damage level four out of five at five they remove the kidney, She also had two lacerations to her spleen, at the hospt they also had to remove 500ccs from one lung and 300ccs on her other lung.
For those that sent cards, thank you. We could feel all the prayers
It is the Rainwood Rd. entrance. The actual directions are at the bottom of the recent flyers but I should have put them bigger or higher up on the flyer. I'm taking notes for next year:)
Directions: Take 72nd St. exit off I-680. Go North to Rainwood Rd. Go west and follow
road all the way to the lake and around to loop at end.

Subject: [platteriverriders] Update on Nadine
Good News! I just spoke to Deryle and Nadine has shown steady improvement. Most of the machines she has been on will be discontinued. She'll have x-rays tomorrow and if things look good, she might get released! If so, they've asked that she not travel for a few days - to stay in the area to make sure things are going well before they begin to come home to Nebraska. Many of you sent me private emails asking what happened. Well, we all know with horse people, it doesn't have to be anything major to get banged up. This ordeal started last Friday. They were at the trailers & mounted. Deryle got off because he wanted to check the cinches. He handed Nadine his reins. Without her realizing it, they had looped under the fender of her saddle and tightened. Deryle horse stepped back and must have bumped Lucky. Lucky stepped back but was on a slope. Nadine wasn't prepared for the step and being off-balance and simply fell. But being that she was on a slope and she fell on the downhill side, it was quite an impact with the ground.
Thinking she was fine, but would rest, she untacked Lucky while Deryle went ahead with the group. About an hour out, he got a call from Nadine to comeback quickly. He said they got back in 18 minutes. She was in a lot of pain and they got her to a local hospital and then she was transferred by ambulance to a trauma center in Evansville, ICU for 2 days with what they call "fractures" in the kidney, 2 lacerations in the spleen, 2 broken ribs and bleeding in the lungs. So she was a hurting cowgirl. Deryle hasn't been alone. Family has joined him and they are bringing their trailer & horses home today or tomorrow. If you would like to send Nadine a card, since they will be leaving Illinois soon, please send it to their home. The address is:
Nadine Morton

Lincoln, NE 68510
Keep up the prayers for Nadine as she continues to recover and we hope to see her in the saddle next spring!

Subject: [platteriverriders] Prayers for our PRR Friends
Some of you may know that Deryle & Nadine Morton went to ride at Shawnee National Forest this past week to ride. Sharron Ankerson called tonight and asked if I would get the word out to our riding friends that Nadine was hurt and is hospitalized in Evansville, Illinois (no word on what hospital). She has a lacerated liver, bruised spleen & perhaps some cracked ribs. Their son from Omaha is going out to bring home their horses and trailer. Deryle will stay with Nadine while she recovers. Sharron asked that we keep both Deryle and Nadine in our prayers. If/when I get hospital information, I'll pass it on.
On another topic, Sharron Ankerson and Dianna Noonan's father, Raymond C. Ruzicka, passed away this week. His funeral is in Cedar Bluffs on Wednesday. If any of you want to send cards to Sharron & Dianna, their addresses are as follows:
Sharron Ankersen 1511 County Road T Colon Ne 68018 and Dianna Noonan 940 County Road 17 Wahoo Ne 68066

Welcome to the Platte River Riders; Nebraska's Wednesday night riding club!
The Platte River Riders is a group of adult horse trail riders who meet every
Wednesday at a pre-designated trail. The original chapters started in Lincoln &
Omaha and in 2007, Platte River Riders Central & Platte River Riders North
started riding!
This Yahoo group is a way to communicate with other riders, find out about
weather cancellations & provide feedback on the night’s ride (my favorite!) We
ask when posting to this list that courtesy is given to all who post.
When riding with the Platte River Riders, please follow these courtesy
guidelines:
1 ) Use good trail manners. if you don't know, ask.
2) Be a good trail user. Many times we are on shared trails. Be respectful to
other trail users and follow all rules regarding that specific trail. Horse
trails are a privilege, not a right.
3) As a courtesy to other riders, please be sure your horse is up-to-date on
vaccinations. If your horse has been sick, it is suggested you wait 10 days from
last symptoms until joining the group.)
4) If your horse kicks, tie a red ribbon on his tail. If you are riding a green
horse or if you are a green rider, tie a green ribbon on his tail. It will alert
others to potentially dangerous situations. Stallions are allowed and should
sport a yellow ribbon on his tail. However, if an incident should arise between
a stallion and another horse (mare or gelding), the stallion will be asked to
leave the group.
5) This is an adult ride, so we want to have fun. But if you are going to change
the pace of your ride, please go ahead of the group or stay behind the group and
always tell the group of your intentions. Never run up on the group or another
individual rider if you have elected to stay behind.
6) Bring a shovel & clean up any manure left around your trailer before
departing the trail head.
7) If any ride is held in a public place which requires a park permit, you are
responsible for purchasing your own permit. If the ride is across the state
line, you are responsible for making sure your horse has the appropriate health
and Coggin's papers.
8) Do not litter. Pack out what you pack in.
9) No dogs. Sorry, we love them, too, but not all horses are accustomed to dogs
and many state parks do not permit them on horse trails. Its only for a few
hours... they'll understand.
10) There are no dues or memberships. This is just an opportunity to ride
together.
11) The ride should start promptly at 6:30 PM. It is not necessary to wait for
an organizer. Whoever is saddled & ready to ride is considered the group for the
night.
12) If the trails are muddy and riding the trails will cause damage, it is the
policy of the Platte River Riders to NOT ride those trails. Lets save it for a
better day! These are "our trails". If we abuse it, we will lose it!

Just a reminder that the Nebraska Horse Trails Committee's
Benefit Game Day will be held Sat., Nov. 21 at 3V Stables.
(Flier attached). All proceeds will benefit trails in our
state. There will be a silent auction of goodies and don't
forget the raffle for the gently used snow blower! (Valued over
$1000!) (See any NHTC member for your raffle ticket! -- Don't
need to be present to win.)
Since this game day is geared toward trail riding, I've been
working on games of skill rather than games of speed. Although
we will have a few obligatory games of speed, you can enter in a
walk/trot class and not be up against those speed demons that
can turn a barrel with their eyes closed. :)
But what I think will appeal to many of you are the games of
challenge. Without giving away the particulars, here is a sneak
peek at what I have been working on:
Games for the NHTC Game Day (may be subject to change)
1. Patience - Horse must exhibit patience while the rider goes
thru 3 "seemingly simple" challenges
2. Trots & Turns - Horse must maintain gait & will be asked to
pivot on hindquarters or forehand
3. Rescue Race - Nope, not what you are thinking! It is a
partner game, but the rescue & transport is NOT your partner
4. Trail Course - Perhaps a gate, a bridge & a surprise... or
not....
5. Cowboy Up - Horse, Rider & Rope
6. Run, Jump & Back (with precision)
7. Relay - Rider may enter Walk & Trot or Speed Class
8. Barrel Races - Rider may enter Walk or Trot or Speed Class
9. Pole Bending - Rider may enter Walk or Trot or Speed Class
10. Musical Hoola Hoops
A flier is attached or can be found at

20Committee/112109gameday.pdf
Please spread the word by hanging a flier in your area or
forwarding to other groups.
If anyone has any items they would like to donate for the silent
auction, please contact Kathy Newberg at newbe44@... .
Thanks,
