Daylight Savings Time is finally here! Before horses, I never cared much for this time change. Hated having to get up an hour earlier! But after horses, what a difference that hour makes in the evening! There is actually daylight that can translate into saddle time! And it already has!
This time of year is also shedding time at our house. My black horses become black again for a brief time before they sun fade. Our little red dun mare is an awesome color right now. She almost looks roan. And our yearling, GinnyBelle, never did completely shed her foal coat last year, so I am anxious to see what shade of palomino she truly is!
The Platte River Riders (PRR) rides again! You may recall, the PRR is a once a week adult riding group. There are no dues or membership required. Just show up and enjoy the opportunity to ride with other adults and enjoy the great trails around our area. Guidelines & schedule are posted on HYPERLINK "http://www.horsetrailriders.com/prr.htm" http://www.horsetrailriders.com/prr.htm. The first ride is Wednesday April 12. Be saddled & ready to ride by 6:30! (Note: corrected time).
How many of you want to ride & have no riding buddies or simply don’t like to ride alone? The cool thing about the PRR is getting people together to ride. I’ve had interest in starting a Platte River Riders West group. If you are a reader from the Kearney/Hastings area and are interested in starting a similar group out in your area, please HYPERLINK "mailto:tvasa@...?subject=PRR West" email me. I can put you in touch with someone who would like to see it happen!
This Saturday, April 8, the HYPERLINK "http://www.thunderstrucktr.org/" Thunderstruck Trail Riders are hosting a trail clean-up day at Branched Oak near Raymond. I applaud their effort and hope that you will consider joining them. Meet the group at the parking lot on the south side of the dam at 10:00 AM. Bring gloves, nippers, clippers, or pruning tools. This is an already established trail, so cleaning up should be easy. For those of you who belong to HYPERLINK "http://www.nebraskahorsecouncil.org/nhtc.htm" Trail Time, your work hours will qualify as ride time! Contact Sarah Garcia at HYPERLINK "mailto:garciasj1@..." garciasj1@... or (402) 826-0188. The club will be providing lunch & she would like to have a count. Volunteering for trail upkeep keeps us on the trails.
Finally, the Nebraska Horse Trails Committee is hosting a HYPERLINK "http://www.horsetrailriders.com/041506gameday.htm" Benefit Game Day on Saturday, April 15 at HYPERLINK "http://www.3vstables.com/" 3V Stables north of Ashland. There will be 10 mounted games – all amateur, all for fun! Bring your horse & ride to support our trail projects. Also we will hold a silent auction of horse goodies. Information is HYPERLINK "http://www.horsetrailriders.com/041506gameday.htm" available online!
