An East Bay Classic - Pig Farm and the Three Bears!
Come join the LUNA Chix Bay Area Cycling Team for a ride up Pig Farm and the Three Bears (approximately 30 miles) this Saturday July 7th. This route is geared towards women who feel comfortable riding 30 miles of long, rolling hills (be prepared to climb, but you'll also get great descents to enjoy the view!) The route will start at Lafayette BART, climb over Reliez Valley Road, continue on Alhambra over Pig Farm, over the Three Bears (into Orinda) and back via Glorietta. There will be beautiful views of the East Bay foothills and the San Pablo resorvoir (Terrain 4, Pace M). All of our rides are no drop.
Meet at the Lafayette BART station parking lot at 7:45 am, as the ride leaves promptly at 8:00 am. Rides will leave at the designated time to accommodate those who have other obligations following the ride. Please come early, sign in, grab some free lunabars, and get ready for a great ride!
What to Bring: Your ID, insurance card, and emergency contact info. You'll also want a pump, spare tube, tire levers, tools, patch kit, food, water, and cash just in case…Don't forget your shoes and helmet. Sign the waiver and provide an emergency contact. Route Sheets will be provided as well as LunaBars.
TERRAIN
1 - Essentially flat with a few easy grades, suitable for beginners and casual riders
2 - A few low hills, a challenge for beginners
3 - Moderately hilly, some challenge for the average rider
4 - Includes a few long or steep hills
5 - Very hilly, considerable climbing, for strong riders
PACE (Ride pace letters may be combined to show intermediate ratings)
L - Leisurely: easy pace, frequent stops, good for new riders (10-12 mph)
T - Touring: steady pace, fewer stops, for experienced riders (12-15 mph)
M - Moderately fast pace: for strong experienced riders (15-18 mph)
B - Brisk: very strong riders, few stops (18mph+)
All LUNA Chix rides are No Drop, which means that the group will wait at all regroups for slower riders to catch up. The leader may, however, suggest an alternative "bailout route" to riders unable to keep up with the published pace. If you have questions about the pace or terrain, please contact the Ride Leader in advance of the ride. Average mph means average ride speed for the entire ride excluding rest stops or regroups, under ideal conditions of dry roads, moderate temperatures, no precipitation, and no wind. For different terrain or conditions, the paces correspond to the same amount of effort by the same rider, and may therefore have different average speeds.
All LUNA Chix rides & events are for women only unless otherwise noted.
Participant Waiver: As standard with most clubs, all ride participants will be asked to sign a waiver of liability to participate in LUNA group rides. Riders must be 18 years or older.
Cancellation Policy: Listed rides are subject to change. Please check the calendar for updates. Heavy rain will cancel a ride. Please sign up for our email list to be notified of cancellation two hours prior to the scheduled start time.
Please obey all traffic laws. Remember that bicycles are vehicles, and bicyclists are expected to follow all traffic regulations. This means stopping at stop signs and red lights, using hand signals, and riding single file on the right side of the road. Bicyclists have the same rights and responsibilities as drivers (BUT cars weigh 4000 lbs!)
