As you may have noticed, on the PHL Website there is now an Official
PHL Cup. While there is no storied history to this piece of hardware
yet, starting with the 2006-07 PHL Season it will be presented to the
winning GM in the Regular Season.
Although it will have to be voted on, one of either the winning GM or
the previous year's winning GM will have to arrange for delivery (and
any associated costs; shipping, insurance, etc.) to the subsequent
winner. This trophy will represent the league champions every year,
and is a treasured prize for the winning organization.
The PHL Cup can currently be viewed (by appointment only) at 11411
Coventry Blvd NE, in Calgary.

Hi guys,

Unfortunately, due to hardware/technical difficulties with the Teeple
Rage home computer, the PHL Website has not been updated. The stats
are still being tabulated on a daily basis, but the website is out-of-
date. As a temporary measure, I will upload the daily standings to the
Yahoo Group site - in the left hand pane, click on Files, and you can
then look at each individual page.

Once the normal system is working again, I will post a message here.

Thanks for your patience.

Chris

Hey Chris,

As the initiator of this whole thing, I feel like I should attend. However, the conference call runs in conflict with the CFL Western Finals. Oh yeah I forgot that the Calgary stampeders won't be there . . oops !

Really I will be at the game and not able to attend the conference call. I will support whatever is determined as I have in the past. I'm sure the remaining GM's will be able to hammer out a solution.

I look forward to a resolution of this matter

Sincerely,
Stuart

Hello GMs,

As there has been no concensus for the details of the revised trading
rules/proposals, we are attempting to work out some details via a
conference call this Sunday, November 12 at 4 PM PST.

If you are interested in participating, please email your contact phone
number to Jamie Polard of the Polard Predator. He will phone you and
conference you in to the group call. (Sorry, this is not available for
the Asian conference teams at this time.)

Once the options have been discussed, we hope to have a new proposal
done for next week sometime.

In order to boost their defense, The Baber Red Eyes have completed two
trades. I have verified these trades and both conform to the trading
rules.

1. Red Eyes trade P Forsberg (F) to the Predator for T Lydman (D)
2. Red Eyes trade P Bergeron (F) to the Hitmen for S Weber (D)

I will be keeping track all players traded and the dates of trades to
ensure that the anti-collusion rule is not violated.

Hey guys, just had a few beers..and came up with some pearls regarding our
beloved pool!

I was thinking that next year we could implement a "head to head"component in
the PHL.
By this I mean on Saturday nights, you pick 5 guys (3 forward, 2 defense -no
goalies) to go
head to head with another teams 5 guys.

Prior to the start of the year a schedule is made (each team plays other 3
times). If your 5
man roster beats the other team's you win!

At the end of the year a bonus is given to the top 3 finalists in head to head
play. (Say 15
for first, 10 for second and 5 for 3rd). Head to head standings would be based
on WIN,
LOSS record NOT total points scored.

You could even implement a rule stating that each team's top forward, and top
defenseman are not permitted on head to head rosters.

This would add another "prognosticating element" to the pool, and allow a
greater
number of teams to remain in contention for prize money! I for one can't wait to
see my
beloved Spooners take on the Teeple Rage at the RBC Center in Calgary!

Enter your vote today! A new poll has been created for the
phlpool group:

In order to maintain roster limits, each franchise roster shall be allowed to
either increase or decrease by a total of 3 players at any point during the
regular season. Uneven trades will be allowed, as long as existing trading
rules are followed, and rosters after the trade are between 27 and 33 players,
inclusive.
At the annual redraft, the 30-player roster limit shall be in effect. Upon
completion of the redraft, all PHL Franchises must have exactly 30 players on
their rosters.

Well, good points have been raised by at least two GM's in regard to this question/rule.  Perhaps for the upcoming season, anyway, we should amend the proposal to make each team's roster plus or minus a maximum of 3 players.  This would at least lay the groundwork for future roster size expansion (or contraction if necessary), and yet would still facilitate the uneven trade ability as proposed by the Torsion.  The Hunter Down's point is valid - 12 forwards, 6 defence, and 2 goalies need to be on your roster in order to count maximum points.
However, the Gardeners also have a valid point - if a GM (for whatever reason) wanted to purge his roster (eg. essentially giving up for the season) he could effectively make several 4 for 1 (or worse) deals, and could hypothetically reduce his roster to less than 10 players.
In a worst case scenario, a crappy team could essentially pair up with a stronger team, make several lopsided trades, and basically get all their good players on the stronger team roster.  At the end of the season, the stronger team GM could split the prize winnings with the weaker team (who would probably fold his team in July, seeing as the 10 or so players he has left are really really crappy), and we would be left with 8 unhappy GMs, and 1 happy one.
I believe having a minimum player limit would help to deter collusion such as this scenario.  For the upcoming season, does everyone agree that +/- 3 players would work?  At the re-draft next September, the rosters should be required to be reset to the 30 player maximum (at that time only).  The reasoning for the 30 player limit at the redraft is to place a value on a team's roster slot.  If we allowed for an expanded roster size at redraft, then it reduces the value of all the available free agents - I know that if I had an extra 5 spots to fill, it would be very easy to do so, and the free agent pool for next year would be severely depleted.
I will post the amended poll question tonight, allowing for a gain or loss of a maximum of 3 players.  The existing poll will be deleted in the near future.
Chris

I'm fine with that as well. We did vote yes in the first place because we
feel it doesn't really matter if a guy has 40 players on his roster it's
still only the top 12 forwards that count. For all we care if someone wants
to trade 10 guys off his roster for 1 then let him. He'll not be fully
utilizing his roster space and that's his own damn fault. If a guy trades
all his players it's up to him to figure out how to get guys back to in
order to count for him. If Lou Lamarello decides to blow out his own teams
salary cap then it's up to him to figure out how to get it back under 44 mil
by the time the season starts (nice work by the way). With this in mind I
dont' understand why we need to have 30 players at the end of the fall
draft. If I have made trades and am down to 26 players on my roster and
then want to blowout all my bidding points on 1 guy and bring my roster up
to 27 what is wrong with that? In the end though as long as we are allowed
to make 2 for 1 or 3 for 1 trades the Hunter Down is happy.

Hello all,

After much data manipulation, I was finally able to compile a list of undrafted players for the upcoming draft (tentitively scheduled for Friday, September 29).

I have posted the undrafted list at this webpage address:
http://www3.telus.net/teeple/sept06undrafted.htm

If you like, I can also email it to you - if you want the Excel page, let me know.

Two things to note with this list:

1) Defence are NOT sorted out from the Forwards, so their 2005-06 PHL Points column will NOT factor in their +/- rating.

2) Only players that played in the NHL last year are on the list.  2006 Draft picks (eg. Phil Kessel) are not included, nor are any prospects that may have played in other leagues.

The finishing rosters for all PHL Teams at the end of 2005-06 season can be viewed at: http://www3.telus.net/teeple/0506final.htm

Hello PHL GMs,

It is with sadness that I write this summary, as it means another
exciting hockey season has gone by the wayside. The return of the
NHL (and PHL) in 2005-6 made us all realize how much we had missed
Canada's game! Let's hope we never see another lockout like the one
in 04-05!

The PHL Stats have been manually tabulated, and the results are in:

Regular Season

1st - 1,260.5 pts Thomson Torsion
2nd - 1,252.3 pts Teeple Rage
3rd - 1,244.5 pts Hunter Down

Playoff Season

1st - 97 pts Teeple Rage
2nd - 95.5 pts Thomson Torsion
3rd - (tie) 82.5 pts Hunter Down & Cawdell Illusion

The Thomson Torsion had a fantastic year, led by the young prolific
scorers Kovalchuk and Cheechoo, the sweet passing of Spezza and
Savard, and breakout seasons from the brothers known as the Sedin
Sisters. Any time that Jarome Iginla is the 7th highest scoring
forward on your team, you know it's been a good year! When McCabe's
offensive explosion (on a talent-challenged Leafs squad) and Turco's
solid season are factored in, it all added up to a 1st place
finish! It was a close finish - only 16 points separated 1st from
3rd - but the Torsion stuck it out, and came out victorious!
Congratulations, Stu!

The playoffs were equally close, with the winning points being
scored in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals. The Teeple Rage got
some measure of revenge for their 2nd place regular season finish,
with strong playoff runs from the young (Eric Staal) and the old
(Mark Recchi). Steve Yzerman, while not able to lift the Silver
Chalice in the NHL this year, was able to capture the PHL Playoff
Cup, and if he decides to retire, he will do so as a winner!

The PHL Annual Re-draft will be held in approximately 3 months time,
in Victoria, BC. (I understand the BS Spooners may be able to
attend in person this year....) Further details will be
forthcoming - if you have any weekend plans for the month of
September that would interfere with the re-draft, please let me know
ASAP so we can make scheduling arrangements that (hopefully) work
for everyone. In the meantime, feel free to use the PHL Yahoo Group
site for posting messages, trade offers, etc. I will be placing a
poll there shortly for a proposed rule designed to prevent
collusion. I shall also update the database of players sometime
this summer so you can export a list of the drafted players to help
in your 2006-7 Draft preparations.

2006-7 Drafting Points

Dufour Mountain Goat 500 pts
BS Spooners 450 pts
Cawdell Illusion 400 pts
Flyin' Findlays 350 pts
Hefty's Hitmen 300 pts
Wilson Gardeners 250 pts
Polard Predator 200 pts
Hunter Down 150 pts
Teeple Rage 100 pts
Thomson Torsion 50 pts

Congratulations again to the Torsion, Rage, Down, and Illusion for
their sucesses in the new-look NHL! (I still can't figure out how we
had the highest scoring regular season ever and the 2nd lowest
playoff total ever!)

Thanks to everyone for making this another fantastic PHL season! I
look forward to talking to each and every GM in September (or
sooner - if you're coming by Calgary this summer, lemme know, and
we'll get together for a beverage on a sunny patio somewhere).

Have a teriffic summer!

On behalf of the PHL Board of Directors,

Chris Teeple

The Dufour Mountain Goats enter the 2006 PHL playoffs on a
probationary status due to nonpayment of PHL league fees. If fee
payment is not received DURING THE FIRST ROUND of the 2006 NHL
playoffs the Mountain Goats franchise will be suspended for the
remainder of the playoffs with no eligiblity in the standings. The
franchise's players will then undergo a dispersal draft at the 2006
PHL Free Agent Draft unless a new suitable replacement GM wishes to
take over the franchise.

Ger Cawdell

Hey it's me again :)

The B.S. Spooners have agreed to send Numminen to the Finlay's in exchange
for Lombardi and 60 points.

HOWEVER.....if the maximum number of points allowed on draft day is
500...we'll do the deal for 50 points. Unclear of the rules on this one.

Welcome to the new PHL Pool Group site. On this site (powered by
Yahoo), we will be able to post messages, run polls, upload files, and
even chat through the Yahoo website. As each PHL GM signs in, I will
be uploading the current team roster - you can view them by clicking
on the Database link to the left. Feel free to post any messages here
as you like - this Group site should make communication between GM's a
little easier for the upcoming season.

If you have any comments or suggestions, feel free to post them here.

Chris
