Hill Climbing Series - Ride #2 - Mt. Diablo ride report
I had three strong and friendly women join me on Sunday. You already received Claire's report. Also joining me were Carolyn and Kandice. Good thing we got started soon after 8am because the mountain got really crowded by 11am. I've never seen so many hikers, bikers, and carpools of people. Wow! And the mountain wasn't lacking in testosterone inflated egos either <roll eyes>. The weather was wonderful once again. I was expecting cool temperatures but was quite comfortable in my shorts and short-sleeve jersey. I wasn't feeling up to climbing the wall at the very top but was happy to see that all three of my riding partners were up to the task. Our time up the mountain was just as I had planned and we were back in our cars by noon.

Next week we visit the Peninsula. I always love riding in Woodside because of the positive energy from so many cyclists on the road. If you've never ridden there, you are in for a pleasant cycling experience. And of course Page Mill Road is a definite must for anyone who loves climbing hills. Be ready for the 10% grades!
Please RSVP for either of the last two rides in this series. Here are the details:
June 10th - Page Mill/Old La Honda/84: 35 - 40 miles * 3,300' (route sheet provided - option to go up or down OLH)
- meet at Woodside Town Hall parking lot. Ride leaves at 8:00am.
June 17th - Alpine Dam/Mt. Tam: ~ 63 miles * 5,400' (route sheet provided)
- meet at Presidio Sports Basement entrance. Ride leaves at 8:00am.
**Riders must RSVP for each ride at least 24 hours in advance. Please RSVP to cindy (at) lunachix (dot) net
These rides will start promptly at 8am. Please arrive early with the
appropriate gear (e.g., your helmet), your bike ready to go (e.g.,
tires properly inflated), and sign the waiver sheet before 8:00am. If
you are running late, route sheets will be placed on the windshield of
the ride leader's car (usually a black VW Jetta).
Don't forget your ID, insurance card, and emergency contact info.
You'll also want a pump, patch kit, spare tube, tire levers, bike
tools, food, water, and some cash just in case…
*Dates, locations, and details are subject to change. Please RSVP for the latest update.
**These rides are appropriate for intermediate to advanced level cyclists. Novice riders are encouraged to try these hills on their own with a friend of similar ability.
