Subject: WRITTEN BY A KID IN SCHOOL - New Pledge of Allegiance.

New Pledge of Allegiance (TOTALLY AWESOME)

New Pledge of Allegiance!

Since the Pledge of Allegiance
and
The Lord's Prayer
are not allowed in most
public schools anymore
Because the word "God" is mentioned....
A kid in Arizona wrote the attached
NEW School prayer.
I liked it.

Now I sit me down in school
Where praying is against the rule
For this great nation under God
Finds mention of Him very odd.

If Scripture now the class recites,
It violates the Bill of Rights.
And anytime my head I bow
Becomes a Federal matter now.

Our hair can be purple, orange or green,
That's no offense; it's a freedom scene.
The law is specific, the law is precise.
Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.

For praying in a public hall
Might offend someone with no faith at all.
In silence alone we must meditate,
God's name is prohibited by the state.

We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,
And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks.
They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.
To quote the Good Book makes me liable.

We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,
And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King.
It's "inappropriate" to teach right from wrong,
We're taught that such "judgments" do not belong.

We can get our condoms and birth controls,
Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles.
But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,
No word of God must reach this crowd.
   !

It's scary here I must confess,
When chaos reigns the school's a mess.
So, Lord, this silent plea I make:
Should I be shot; My soul please take!
Amen

If you aren't ashamed to do this,
please pass this on.
Jesus said,
"If you are ashamed of me,
I will be ashamed of you before my Father."

Not ashamed. Pass this on.

       Pastor's Business Card

A new pastor was visiting in the homes of his parishioners. At one house
it seemed obvious that someone was at home, but no answer came to his repeated
knocks at the door.

Therefore, he took out a business card and wrote "Revelation 3:20" on the
back of it and stuck it in the door.

When the offering was processed the following Sunday, he found that his card
had been returned. Added to it was this cryptic message, "Genesis 3:10."

Reaching for his Bible to check out the citation, he broke up in gales of
laughter. Revelation 3:20 begins "Behold, I stand at the door and knock."
Genesis 3:10 reads, "I heard your voice in the garden and I was afraid for I was
naked."

Remember when the funniest jokes were the clean ones? They still are! "A
cheerful heart is good medicine" (Prov. 17:22) Now, pass it on!

"America's Email"..today by Arlene DiRocco: SALUTE TO OLD GLORY
July 4, 2007 -- There was a time, not all that long ago, when a few foolish folk
thought they would best demonstrate the freedom the American flag symbolizes
simply by burning the flag itself. But the flag endures.
On July 4, the nation's thoughts traditionally turn to the hopes and virtues
that the Stars and Stripes represent - thoughts that have inspired America's
poets since the Republic's early days. Ralph Waldo Emerson's grandfather,
William Emerson, was a minister in Concord at the start of the Revolution. On
April 19, 1775, he urged the Minutemen to stand their ground near his parsonage,
the "Old Manse." In 1776, he left home to join the troops near Ticonderoga. His
family never saw him again: He died of a fever, caught on the punishing journey.
In memory of his grandfather and the fallen Minutemen, Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote
the following verses, sung at the dedication of the Concord Battle Monument on
July 4, 1837. Concord Hymn
by Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882)
By the rude bridge that arched the flood
Their flag to April's breeze unfurled
Here once the embattled farmers stood
And fired the shot heard round the world.
The foe long since in silence slept;
Alike the conqueror silent sleeps;
And time the ruined bridge has swept
Down the dark stream which seaward creeps.
On this green bank, by this soft stream,
We set today a votive stone;
That memory may their deed redeem
When, like our sires, our sons are gone.
Spirit that made those heroes dare
To die, and leave their children free
Bid Time and Nature gently spare
The shaft we raise to them and thee. Walt Whitman saw firsthand the dreadful
sacrifice young Americans made for the flag in the Civil War: He tended the
wounded on the battlefield and elsewhere until the last military hospital in
Washington closed, long after Lee's surrender. Bathed in War's Perfume
by Walt Whitman (1819-1892)
Bathed in war's perfume - delicate flag!
(Should the days needing armies, needing fleets, come again)
O to hear you call the sailors and the soldiers! flag like a beautiful woman!
O to hear the tramp, tramp, tramp of a million answering men!
O the ships they arm with joy!
O to see you leap and beckon from the tall masts of ships!
O to see you peering down on the sailors of the decks!
Flag like the eyes of women! It is only in recent years that the Stars and
Stripes has been considered appropriate patching material for blue jeans.
Indeed, as the Ohio poet Henry Holcomb Bennett points out, people who failed to
accord the flag the respect it deserved would usually be put sharply in their
place by their fellow citizens. The Flag Goes By
by Henry Holcomb Bennett (1863-1924)
Hats off!
Along the street there comes
A blare of bugles, a ruffle of drums,
A flash of color beneath the sky;
Hats off!
The flag is passing by!
Blue and crimson and white it shines
Over the steel-tipped, ordered lines
Hats off!
The colors before us fly;
But more than the flag is passing by:
Sea-fights and land-fights, grim and great
Fought to make and to save the State:
Weary marches and sinking ships;
Cheers of victory on dying lips;
Days of plenty and years of peace;
March of a strong land's swift increase;
Equal justice, right and law,
Stately honor and reverend awe;
Sign of a nation, great and strong
Toward her people from foreign wrong:
Pride and glory and honor all
Live in the colors to stand o r fall.

I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG,

OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,

AND TO THE REPUBLIC, FOR WHICH IT STANDS,

     ONE NATION UNDER GOD,

     INDIVISIBLE, WITH LIBERTY

     AND JUSTICE FOR ALL!

KEEP IT LIT!! KEEP IT LIT!

For all of our other military personnel, where ever they may be

Please support all of the troops defending our Country.

And God Bless our Military who are protecting our Country for our freedom.
Thanks to them, and their sacrifices we can celebrate the 4th of July

PLEASE KEEP IT GOING TO YOUR FRIENDS, DON'T LET THE FLAME DIE OUT!
  PLEASE KEEP THIS GOING

We must never forget who gets the credit for the freedoms we have, and for
which we should be eternally grateful.

I watched the flag pass by one day,
It fluttered in the breeze.

A young Marine saluted it,
And then he stood at ease..

I looked at him in uniform
So young, so tall, so proud,
With hair cut square and eyes alert
He'd stand out in any crowd.

I thought how many men like him
Had fallen through the years.
How many died on foreign soil
How many mothers' tears?

How many pilots' planes shot down?
How many died at sea
How many foxholes were soldiers' graves?
No, freedom isn't free.

I heard the sound of Taps one night,
When everything was still,
I listened to the bugler play
And felt a sudden chill.
I wondered just how many times
That Taps had meant "Amen,"

When a flag had draped a coffin.
Of a brother or a friend.

I thought of all the children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons and husbands
With interrupted lives.

I thought about a graveyard
At the bottom of the sea

Of unmarked graves in Arlington .
No, freedom isn't free.

Enjoy Your Freedom & God Bless Our Troops

"America's Email"......"Republicans believe EVERY Day is the 4th of
July...Democrats believe EVERY Day is April 15th" - Ronald Reagan ..WELCOME To
"Field of Dreams Today"....Finally back from our Memorial Day break.....I had to
write today..I got the attached email today and just got madder and madder...I
went to the George Allen video and heard him speak today and thought that just
one year ago today he was probably Virginia's Most Popular Elected
Official....Headed towards relection to the Senate and the leading conservative
for the GOP in 2008...Than Jim Webb violated everything he had ever said and
believed and became a democrat....In the course of 5 months he had destroyed
this fine man...State Delegate...Governor and Senator...For what?? What have the
democarts done since they took power?? Blame EVERYTHING on President Bush.....Oh
and yes Nancy Pelosi and her jet and her visit to Syria when the Commander In
Chief asked her NOT to go....Harry Reid has a 19 percent
approval rating...And is a joke as Majority leader...Many of my friends ask me
why I stand with my President?? Well someone has to....This good man - who has
made mistakes - is pounded by just about everyoine.....He didnt ask for 9/11 but
he acted....No attacks in almost 6 years.....Does he get any credit for that? I
know many of my fellow conservatives are mad at him for the new huge
Prescrtiption drug plan...And the No child left behind..And on Immigration
reform...To be honest I not thrilled..But he ran on all 3 along with tax cuts
and faith based programs and strong conservative judges and strong on Pro
Life...Unlike many politicians he has kept his word on these issues...Bill
Clinton said he would NOT raise taxes..And did in his first 6 months...George
Bush does stand for something..My Party does still stand for something..What do
democrats stand for?? Let's think.....That's right POWER...And they destroyed a
good man like George Allen and have done everything
possible to destroy this President...My question to my democrat friends is..I
can sleep at night..Can You????

Rocket has landed; season set to take off

Roger Clemens made a theatrical return to New York this week, surprising a
packed house at Yankee Stadium by announcing in the middle of a game that he
would rejoin the Bronx Bombers. How much of an impact he will have on the season
remains to be seen, but a number of other clubs -- the Brewers, Braves, Mets,
Dodgers, Red Sox, Indians and Tigers, for example -- are enjoying their own
theatre as the season approaches the one-third mark. MORE »

earnwings1@... wrote: Subject: Star Spangled Banner

Unless you know all four stanzas of the Star Spangled Banner you may find this
most interesting. Perhaps most of you didn't realize what Francis Scott Key's
profession was or what he was doing on a ship. This is a good brush-up on your
history.

(Editor's Note- Near the end of his life, the great science fiction author Isaac
Asimov wrote a short story about the four stanzas of our national anthem.
However brief, this well-circulated piece is an eye opener from the dearly
departed doctor... ...) " I have a weakness -- I am crazy, absolutely nuts,
about our national anthem. The words are difficult and the tune is almost
impossible, but frequently when I'm taking a shower I sing it with as much power
and emotion as I can. It shakes me up every time."

NO REFUGE COULD SAVE : BY DR. ISAAC ASIMOV

I was once asked to speak at a luncheon. Taking my life in my hands, I announced
I was going to sing our national anthem -- all four stanzas. This was greeted
with loud groans. One man closed the door to the kitchen, where the noise of
dishes and cutlery was loud and distracting. "Thanks, Herb," I said.

"That's all right," he said. "It was at the request of the kitchen staff"

I explained the background of the anthem and then sang all four stanzas. Let me
tell you, those people had never heard it before -- or had never really
listened. I got a standing ovation. But it was not me; it was the anthem.

More recently, while conducting a seminar, I told my students the story of the
anthem and sang all four stanzas. Again there was a wild ovation and prolonged
applause. And again, it was the anthem and not me.

So now let me tell you how it came to be written.

In 1812, the United States went to war with Great Britain, primarily over
freedom of the seas. We were in the right. For two years, we held off the
British, even though we were still a rather weak country. Great Britain was in a
life and death struggle with Napoleon. In fact, just as the United Sta tes
declared war, Napoleon marched off to invade Russia. If he won, as everyone
expected, he would control Europe, and Great Britain would be isolated. It was
no time for her to be involved in an American war.

At first, our seamen proved better than the British. After we won a battle on
Lake Erie in 1813, the American commander, Oliver Hazard Perry, sent the
message, "We have met the enemy and they are ours." However, the weight of the
British navy beat down our ships eventually. New England, hard-hit by a
tightening blockade, threatened secession.

Meanwhile, Napoleon was beaten in Russia and in 1814 was forced to abdicate.
Great Britain now turned its attention to the United States, launching a
three-pronged attack.

The northern prong was to come down Lake Champlain toward New York and seize
parts of New England. /B>

The southern prong was to go up the Mississippi, take New Orleans and paralyze
the west.

The central prong was to head for the mid-Atlantic states and then attack
Baltimore, the greatest port south of New York. If Baltimore was taken, the
nation, which still hugged the Atlantic coast, could be split in two. The fate
of the United States, then, rested to a large extent on the success or failure
of the central prong.

The British reached the American coast, and on August 24, 1814, took Washington,
D.C. Then they moved up the Chesapeake Bay toward Baltimore. On September 12,
they arrived and found 1,000 men in Fort McHenry, whose guns controlled the
harbor. If the British wished to take Baltimore, they would have to take the
fort.

On one of the British ships was an aged physician, William Beanes, who had been
arrested in Maryland and brought along as a prisoner. Francis Scott Key, a
lawyer and friend of the physician, had come to the ship to negotiate his
release.

The British captain was willing, but the two Americans would have to wait. It
was now the night of September 13, and the bombardment of Fort McHenry was about
to start.

As twilight deepened, Key and Beanes saw the American flag flying over Fort
McHenry. Through the night, they heard bombs bursting and saw the red glare of
rockets. They knew the fort was resisting and the American flag was still
flying. But toward morning the bombardment ceased, and a dread silence fell.
Either Fort McHenry had surrendered and the British flag flew above it, or the
bombardment had failed and the American flag still flew.

As dawn began to brighten the easter n sky, Key and Beanes stared out at the
fort, trying to see which flag flew over it. He and the physician must have
asked each other over and over, "Can you see the flag?"

After it was all finished, Key wrote a four stanza poem telling the events of
the night. Called "The Defense of Fort McHenry," it was published in newspapers
and swept the nation. Someone noted that the words fit an old English tune
called, "To Anacreon in Heaven" -- a difficult melody with an uncomfortably
large vocal range. For obvious reasons, Key's work became known as "The Star
Spangled Banner," and in 1931 Congress declared it the official anthem of the
United States.

Now that you know the story, here are the words. Presumably, the old doctor is
speaking. This is what he asks Key:

Oh! say, can you see, by the dawn's ea rly light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there.
Oh! say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave,
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

("Ramparts," in case you don't know, are the protective walls or other
elevations that surround a fort.) The first stanza asks a question. The second
gives an answe r:

On the shore, dimly seen thro' the mist of the deep
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep.
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream
'Tis the star-spangled banner. Oh! long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

"The towering steep" is again, the ramparts. The bombardment h as failed, and
the British can do nothing more but sail away, their mission a failure. In the
third stanza I feel Key allows himself to gloat over the American triumph. In
the aftermath of the bombardment, Key probably was in no mood to act otherwise?
During World War I when the British were our Staunchest allies, this third
stanza was not sung. However, I know it, so here it is:

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footstep's pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flig ht, or the gloom of the grave,
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

(The fourth stanza, a pious hope for the future, should be sung more slowly than
the other three and with even deeper feeling):

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved homes and the war's desolation,
Blest with victory and peace, may the Heaven - rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, for our cause is just,
B>And this be our motto --"In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

I hope you will look at the national anthem with new eyes. Listen to it, the
next time you have a chance, with new ears. Pay attention to the words. And
don't let them ever take it away ... not even one word of it.

AND IT'S SUNG IN ENGLISH!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Clay's Retirement Home's John Graham II resigned as
Chief Executive Officer and President of the almost half Century business
effective last Friday March 16. "The time was right for me to go. With Clay's
new owner Celestine Hicks taking over March 2 it just seemed the right to do",
the 46 year old former pro baseball executive said. l think that new owners
should have the right to make the changes they want to do. I could have stayed,
but when the deal closed on March 2 I really did some soul searching and decided
to move on". Graham added. This will mark the first in the almost 50 years of
business at Clays that the Clay or Graham family will not be operate the
facility.
Graham said it was a difficult decision "The residents and staff have become
part of my family. Before coming to Blacksone 5 years ago I had always said I
had no interest in running this retirement home. But I will treasure my time as
CEO at Clay's. It has been so rewarding and I will never forget this time"
Graham said.
As far as new ownership Graham said "Celestine (Hicks) is a smart solid
businesswoman. I know she will work hard to keep Clay's moving forward" added
Graham ' Thje new name is Clay"s Assisted Living. Mrs
Hicks also owns 2 homes in the Richmond area.
"Clay's has always had that special "Clay's difference". We treat all our
residents and staff as family and I don't think any retirement home anywhere has
this special relsationship with their people. That would be my biggest
recomendation to Mrs Hicks." Graham said.
Graham was a pro baseball executive for 17 years with the Phillies, White Sox,
Astros and Mariners. He than spent 10 years as Southeast Region International
Customer service manager for Airborne Express. He moved to Blackstone 5 years ago
to help his mother Joan Graham operate the facility, due to illness of the
Senior John Graham. Mr Graham died last Easter Sunday. Mrs Graham has moved to
Lake Gastone fulltime. Mr Graham is spending time there as well. "I need a
break. I do intend to retrurn to Nottoway County and try make a difference. I
also thank all the businesses in the County for their help. And of course I wish
all the very best to our residents, staff and new owner Celestine Hicks. May God
Bless all of them and God Speed." Mr Graham added.

"America's Email"....Today by SHERRIE KIRBY

George Phillips of Meridian, Mississippi was going up to bed when
his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the garden shed, which she
could see from the bedroom window. George opened the back door to go turn off
the light, but saw that there were people in the shed stealing things. He phoned
the police, who asked "Is someone in your house?" and he said "no". Then they
said that all patrols were busy, and that he should simply lock his door and an
officer would be along when available. George said, "Okay," hung up, counted to
30, and phoned the police again.

"Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people in my
shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now cause I've just shot them
all." Then he hung up.

Within five minutes three police cars, an Armed Response unit, and an ambulance
showed up at the Phillips residence and caught the burglars red-handed.

One of the Policemen said to ! George: "I thought you said that you'd shot
them!"

George said, "I thought you said there was nobody available!"

(True Story) I LOVE IT...

As the debate continues in the U.S. House on a resolution opposing President
Bush's call for more troops in Iraq, one must ask a few questions. Are we doing
everything we can to win? Are we using our military strength to its fullest
extent, or are we once again letting politics dictate military actions. For some
answers, it's best to ask the troops.

KEEP THIS GOING PLEASE

I watched the flag pass by one day,
It fluttered in the breeze.

A young Marine saluted it,
And then he stood at ease..

I looked at him in uniform
So young, so tall, so proud,
With hair cut square and eyes alert
He'd stand out in any crowd.

I thought how many men like him
Had fallen through the years.
How many died on foreign soil
How many mothers' tears?

How many pilots' planes shot down?
How many died at sea
How many foxholes were soldiers' graves?
No, freedom isn't free.

I heard the sound of Taps one night,
When everything was still,
I listened to the bugler play
And felt a s udden chill. I wondered just how many times
That Taps had meant "Amen,"

When a flag! had draped a coffin.
Of a brother or a friend.

I thought of all the children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons and husbands
With interrupted lives.

I thought about a graveyard
At the bottom of the sea

Of unmarked graves in Arlington.
No, freedom isn't free.

Whatever the mighty Clinton spin machine is saying about the front-page
catfight between Hillary, Barack Obama, and David Geffen, the fact is, the
Geffen-Obama forces put a big hurt on the presidential aspirations of the former
First Lady. This brouhaha blossomed when Geffen, the left-wing media mogul,
told New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd that “Everybody in politics lies, but
[the Clintons] do it with such ease, it’s troubling.” He said a lot more that
was derogatory specifically to Hillary Clinton, but that’s the key statement
since Geffen is obviously referring to both Clintons. After all, it was Hillary
who enabled Bill’s lies time and again. Now, America is being told -- and by a
former Clinton benefactor no less -- that there’s more where that came from.
Geffen’s shot across the bow, with its huge media echo chamber, reminds folks
what it was like when the Clintons were in the White House. Geffen has
single-handedly pried the lid off the rusty old can
of Clinton lies, reminding voters of what will happen if this truth-challenged
couple ever returns to the Oval Office. Does the American electorate want to
go through this all over again? Have we forgotten the lies? Go Google the
simple phrase “Bill Clinton lies.” When I do so, this is what I quickly turn up
(and from various sources): -- Clinton lied under oath to a Federal Grand
Jury. (That’s perjury, of course, and perjury remains a felony.) -- Clinton
continues to lie about his 12-year affair with Gennifer Flowers. -- Clinton
still denies he sexually harassed Paula Jones. (Even though he paid her $850,000
in hush money.) -- Clinton persists in dismissing the Whitewater scandal as
a “land deal where I lost money.” (Despite the fact that a dozen of his close
associates landed in jail over the matter.) -- Clinton illegally obtained
FBI files on his political opponents, and lied about that, too. -- On the
golf course, Clinton has an
incredibly difficult time playing his ball where it lies. According to close
observers (Tiger Woods among them), Clinton exhibits questionable math when he
tallies his scorecard. -- And according to Washington Post reporter John
Harris, Clinton was so upset about his inability to lose weight in 2000, that
following his annual physical he instructed aides to release a bogus number that
made him five pounds lighter. David Geffen also has turned our attentions
back to the days of the Lincoln bedroom scandal, when White House sleepovers
were regularly offered in exchange for large political contributions. I could be
wrong, but I don’t recall a single instance of this happening while George W.
Bush has been in office. Same for Bush Sr. and Ronald Reagan. For that matter, I
don’t recall any Lincoln-bedroom sales during the presidencies of Jimmy Carter,
Gerald Ford, or Richard Nixon. Just the Bill Clinton presidency. It is
highly ironic that the very liberal Mr.
Geffen has put all this front and center. It seems that Geffen is still jilted
by the fact that President Clinton failed to pardon Leonard Peltier, an American
Indian activist who was convicted and sent to jail for killing two FBI agents.
I’m speculating here, but the “ultimate” lie may have been that Clinton promised
Geffen a pardon for Peltier, reneged on the deal, and instead pardoned Marc
Rich, the currency manipulator and money launderer who is the husband of Clinton
pal Denise Rich, who is also a suspected Clinton paramour. The trigger for
Geffen’s Hillary insurrection, and the bile-filled remarks he served to Maureen
Dowd, may have been lingering resentment. Everyone’s attempting to call this
fight. Geffen, of course, is now solidly in the Obama camp, and he’s bringing
his rich Hollywood pals with him. As for Obama, his alleged sin is that he won’t
reprimand Geffen, as the Hillary camp demands. As a conservative with no skin in
this Democratic game, I’d have to
say the Geffen episode has bloodied Hillary’s nose much more than Obama’s.
Why? Because David Geffen, unwittingly or not, reminded voters of the moral
impoverishment and constant chicanery of the old Clinton White House. Do
voters really want to watch this low-grade C movie once more? I’ve always
believed that the Clinton White House past would be Hillary’s biggest problem in
the future. Now, suddenly, it’s been put into the campaign in startling
Hollywood Technicolor.

Subject: A View of Iraq

This is a long message from a soldier in Iraq . It is well written and details
his assessment of the situation there.
\

Following the article I sent about Bush's national address and troop increase, I
thought it was a good idea to let you all know what the perspective is over
here. I'm tired of hearing the media's skewed version, the politicians
squabbling over what they read in a report, and the average ill-informed
American ranting about things he knows NOTHING about.

I've been over here a couple of months now, and I've learned more about this
country than a year's worth of watching CNN. I've sat in mission briefs with
Colonels, talked with village elders, had tea with Shieks, played with the kids.
And I agree with the President. We need more troops and we need to take greater
action.

There are 3 major factions here. The Sunnis, Shiites, and Kurds. The Shiites are
in the majority, but Saddam was a Sunni, so he kept the Shiites in check.
Everyone hates the Kurds, who are Christian and in the vast minority. The Kurds
received the brunt of Saddam's murderous tyranny. Now that Saddam is gone, the
Shiites have taken control of Baghdad . The largely peaceful Sunnis are now the
victims of radical Shiite terrorism. So the young Sunni men, who can no longer
go to work and support their families, do what all young men would do. They join
the Sunni militia and battle the Shiites. And thus the country sits on the brink
of civil war.

But this war is between them. They largely do not concern themselves with the
U.S. troops. The insurgents who battle the Coalition Forces are from outside the
country. And the biggest problem down here isn't the insurgent Its the
politicians. The local politicians. Even though the country is controlled by
Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, downtown Baghdad is controlled by radical Shiite
cleric Muqtada al-Sadr. The Shiites follow Al-Sadr and thus the Prime Minister
does what Al-Sadr says. Think of it as if a warlord controlled New York and
blackmailed the President into diplomatic immunity.

When 1st Cav (mainly 2/5 Cav) came here in 2004, they took downtown Baghdad
(known as Sadr City ) by force. It cost many lives, but after a year, we held an
iron grip on the largest insurgent breeding ground in Iraq . The insurgents were
afraid of the Horse People, and rightfully so. But when 1st Cav left, Al-Sadr
influenced the Prime Minister to kick out the Coalition forces from that area of
Baghdad . He said the Iraqi military forces could hold the city. But all that
happened was Al-Sadr regained control of his city, and it is now a heavily
guarded fortress. A place where insurgents and terrorists can train and
stockpile arms. And we cannot go back in because the Prime Minister won't let
us. Our hands are tied.

So where does Al-Sadr get his backing? From Iran and Syria . Iran supplies him
with money and Syria supplies the terrorists. The insurgents that battle the
Coalition Forces are from Syria , Somalia and dozens of other places outside of
Iraq . Iraq is literally a terrorist breeding ground. They have terrorist and
sniper schools here. Why not? They train by teaching them to attack the military
forces here. And they have an endless supply of these training tools. They have
factories in Sadr City to build bombs. Both Iran and Syria have openly
proclaimed their number one goal in life is to destroy the great Western Devil
and the little Western Devil ( America and Britain ). Iran wants to control Iraq
to further this purpose. Al-Sadr will get to "run" the country and live like a
king, but in reality Iran will pull the puppet strings. Iran will have access to
thousands of radical Shiites who will do whatever Al-Sadr tells them to. And
Iraq will be used as a breeding ground for
  terrorism.
Terrorism that will be targeted directly at America and Britain . The Iraq Study
Group advised we should let Iran and Syria help with rebuilding? Bravo to
President Bush for striking that idea down and vowing to keep those two
countries out of Iraq .

So how do the Iraqi people feel about everything? Of course they don't want the
Americans here. But they would far rather have us here than the Iranians. My
platoon visited an average Sunni village on a patrol a few days ago. Their only
source of income was to farm, as they could not go to the city to work for fear
of violence. Many of the young men had already run off to join the militia for
no other reason than to feed their families. They had no school or hospital near
them and the community was dying. The village elder's granddaughter was very
sick and I was able to treat her. Afterwards he invited me and my Platoon Leader
to sit in his house and have tea with him, and we talked about the situation.

The people want peace. The Shiites kill the Sunnis because Al-Sadr tells them to
do so. The Sunnis fight back because they have no choice. They are glad Saddam
is dead (Sunni or not), but do not want to replace him with another dictator in
a politician's clothes (which is what Al-Sadr will become). And they especially
don't want Iran in charge. Many innocent Iraqis will die if this happens. These
are the words that came out of the elder's mouth:
"We do not want America here, and America does not want to be here. But you
cannot leave because the militias control the country. America must use the
might of its giant army and sweep through, root out and destroy the militias.
Then Iraq can be free and you can leave."

"What appears to have happened within our diplomatic community, is that Prime
Minister finally realizes that his days are numbered. If Al-Sadr remains, he
will be kicked to the curb. So hopefully he is about to allow us to re-enter
Sadr City , root out and destroy the enemy. A dramatic troop increase will allow
us to do this. And the Horse People are back and ready to finish what they
started over 2 years ago."

If we leave now, it will be a failure for democracy. Iran will control Iraq and
the end result will be more terrorist attacks on America . The American people
don't want soldiers dying over here, but its better than American civilians
dying over there. Do NOT forget 9/11. They will do it again. The moment we
loosen our grip on the noose, they will do it again. And the only way to root
out the evil here is to stop beating around the bush, increase troops and
destroy the insurgents once and for all. The Iraqi government cannot do this on
their own. The Iraqi security forces are inadequate for this task. We are the
only ones who can stop Al-Sadr.

Feel free to share this with whomever wants a real soldier's opinion about the
war.

garnering the most attention in camp is Pat Burrell. Can he do enough to make

GET THE BEST IN PHILLIES MERCHANDISE PHILLIES NEWS:
PHILLIES SIGN GEARY; AVOID ARBITRATION The Phillies signed RHP Geoff Geary to a
one year contract. Geary agreed to a contract worth $837,500. The team's most
efficient reliever in last year, who had a 2.96 ERA in 91 1/3 IP, asked for
$925,000 and was offered $750,000 in his first year of arbitration. In an
inflated off-season market, where pitchers have commanded a great deal more
than their worth, Geary's performance would have provided the potential set-up
man with considerably more than he received. Look for him to be a key part
of the Phillies bullpen again this season.

BURRELL SAYS HE'S READY Pat Burrell is one of the Phillies players who has
arrived in Clearwater ahead of schedule. Last season, Burrell hit .258 with
29 homers and 95 RBI. He also hit .222 with runners in scoring position,
something that his bosses feel has to change for the lineup to reach its
potential. This season, the veteran professes to be ready. Burrell has been
criticized for his off the field exploits as one of the reasons for a level of
play that management feels needs to improve. If Burrell can cut down on his
major league leading called third strikes, we might just see the real Pat
Burrell batting fifth for the Phillies.

LIEBER GOING DAY TO DAY Phillies RHP Jon Lieber arrived in Clearwater as one of
six Phillies starters, and the one most likely to be shipped elsewhere before
the April 2nd regular season opener. Lieber has been a very public source of
trade talks since the Phillies acquired LHP Freddy Garcia in December. For a
man who likes to keep a low profile, Lieber finds himself in the lime-light.
He says he is approaching the season in a day-to-day fashion. Lieber won 17
games in 2005, but he struggled last season, going 9-11 with a 4.93 ERA. The
Phillies do not consider him a viable option for the bullpen, so Lieber may be
the odd man out. He is a free-agent at the end of the year. Lieber said that
trade talks in July did affect his concentration. He'll make $7.5M this
season, the last year of a 3-year contract.

PHILLIES TO LOOK AT DOBBS New Phillies INF Greg Dobbs arrived in Clearwater on
Thursday. The team is looking for a left-handed hitter, and Phillies G.M. Pat
Gillick claimed him off waivers on January 16th. Dobbs is yet another player
Gillick has brought in from his stays with other clubs. Dobbs, 28, had a
productive year with AAA Tacoma in 2006, hitting .314 in 379 at- bats. He had
nine home runs. Dobbs hit .370 in 27 at-bats for Seattle. He has the ability
to put the ball in play, but is no upgrade over Chris Coste, who can also
catch. Dobbs can also play in the outfield, but the Phillies do not need his
services there.

COSTE WATCH - Week 1 Phillies INF/C Chris Cost was the Phillies feel good story
last season. Called up from AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre when Mike Lieberthal
went down to injuries, Coste probably could have started on a few other major
league teams. Coste was back in an uncomfortable but familiar position when
the Phillies signed catcher Rod Barajas in the off-season. Though he hit .328
and did performed well behind the plate, Coste is now the team's third
catcher, emergency corner man, and pinch-hitter. Though management felt the
need to add depth to the position, keeping Coste's bat out of the lineup could
cost the team, and what will happen if Chris Coste has a stronger spring than
Barajas? The Watch begins.

Setting A Luxurious New Standard For Philadelphia Hotels...

     PHIL-INS
Charlie Manuel said he doesn't plan to use closer Tom Gordon for more than
an inning at a time, and will try not to pitch him more than three straight
days. He also will try and limit the amount of times Gordon pitches in
non-save situations.
Pat Burrell may do less running in spring training, in an effort to help his
troublesome right foot.
Once again, the Phillies avoided arbitration hearings. Geoff Geary was the
Phillies final pending arbitration case.
Charlie Manuel said he told Jon Lieber that he saw him as a starter, meaning
that the veteran will likely not see any time in the bullpen.
Five pitchers appear to be locks for the bullpen: Tom Gordon, Antonio
Alfonseca, Geoff Geary, Ryan Madson, and Matt Smith.
The Cleveland Indians agreed to terms with former Phillies RHP Cliff Politte
on a minor league contract.
The Texas Rangers agreed to terms with former Phillies INF Desi Relaford on a
minor league contract.
After two weeks of working out, the Phillies will play an exhibition game at
Bright House Networks Field on February 28th against Florida State University.
They open the home portion of their Grapefruit League schedule on March 2nd
against the Indians.
All but two pitchers and catchers had physicals on time for spring workouts.
Righthander Freddy Garcia was one day late, and Rule 5 draftee Alfredo Simon
was delayed in the Dominican Republic with passport problems
The Phillies agreed to terms with LHP Fabio Castro, RHP Clay Condrey, LHP
Cole Hamels, RHP Alfredo Simon, INF Greg Dobbs, and OF Chris Roberson on
one-year contracts.
All pitcher and catchers were in camp on Thursday, although pitcher Alfredo
Simon couldn't participate because he hadn't completed his physical.
Phillies' new bench coach Jimy Williams stressed bunting to the pitchers.
The Phillies had the second-lowest total of sacrifice bunts in the National
League in 2006,
In a team meeting, pitching coach Rich Dubee stressed his desire for the
catchers to be more assertive in their game-calling.
Phillies RHP Scott Mathieson played catch from 60 feet in Florida, his
furthest distance yet. He threw 60 tosses and maintained that he's feeling
great in his rehabilitation from Tommy John elbow ligament replacement
surgery.
Ryan Howard posed for a photo shoot Friday afternoon for Philadelphia
magazine.
Antonio Alfonseca, Ryan Madson, and Geoff Geary are all competing to be the
team's new set-up man.
The Phillies don't plan to approach Freddy Garcia about a contract extension,
and Garcia has little intention of asking for one. Garcia is a free agent at
season's end. Considering that Garcia did have some shoulder issues last
year, the Phillies will certainly want to see how he performs before they
consider locking him up to a long term deal.
The Phillies have built this year's advertising campaign built around the
"Goosebumps" theme.
Phillies LF Pat Burrell ranked eighth in the National League last season
with 29 go-ahead RBI. Ryan Howard ranked second with 33.
Some Phillies front office people see Fabio Castro as a starter, but that
would require more seasoning at AAA Ottawa. Charlie Manuel would prefer to
see him fill the role of departed Aaron Fultz in the bull pen.
OF Jayson Werth may see some time during spring training at catcher and
first base
In 2005, Pat Burrell slugged 32 homers, collected 117 RBI, and batted .313
with runners in scoring position, but last season, he batted just .222 in such
situations.
Jamie Moyer has made 26 or more starts in every season since 1995 and has
216 career victories. Kyle Drabek, the Phillies' No. 1 pick in the 2006 draft,
is in big-league camp. Drabek negotiated an invititation as part of his
signing bonus.
For the first time since 1972, former Phillies trainer Jeff Cooper won't be
in Clearwater. Cooper retired at the end of last season. Steve Sheridan is
the new Phillies trainer.
The Phillies have offered Antonio Alfonseca the big-league minimum of
$380,000, which jumps to $700,000 if he makes the 25-man roster
Phillies pitchers ranked last in the National League in hitting last season
with an .092 batting average.
Former Phillies 1B Jim Thome on Opera....Here. QUOTE OF THE WEEK "It's
neat to have money, it's neat to have good looks, and it's neat to have broads
all over you, but there comes a time in every player's life when he needs to
get his act together." - Dallas Green on Pat Burrell PHILLIES DID YOU
KNOW? They won the NL East and the NL Pennant in 1993. Contrary to popular
opinion, the 1993 Phillies were not comprised of cliques. The most notable
allegiance was a section of the clubhouse dubbed by reporters as "Macho Row."
Players affectionately referred to the congregation of Darren Daulton, Lenny
Dykstra, Pete Incaviglia, John Kruk, Dave Hollins, and Mitch "Wild Thing"
Williams as "the Ghetto". They were the leaders appointed by manager Jim
Fregosi to keep everyone in line. Everyone got along on and off the field and
went out together after the game. The 1993 Phillies played 162 games during
the regular season. They won 97 games
and lost 65. They beat the Braves in six games to win the NL Pennant and
lost to the Blue Jays in six games in the World Series. Phillies Player

"America's Email".....HAPPINESS.....IS NOT INWARD AND NOT OUTWARD...AND SO IT
DOES NOT DEPEND ON WHAT WE HAVE.....BUT WHAT WE ARE..... ~ WELCOME To the
Saturday Feb 17, 2007 "Field of Dreams Today"..The Email that is glad this week
is over....This was a tough week...On Monday I tesified as a character witness
at a trial for a friend - YES CHARACTER witness..No comments please - Don't
think I really helped very much.....But I tried..Also I didn't know Virginia no
longer uses the Bible for swearing in....You still swear to God..They still say
"God Save the Commonwealth and this Court"..but no Bible..That really bothers
me.....Also as you know we are in the process of selling our 45 year old family
business...This has already been a difficult time after all these years..But it
got worse...From an original close date of Dec 15...we went to Jan 30...Feb
28..And now they want another month..So they asked for yet another inventory of
what comes with this 75 bed retirement
home....It was a stalling tactic but they should be careful what they ask
for.....They not only got every bed....piece of furniture....linens...pots and
pans and silverware..They got the exact number of Christmas ornaments.....amount
of salt in each salt shaker..number of potatoes..onions and other foods...brillo
pads....Comet..Clorox - Both name brand and generic - ..lawn decorations...rolls
of toilet paper...magazines....pens..pencils..paper clips..And much much
more......Don't screw with me on this stuff..If yu need more time..Just say I
need more time.......Once when my first boss at Airborne Express and I had a
disagreement I actually went and got an earring....She hated men with earrings -
Actually so did I but I love to prove points when nothing else works....
Lucklily it was far from Christmas and I had it out and my ear had regrown
before my Dad ever knew, when I went home...Same boss ..I told her everyday how
nice her hair looked......One day I once again told
her and added "Of course Mae I would have told you that if it looked
wretched".....She loved that story and still tells it....Mae and I are good
friends now I am glad to say...And than there was our old buddy "Red" my
Airborne Intl boss that words can't describe.....But that for another day.... ~
The movie "Love Story" was on HBO this morning...When it came oiut in 1972 -
Half of you were not born I know - but my grandmither and mother carried me
along to see it - I was 12..Well we were 5 minutes late...If you miss the first
5 minutes you don't know that Ryan O'Neal's wife dies...Very Very sad.... ~ Good
to see Whitney Houston has completed rehab and is making a comeback....The Bobby
Brown thing almost killed her...Liked that "Greatest Live of All" video from the
late 80's when MTV and VH1 played - SURPRISE Music Videos ~ DOES ANYONE Really
believe that Howard K Stearn is the real father of Anna Smith's baby...Or even a
real lawyer...... ~ Why has NBC become the most
extreme left wing newtwork on TV?? It may draw the libs but only 23 percent of
citizens consider themselves liberal.....Almost 40 Conservative....FOX will
always beat you....And FOX seems to be going back more to it's Center
Conservative ways - Outstanding!! ~ What's UP with NASCAR...All these fines for
stuff that has made NASCAR the fasting growing sport in the world?? The PR will
be good for ratings.... ~ Well the democrat House has told our troops that "why
bother" with the surge....Luckily in the Senate it will not get voted on this
day.....We - The GOP - do know how to be a effective minority party.....I would
prefer the majority but with the Senate 50-49 (Joihnson out) the liberals should
get little done - NOTE To My Senior Senator Warner - STOP with the
resolutions...So take a look below and see how your congressman voted....... :

"America's Email".....HOW MUCH SIMPLER OUR LIVES CAN BE....IF WE HAVE THE FAITH
TO ACCEPT WHAT HAPPENS...AS A GUIDEPOST ALONG A PATH THAT IS NATURALLY
CORRECT.... ~ WELCOME To The Saturday June 17, 2006 "Field of Dreams
Today"...The Email that is once again DAILY and glad to be back..The last few
months have been difficult and I thank all of you for your support..... ~
Today's Word "LAUD".....To give praise, to
glorify...Synonyms..Acclaim...Celebrate......~ I was talking with a good friend
yesterday about movies.....Mostly horror..But later I was thinking of movies
"based on a true story"...."A Perfect Storm"...What an action thriller....And it
is true until they reach the dock and sail..After that no one knows ANYTHING of
what happens...NADA...ZERO...That's OK it's only 90 percent of the movie...And
of course "Titanic"....Probably the most accurate account of the actual
events...Now the love story between "Rose" and "Jack" is a sad tale...."Jack"
saves her life like 5
times on the ship......Also she has at least 3 times to get on a lifeboat..But
no she promises to "NEVER LET GO"....So they survive the sinking and find a
floating door..."Rose" who is twice the size of "Jack" takes up the entire
floating lifesaver....And only minutes before his death she again promises to
NEVER let go....Minutes later she prys his icy cold dead fingers off the
floating door and saves herself...She goes on to live for 90 or more years while
"Jack" is the fish buffet.....So very sad......(For our new members I know that
the "Never let go" statement was the bond they had..And I know that she did not
weigh twice as much..And actually it's one of my all time favorite movies...I
like anything Titanic...I often think how the world would be different if all
those powerful people had lived.....But I like to pick at "Rose" from time to
time...... ~ THIS DAY In Sports History...JUNE 17,1980..The Peninsula Pilots had
just won the Carolina League VA Division 1st Half
Championship with a 51-19 record.....They went on to finish 100-40 beating the
storied Durham Bulls 3-0 to win the Carolina League Championship..The .714
winning pct is still the best in league history and no team Major or Minor has
matched it since...What a year ..Our parent team the Phillies won their only
ever World Championship..And Ronald Reagan beat Jimmy Carter..... ~ Todays Link
www.peninsulaprobaseballhalloffame.com ... ~THIS DAY IN HISTORY......1856 The
Republican Party opened it's first ever convention in Philadelphia.....1972 ...5
men were arrested in the Watergate breakin thus starting the scandal..And in
1994 OJ Simpson made the famous Bronco chase... ~ Today's Celenbrity
Birthday...BARYY MANILOW is 60..Man I feel old.... ~ And Now My God Sister
Sherrie Kirby..And yes Sherrie I am reading the emails..... .

"America's Patriot Email"..........WE GAIN STRENGTH...COURAGE AND CONFIDENCE BY
EVERY
EXPERIENCE IN WHICH WE REALLY STOP TO LOOK FEAR IN THE FACE....WHEN
WE ARE ABLE TO SAY TO OURSELVES "WE LIVED THROUGH THE HORROR" WE CAN
TAKE THE NEXT THING THAT COMES ALONG...STAND TALL...STAND
PROUD..~TODAY IS FLAG DAY..Everyone is asked to wear
the Red White and the Blue....~Finally I have attached an Email
with a Commentary by a Canadian TV Broadcaster about the USA...A very
nice thing from our close Friend - CANADA...PLEASE read this great commentary
Listen to what an
outside observer says about our GREAT COUNTRY...GOD BLESS THE
USA....:
America: The Good Neighbor.

Widespread but only partial news coverage was given recently to a
remarkable editorial broadcast from Toronto by Gordon Sinclair, a
Canadian
television commentator.

What follows is the full text of his trenchant remarks as printed
in the Congressional Record:

"This Canadian thinks it is time to speak up for the Americans as
the most generous and possibly the least appreciated people on all
the
earth."

Germany, Japan and, to a lesser extent, Britain and Italy were
lifted out of the debris of war by the Americans who poured in
billions of
dollars and forgave other billions in debts. None of these countries
is
today
paying even the interest on its remaining debts to the United States.

When France was in danger of collapsing in 1956, it was the
Americans who
propped it up, and their reward was to be insulted and swindled on
the streets of Paris. I was there. I saw it.

When earthquakes hit distant cities, it is the United States that
hurries
in to help. This spring, 59 American communities were flattened by
tornadoes.

Nobody helped.

The Marshall Plan and the Truman Policy pumped billions of dollars
into
discouraged countries. Now newspapers in those countries are writing
about
the decadent, warmongering Americans.

I'd like to see just one of those countries that is gloating over the
erosion of the United States dollar build its own airplane. Does any
other
country in the world have a plane to equal the Boeing Jumbo Jet, the
Lockheed
Tri-Star, or the Douglas DC10? If so, why don't they fly them?

Why do all the International lines except Russia fly American Planes?

Why does no other land on earth even consider putting a man or woman
on
the moon? You talk about Japanese technocracy, and you get radios.
You
talk about German technocracy, and you get automobiles.

You talk about American technocracy, and you find men on the moon-
not
once, but several times-and safely home again. You talk about
scandals,
and the Americans put theirs right in the store window for everybody
to
look at.

Even their draft-dodgers are not pursued and hounded. They are here
on our streets, and most of them, unless they are breaking Canadian
laws,
are getting American dollars from ma and pa at home to spend here.

When the railways of France, Germany and India were breaking down
through
age, it was the Americans who rebuilt them. When the Pennsylvania
Railroad
and the New York Central went broke, nobody loaned them an old
caboose.

Both are still broke.

I can name you 5,000 times when the Americans raced to the help of
other
people in trouble. Can you name me even one time when someone else
raced
to the Americans in trouble? I don't think there was outside help
even
during the San Francisco earthquake.

Our neighbors have faced it alone, and I'm one Canadian who is
damned tired
of hearing them get kicked around. They will come out of this thing
with
their flag high. And when they do, they are entitled to thumb their
nose at
the lands that are gloating over their present troubles. I hope
Canada is
not one of those."

Stand proud, America!

This is one of the best editorials that I have ever read regarding
the
United States. It is nice that one man realizes it. I only wish that
the
rest of the world would realize it. We are seem to be blamed for
everything,
and don't get a thank you for the things we do. I would hope that
each of
you would send this to as many people as you can and emphasize that
they
should send it to as many of their friends until this letter is sent
to
every person on the web. I am just a single American that has read
this, I

SURE HOPE THAT A LOT MORE READ

IT SOON.

Makes you proud to live here doesn't it??

OUTSTANDING!!! That's rthe Flag Day "Field of Dreams Today"..Be Safe..Be
Broud..And NEVER let go..."Sic Semper Tyrannis"....Let's Roll!!

AP Baseball Writer

Minor league baseball umpires voted Friday to authorize their first
strike since forming a union in 2000 and said Triple-A members would
not serve as fill-in major league umps until there is a contract.

The minor league umps, whose five-year labor deal expired in November,
had previously voted not to work spring training games. The decision
whether to strike will be made by the union's officers.

"Our goal all along has been to get a fair contract without a strike,
and we still hope that we can get it done," said Andy Roberts,
president of the Association of Minor League Umpires. "Our members
have told us loud and clear, however, that they're prepared to strike
if that's what it takes to get a fair contract."

The union represents about 220 umpires in 16 leagues. Management and
the union have not met since Jan. 31, when the Professional Baseball
Umpire Corporation made what the union termed management's final offer.

Triple-A umpires regularly work major league games during the regular
season, filling in for big league umps who are injured or on vacation.

"We have our regular crews. If somebody gets injured and they're
unwilling to work, we'll find somebody willing to work," said Rob
Manfred, Major League Baseball's executive vice president of labor
relations.

Pat O'Conner, chief operating officer of minor league baseball's
governing body, the National Association of Professional Baseball
Leagues, did not return a telephone call seeking comment.

Roberts, an umpire with the Triple-A International League, had said
the average salary for minor league umpires has remained unchanged for
a decade. It is about $15,000 at Triple-A, $12,000 at Double-A,
$10,000 in full-season A-ball and $5,500 in rookie leagues.

Umpires have asked for annual increases in a four-year contract.
O'Conner has refused to comment publicly on negotiations.
