RE: [pccycling] Re: Time Trial 2009

Joe,

I was a member of the Emerald Coast Cyclist in the late 80’s and we did a once a month time trial on two courses, we would alternate the course and then have a club ride after the time trial.  It was great for seeing your progression, bragging rights, etc.  I think this would be a great addition to our weekly rides and maybe we could substitute one of the Tuesday or Thursday rides every month or add a Wednesday night TT.  I like the idea of Steam plant during the week and the Knox hill ride on the weekend.

I also talked to Scott Ewing and Craig Baranowski, as well as Steve at the bike shop about possibly putting on a points race this fall, we could do two to three laps of Knox hill with set sprint points. I plan on contacting the Emerald Coast Cyclist to see if they would be interested in participating (we also did this in the 80’s early 90’s).

As for yesterday I could not have pulled it off without the volunteers, as usual Carol Taylor stepped up to head the volunteers, I have done the time trial for at least the last 4-5 years and she has always been there.  Sharon and John Mihalik also came out and John rode out to the turn around and gave us a new time with the ½ way splits.  Dave Jennings was also there and I believe on other lady that I did not get the name of before she left.  As you know we could not have any of the events we do without these volunteers so thank you all.

Please let me know if I can be of any help.

Dave Shaw

For those of us out town for the July 5th event, I am thinking about scheduling a monthly time trial series similar to what the Emerald Coast Cyclists have done and other cycling clubs. The idea would be to use the same course so riders can measure their improvement over the span of 2-3 months. Probably be either once or twice a month would also be during the week rather than on a weekend. There are so many rides now, scheduling it becomes an issue. It could be set-up as a series so that overall winners would have to complete at least three of them to eligible for any type of overall awards handed out. If you think this would work, let me know. Last year I scheduled the Knox Hill Time Trial with a ride up and back from Bruce. We could throw that into the series too. Possible days…Monday, Wednesday or Thursday afternoon on Steam Plant Road. Weekend for the Knox Hill TT.  I’ll set-up a schedule and seek sponsors for some small awards! BoBo contributed last year. (hint, hint) These type of events are great for all …builds camaraderie, good explanations to buy new gear to spouses, bragging rights, development as a “complete” athlete!

Sounds like the event went very well and with some good volunteers to assist which is always appreciated.

Joe
