Philadelphia Women's Rugby Football Club (PWRFC) was founded in 1976, making it the most established women's rugby club in the Philadelphia area. The club was one of four East Coast teams to go to the very first National Competition in 1978 and has participated in the 1997 and 1998 National Tournament Plate Division and in the National Sweet 16's in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004 and most recently in 2006, placing 9th. PWRFC currently fields a competitive senior side as well as a developmental side that competes in 15's in the fall and spring and 7's in the summer.
