BUFFALO BILLS (No. 23 First Round Selection)
The Bills may not address their defensive line heavy early on in the
draft - although defensive end remains a strong need for the team -
due to their recent signing of DT Sam Adams (Raiders), who can shore
up the middle of the defensive line with strong run-blocking
ability ... Buffalo may have QB on the mind as they look for a long-
term replacement to QB Drew Bledsoe. Team representatives were in
attendance at Mt. Union College QB Rob Adamson's workout at Kent
State University ... The Bills will also have pre-draft visits with
LB Chaun Thompson (W. Texas A&M) and DT Johnathan Sullivan (Georgia).
INDIANAPOLIS COLTS (No. 24 First Round Selection)
The Colts may be looking to draft a tight end to serve as a backup to
TE Marcus Pollard. Earlier this year, the team tried to land some
free agent tight ends but were not successful, thus they may look
towards picking one up at some point in the draft ... The team will
have a pre-draft visit with DE Osi Umenyiora (Troy State), OG Rex
Richards (Texas Tech) and WR Arnaz Battle (Notre Dame) ... Despite
head coach Tony Dungy saying QB wasn't a position the team was
looking at during the NFL Combine, the team did have representatives
at Kent State to watch QB Rob Adamson (Mt. Union) workout ... RB Chad
Brinker (Ohio University) worked out for the team on March 22.
NEW YORK GIANTS (No. 25 First Round Selection)
The Giants sent representatives to Kent State to watch QB Rob Adamson
(Mt. Union) workout on March 21 ... The team has also had RB Chad
Brinker (Ohio University) in for a workout on March 22 ... DT
Johnathan Sullivan (Georgia) may also be on the team's radar, as
they're reportedly interested in having him come in for a pre-draft
visit ... The team continues to be unhappy with RB Ron Dayne, a
former first round selection, and he's just as disgruntled with his
lack of use on the field. There's a chance the team could start
shopping him to other teams but they probably wouldn't be able to get
much in return as Dayne has done little while spending most of his
time playing behind Tiki Barber.
SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS (No. 26 First Round Selection)
The 49ers plan to have a pre-draft visit with WR Kelley Washington
(Tennessee). With WRs Terrell Owens and Tai Streets a year removed
from being unrestricted free agents and WR J.J. Stokes' future with
the team still in question, the 49ers need to begin addressing the
receiver position. Washington, at 6-foot-2 1/2 and 215 pounds, has
the big, physical playing style that has worked well as a possession-
type receiver in the West Coast offensive scheme.
PITTSBURGH STEELERS (No. 27 First Round Selection)
The Steelers have said they plan to keep CB Chad Scott at corner -
instead of moving him to safety - so the team may now adjust their
view from more help at corner to looking to upgrade the safety
position in the draft. However, head coach Bill Cowher believes the
team will be able to find a capable safety via free agency after June
1 ... The team is also interested in landing a rookie QB to begin
grooming as the QB of the future. With Tommy Maddox 32 years of age
the team plans to have pre-draft visits with QBs Rex Grossman
(Florida) and Kyle Boller (California) ... In other draft prospect
news, the team plans to have DE Osi Umenyiora (Troy State), DE Calvin
Branch (Wake Forest) and P Sean McNicholas (Edinboro University) in
for pre-draft visits.
GREEN BAY PACKERS (No. 29 First Round Selection)
The Packers plan to have a pre-draft visit with DE Osi Umenyiora
(Troy State) and have sent representatives to recent workouts by QB
Rob Adamson (Mt. Union) and OT Courtney Van Buren (Arkansas Pine
Bluff).
PHILADELPHIA EAGLES (No. 30 First Round Selection)
The Eagles are reportedly interested in grooming a tight end to
eventually replace TE Chad Lewis, who is 31 years of age. They've
shown interest in TEs L.J. Smith (Rutgers) and Bennie Joppru
(Michigan), and both players could be available at the tail end of
the first-round. Smith is scheduled to have a pre-draft visit with
the team.
