Hi Warroirs, hope your training went well this morning.
Coach Joe Biondi, Head Coach Sun Masters will be holding an Open water-training
swim in preparation for the Top Gun Triathlon. The training swim will be at
Pass-A-Grille on Sunday July 26, 2009 at 8:30 am.
This will be a great opportunity for the seasoned and newer triathletes. We
will be swimming a ¼ mile course complete with buoys. We will practice all of
the essential skills to enhance swimmer's comfort and success in the open water.
We work on open water anxiety, proper breathing, entering and exiting the water,
navigation, drafting and more. This swim will be limited to the first 100
swimmers that sign up and pay the fee. No refunds.
The OW training will take place at beautiful Pass-A-Grill Beach, 1 mile south of
the historic Don Cesar Resort. The fee for this coached OW practice will be
$20.00 per swimmer. All entries must be received by Wednesday, July 22nd, and
there will be NO on-site entries accepted: no exceptions. Please fill out
attached waiver, make check payable to Joe Biondi,
and mail both to: Joe Biondi, 216 Elizabeth Avenue, Clearwater, FL
33759-4007.
Check-in will begin at 7:30 am, at the pavilion in Frank T. Hurley Park, 1501
Gulf Way, 33706. After check-in, please head across the street to the boardwalk
and up the beach. We will start waterside, approximately 1/4 mile north of the
boardwalk, at 8:30 am sharp. I will have swim buoys in the water to assist with
the navigation skills. This training will take roughly 1.5-2 hours. Hurley
Park has metered parking, credit card or change (the meters do not take $
bills). There are restrooms and outdoor showers for your convenience. The
water temperature is estimated to be in the high 80's.
This is not a learn-to-swim program. If you cannot swim 440 yards in open water
this swim is not for you. This is swim at your own risk, as there will be no
lifeguards. If you are a new triathlete and wish to take advantage of this
training and get use to the open water swimming, you may swim close to shore
parallel to the beach. There will be several qualified coaches to adequately
instruct all participants.
If you have a brightly colored swim cap please bring it. If you do not have a
cap you will be provided with a swim cap that must be worn during the swim. If
you wish to have a time for your swims, you will have to keep your own. We will
swim the course 2 or 3 times, as weather permits. If the weather is
bad...lightning or unsafe conditions...we will not swim. Florida weather
changes rapidly, so waiting a half hour or so is not out of the question. Most
storms are in the PM and usually move fast...pray for great weather.
We are looking forward to this training...it will be very challenging and fun,
snorkels are allowed in triathlons.
Any questions...give me a shout.
Swimmingly,
Coach Joe Biondi
