Hi Bekki,

I will be there this Saturday. If I can be of help to you and the other ride leaders, let me know. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone!

Saturday's ride will start at Donlon School in Pleasanton.  The school

park.  The park is at Denker and Payne - just behind the school.  You
may park your car at the park and ride over to the parking lot of the
school on Dorman if you need to use the facilities before we ride.  I
have included the link to Yahoo maps below, so you can see the
proximity of things.  Just be ready to ride at 9am.  As you arrive,
please find me and sign the release form, get a map, ask questions,
etc. and we will split into riding levels before we leave. We need to
ride in groups of 30 or less, so as not to be a big nuisance on the
road. If you are unsure about your speed - you can go in a faster
group and if you cannot keep up the pace, you can drop back to the
next group coming behind us.  These rides are designed for road bikes,
so I encourage you to come with a road bike - If you can keep up with
the pace on fat tires - more power to you!!!  Please be courteous of
the neighbors when looking for a parking space, if the lots are filled.
Still hoping for dry weather - rain cancels.  Check for weather
updates on Friday night and I will post again early Saturday morning -
don't call my house looking for a weather report.  I have young
children and a husband who enjoy sleeping in on Saturdays!!
Just a few more reminders for ride day:
1.  Bring a bike in good working order
2.  Wear a helmet that fits properly
3.  Bring water and energy food
4.  Make sure you have Identification on you while riding
5.  Make sure you have a pump and spare tube(s) for flats
6.  Stop at all lights and stop signs - if the person(s) in front of
you runs a light or sign - use your own judgement if you want to
follow; the consequences could be tragic
7.  When someone in your group has a flat or problem and needs to
stop, everyone in the group stops.
These are just a few basics to follow that will make your ride more
enjoyable.  See you on Saturday.

Thanks, Bekki Livingston

Hi Ladies,

Just wanted to introduce myself and send out a warm welcome to
for y'all to come on out for the LUNA Chix Sunday Training Series,
starting February 5th at 11AM. Our first ride will leave from the North
Berkeley BART Station.

This woman-only series is oriented towards beginner/novices training for
a metric century, or for seasoned cyclists looking for a gentler-
paced ride
series to gear up for a new season (what off season? this lovely bay
area
weather means you can ride all year practically)! Have a friend who is
too intimidated to join you on your 18mph avg rides? Please promote this
ride series to her!

All Sunday rides are posted on the pedl pusher yahoo group calendar,
or for more information visit: http://www.lunachix.net/sunday.htm

All rides will be on roads very comparable to the terrain of the
Cinderella
Classic (including some roads on portions of the cinderella course).
This
is not a series for those looking for challenging hill workouts!

All rides start from BART stations, most of these stations have
plenty of parking
on sundays, or parking nearby.

Great to be part of this list! I look forward to meeting you on the
road!

Best,
Sarah

It is a minoura Super Megaturbo. It is an older model
and not the one that has been recalled. I'm willing
to sell it for $50. It has been sitting in my garage
for quite a while, and I would just like to get rid of
it.

Shari,  Hacienda can be pretty busy, my preference would be Willow.  It runs North/South, it is West of Hacienda and East of Hopyard (parallels Hopyard) and connects to West Las Positas.   Willow and Owens is the West entrance to the BART station on the South side of  I-580, i.e. Pleasanton side.  Take Willow Rd. to W LasPositas Rd. and turn Right then follow directions to the school.  Pat

you have a pump and spare tube(s) for flats 6.  Stop at all lights and
stop signs - if the person(s) in front of you runs a light or sign - use
your own judgement if you want to follow; the consequences could be
tragic 7.  When someone in your group has a flat or problem and needs to
stop, everyone in the group stops.
These are just a few basics to follow that will make your ride more
enjoyable.  See you on Saturday.

Thanks, Bekki Livingston

Saturday's ride will start at Donlon School in Pleasanton. The school
will not be open to us, but the school is located next to Val Vista
park. The park is at Denker and Payne - just behind the school. You
may park your car at the park and ride over to the parking lot of the
school on Dorman if you need to use the facilities before we ride. I
have included the link to Yahoo maps below, so you can see the proximity
of things. Just be ready to ride at 9am. As you arrive, please find me
and sign the release form, get a map, ask questions, etc. and we will
split into riding levels before we leave. We need to ride in groups of
30 or less, so as not to be a big nuisance on the road. If you are
unsure about your speed - you can go in a faster group and if you cannot
keep up the pace, you can drop back to the next group coming behind us.
These rides are designed for road bikes, so I encourage you to come with
a road bike - If you can keep up with the pace on fat tires - more power
to you!!! Please be courteous of the neighbors when looking for a
parking space, if the lots are filled.
Still hoping for dry weather - rain cancels. Check for weather updates
on Friday night and I will post again early Saturday morning - don't
call my house looking for a weather report. I have young children and a
husband who enjoy sleeping in on Saturdays!!
Just a few more reminders for ride day:
1. Bring a bike in good working order
2. Wear a helmet that fits properly
3. Bring water and energy food
4. Make sure you have Identification on you while riding 5. Make sure
you have a pump and spare tube(s) for flats 6.

I've heard good reviews on Kurt Kinetic, Cycleops and Blackburn.  I have one from Performance Bike, which does the job, but I don't expect it to hold up for too long.  I should have bitten the bullet and gotten a really good one from the get-go.  My bad.

Also meant to mention that I don't think there are varying degrees of trainers, just different types, i.e. magnetic, fluid, etc.  I have a magnetic trainer and it works just fine.

Do any of the staging areas have bathrooms to use before we set out, or are there places to stop along the way?  I'm trying to work on keeping myself hydrated, which of course necessitates quick a few trips.

Hi everyone,

Bekki and I are really pleased with the number of women signed up for the Cinderella Training Rides. And we want to accommodate everyone, from newbie to seasoned cyclist.

We’ve also taken into account the feedback we received following the kick-off ride on January 7th. Generally, those who attended that ride suggested future training rides go a little faster (in the 12-16mph range). But there was also a handful of ladies who definitely appreciated the slightly slower pace (in the 10-12mph range).

I mentioned in a previous email that we would start off the first two rides with an option for a slower pace and fewer miles, then pick up the pace and miles as we move forward in the series.

Once the pace and mileage (and in one or two cases climbing) picks up for the rides starting Feb 11th, we will have optional training rides on Sundays at 11am. Sarah will be the main point of contact for the Sunday rides, and you can contact her at sarah@... for more information.

Sarah will also add more specifics to the yahoo group calendar (http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/pedlpushers/cal) on mileage and where to meet.

Looking forward to see you all on Saturday!

Cindy

Spinning classes are very effective in motivating you to show up and
Keeping you spinning for a set amount of time. Some of us need the
discipline that it takes to show up for a class. Get to know your
body and what works and what doesn't. A proper warm up is a MUST.
Pushing hard gears is not the answer to everything. I would work in
easy gears and higher cadence first. I prefer my trainer in the
garage. I like my saddle on my bike and the fit is perfect - I don't
have to adjust anything. But I am older and stiffer - so I pamper my
body more now than I did when I was younger. Find some cycling
friends and do trainer work-outs together. Now is a good time to buy
a heart rate monitor and train in target zones.

I spinning class taught by a knowledgable insructor
can be a big help during the rainy season. However,
an instructor who really knows about cycling form and
training makes a big difference (as opposed to an
instructor who thinks spinning is like aerobics on a
stationary bike).

I do two or three spin classes during the week. I take
them at Club One in Oakland. Giselle, who teaches the
7:30 am and pm on Tuesday and Thursday is outdoor
rider who has spent a fair amount of time reveiwing
training techniques. She's great.

Personally, I think spin classes are wonderful. With the right instructor, you can learn proper form, cadence, and pedal stroke on the bike. Spin classes are also a great fallback during bad weather and the dark hours.

I’ve found Dennis from Club Renaissance in Walnut Creek to be a good instructor (challenging and thorough). If you’re not a member, you can get a one-day guest pass for about $10. the website is: http://www.clubsports.com/renaissance/ click on schedules, then click on group exercise for his class times.
