Reply | Forward Message #1199 of 1659 |
Please join the Lunachix this Sunday in the South Bay.

We'll ride to Morgan Hill and back, crossing over the Calero Reservoir and Chesbro Dam (pretty!)
It's about 40 miles and 1200 feet of climbing- very doable if you've recently ridden close to 30 miles.

Meet at the parking lot near Redmond and Meridian in San Jose

As before, we''l meet at 7:45, Ride at 8:00am

It may be very hot so BRING ENOUGH WATER!!!

I'll send a reminder on Friday or Saturday :)

Write down my number just in case you need to call: 925-788-1819

Cheers! Cindy

Important info:

Please obey all traffic laws. Remember that bicycles are vehicles, and bicyclists are expected to follow all traffic regulations. This means stopping at stop signs and red lights, using hand signals, and riding single file on the right side of the road. Bicyclists have the same rights and responsibilities as drivers (BUT cars weigh 4000 lbs!)

Don't forget your ID, insurance card, and emergency contact info. You'll also want a pump, patch kit, spare tube, tire levers, bike tools, food, water, and some cash.

PUMP YOUR TIRES - Look at your tire for the suggested PSI - Do this before EVERY ride

LUBE YOUR CHAIN – wipe down chain and lube it after every ride for best results. Use nail polish or permanent marker to mark where you begin. Then lube the chain's links and rollers one at a time.

Be Predictable in Traffic
    • Stay to the right of the road unless it is unsafe to do so
    • Stop at stop signs and red lights
    • Yield to pedestrians and vehicles as appropriate
    • Make eye contact with drivers
    • Ride in a straight line - don't weave between parked vehicles
    • Signal your turns and braking

Respect Group Ride Etiquette

    • Introduce yourself, welcome new cyclists, and offer assistance if needed
    • Be punctual - arrive with your gear and equipment and ready to ride
    • Use verbal or hand signals when slowing, stopping, turning or rolling
        - left arm straight out to signal a left turn
        - right arm straight out for a right turn
        - palm or fist behind your lower back to signal slowing or stopping
    • Be courteous
        - announce "On your left!" when passing cyclists. Pass *only* on the left
        - move to the right if a cyclist indicates they want to pass on your left
        - ride single file; two abreast if wide bike lane or very quiet street
        - indicate road hazards by pointing them out and/or by shouting
        - announce problems like open car doors, detrius on the roadway, etc.
Be Extra Cautious when the roads are wet
  • Oil and dust on the road will decrease traction
  • Painted lines, steel surfaces, bridges, and brick pathways will be slippery.
  • Slightly deflate (10psi) your tires to increase contact with the road
  • Always carry a spare tube; it is difficult to patch a leak in wet weather
