Back from this afternoon's 2:30 practice (and trip to Bass Pro Shop with the boys).  It was jam packed today which I totally expected. In fact, it was the most crowded day of camp thus far this season.  Of course, there were some calls of "Happy Birthday, Brady"  and some singing going on throughout practice in honor of #12's special day but it seems as though the Brady Ladies have calmed down over the years as there's not nearly as many shrieks from love struck teens in the stands.

  • Guys were in full pads and there were some new faces on the field due to movement from the PUP list. Welker, Hobbs, Redd, Ruud, Wendell saw their first public practices. Clement went to IR and Barry Stokes was on the field wearing 75 white.
  • No sign of Rodney Harrison today (who may be taking a vet rest day) and still no Matt Light. I also didn't see Kyle Eckel or James Sanders.  David Thomas is back after missing a few practices.
  • Matthew Slater (who has been doing lots of work on Kick Returns) was wearing a blue defensive jersey today. He drew some loud "ahhhhs" from the crowd blowing by Meriweather on a return early in practice.
  • Middle linebackers faced off against Running Backs in the one on one passing drill (with Brady as QB) in the closest field to the stands. Overall, offense had the upper hand.
  • Ty Warren took a lap for jumping.
  • Adalius Thomas picked Cassell off a tipped ball from Heath Evans. He then lateraled to Spann who took downfield.
  • Meriweather made a great diving play in the corner endzone but I couldn't see the intended receiver.
  • Vince Redd #47 is 6'6" and looks more like a DL than a LB.
  • Ray Ventrone had a couple of catches in a row his new role as a WR.  In the first, he made the catch and dragged his feet at the sideline to keep it inbounds. In the second, the coverage was definitely blown though as he was all alone on the sideline and took off with it.
  • Terrence Wheately picked off an underthrown Cassell pass intended for Randy Moss.  But in the red zone work, Brady hit Moss for a TD at the post.
  • Mike Richardson picked one off intended for Kelley Washington. It was a thing of beauty!
  • During situational work, they started with 45 seconds on the clock and tried to get within fieldgoal range. Unfortunately, the clock ran out before Brady and Co. could come through. They moved it all the way down field but failed to spike it in time.
  • TE's Watson and Thomas looked good while Chad Jackson had a very quiet night.
  • Mayo got into a mini scuffle but I couldn't see who he was getting into it with as the other guys surrounded the pair. It was more a reflection of flaring tempers and it didn't escalate past that.
  • They practiced some desperation drills with lateraling and situational special teams stuff. They practiced getting FG unit on the field in time, etc.
  • During FG's #3 missed two, one which was way off.
  • At the end of practice, BB had they entire squad line up in two rows to run 10 yard wind sprints from a 3 point stance. He reminded them to just listen for  the whistle and a couple of times, guys started when he yelled "GO!" Everyone had to go back and repeat that rep. He also "reminded" some  that they weren't low enough and yelled at them to get down.
  • Linebackers signed after practice as did the Birthday Boy.

Tomorrow morning's session is 8:45-10:30 in the practice fields then there's a Season Ticket Holder/Foxboro resident practice inside Gillette Stadium from 6:30-8:30.

Big Al and Jake came with me tonight so there may be pictures posted later. :-)

I'm looking for some information on the web site officialelimanning.com.
A friend told me about it, but it does not have much, and says it's
for sale. Might be cool to have the official Eli Manning web site.

If you really want to know more about either site you could just visit there and not post it here.  While we are always happy to share Patriots related information on this site we frown on it when it is advertisement for the purpose of advertising and not discussing our Pats.  You’ve gotten off to a bad start here I’m afraid as this is your first post and it comes across as spam.  If you are here just to push websites then you should look elsewhere as this is not what this list is about.  If you are here to share all things Patriots and not spam the group then welcome.

Just in from this morning's session with Big Al. It was a beautiful, breezy day on the hill and was one of the least crowded days thus far. The VIP section was jammed with people on a Reebok promotion but the hill and stands were practically empty.

  • Guys were once again in full pads but big name vets Brady, Bruschi, Harrison, Seymour, Moss, etc were not on the field today.
  • When I got there, they were watering down the back corner "Slip-n-Slide" area and rookies practiced recovering footballs in pool of muddy water.
  • In Brady's absence, Cassell was with the first team today and Gutierrez and O'Connell subbed in.
  • O'Connell and Ryan Wendell fumbled a snap (recovered by BenJarvus Green-Ellis) and took a lap, however the QB did a 1/2 loop while the C took in the perimeter of both fields.
  • Belichick's fashion statement for this year is cut-off grey sweats rolled just above the knee (with an inside out grey sweatshirt when it's really hot!) He was sporting the one-up-one-down look for a good portion of practice (Can you tell I'm getting silly coming up on the 16th session?.. hehe!)
  • Bubba Ventrone had a very active day and came up with some good catches once again. In a related note, it's ironic that the former Safety is now playing offense as a WR and WR Slater is now being used primarily as a DB when not doing KR duties. BB at his best..
  • Hit of the day was big man Vince Redd on Heath Evans during tackling drills.
  • DBs had the better day today during drills with Tank Williams, Jonathan Wilhite, and Fernando Bryant breaking up passes in the corner endzones.
  • There was a lot of  heavy hitting goal line work and running of specific plays today. Cassell hit Sam Aiken at the post in traffic for a TD, Maroney was stopped, Jordan was stopped on one but later got past Crable, Pollard and BJG-E scored as well.
  • Special Teamers signed today and Maroney and BB went over to the Reebok crowd and were in the center of the big group while cameras were rolling. They stayed and signed for them for quite awhile.

Tonight's STH practice inside Gillette is at 6:30 and I'll likely be attending alone. As usual, I'm officially "off duty" for that one since there are lots and lots of eyes reporting from camp and I just like to relax for at least one practice.

They've finally released the schedule for tomorrow 8/5, and it's a single 2:30-4:30 session. With the game on Thursday, that will likely be it until the weekend as the day before is usually a closed session and guys get the day off after the game.

New pictures will be uploaded this afternoon after I do the Cinderella thing around here.

Hey Barry,
The group that you mentioned here...I'm guessing it's Orange County, CA?? If so, can you give me the link to join?
I live in La Habra, up in the far north of Orange County and sure would like to join in with some fans that gather in this area.

Hey all,

My first practice ... sat in 105 with the Offense. No Pollard, Harrison or
James Sanders as well as the PUP guys.

- Wes Welker owned the practice. He left several DB in their tracks. He
particularly abused Mike Richardson. The only DB that stayed with him was
Wilhite (I was impressed with him).

- Slater took a KO return for a TD. Juked Gostkowski out of his shorts

- Connolly on 1st KO return as well as Izzo.

- Guyton played same position as Izzo on the 2nd KO team and interior of Punt
coverage team. Aikem was the blocking back on the Punt coverage.

- Hanson shanked at least 3 punts ... cause for concern!

- Alexander had two Int's, one was a tip that landed in his lap.

- Guyton was not out there in the 7 on 7 drills. Which leads me to believe
that he is a 1st or 2nd down guy and not a coverage ILB.

- 11 on 11 simulation of a 2 minute drill had Mayo and Tank ILB. Mayo is damn
quick and his reactions are terrific. He can cover a back out of the backfield.
He made a good play while trailing TE Thomas down the middle. Thomas got one
hand on the ball and Mayo drilled him. Later Watson beat him down the seam but
dropped a sure TD.

- Aiken's size and receiving ability are impressive. Chad Jackson may be in
trouble. He was on the 2nd KO team as the deep back and also fielded some
punts, but was not impressive.

- On one play we had four rookies at LB Redd and Crable OLB and Mayo and Guyton
ILB's. Crable has incredibly skinny lower legs, but he was able to hold the
edge and force a run inside.

- Near the end of practice, Wilhite came up lame after a breakup of a pass to
Welker in the endzone. Jordan also was hobbling after a run, but stuck it out
and contniued to play.

- Defense had a coverage sack of Brady, none of the other three QB's were
impressive. O'Connell was especially brutal.

- Did I mention Randy Moss? I failed to mention him! He made a great catch
for a TD and another highlight catch on the far sideline keeping both feet
inbound.

- New #69 must be reclimation project Welbourn (G/T) KC Chiefs. No Light or
O'Callahan at either practices. Cause for concern on the OL? 1st team was
Kaczur LT, Mankins LG, Koppen C, Yates RG, Britt RT.

- No Eckel, Webster tonight either

well thats all folks ...

He is going to be a monster inside the 20.  He is running hard, and catching the ball well out of the backfield.  He'll get those tough yards that we haven't seen in a while.  He looked good tonight.  Tweaked a hamstring a bit, coming up a little gingerly after a run but stretched out and stayed out and continued to practice.

Interesting comment, Mark. As soon as we signed Jordan, I began to wonder how he and Morris will be used. It sounds like Morris may be the #2 guy between the 20's; with Jordan getting that job inside the 20. Morris can catch the ball, but isn't as good a receiver as Jordan; and isn't as quick. Both of those qualities are really critical in the RZ. This is a very impressive backfield right now, in terms of depth and versatility.

I'm in heaven with all those rookie LBs in camp. I wish I could see pre-season games here; but I won't get anything until the season begins. ... I just realized that I have to check for 'streaming' on PS games. There may be some available.

***** Jordan is listed as 30, entering his 8th season. That's not young for a RB; but it's not past retirement age either. He should have a couple of good years left, as long as he isn't "the man", getting 25-30 carries per game. That will not be the case here. So,  based upon what I've read about his performance in camp thus far, he should be able to help us this year.

Home from the final public camp practice of the week and need to get this one out quickly as I've got to head out to help the inlaws with something.

  • Guys were in full pads once again, although lots of the plays were run at half speed with no hitting.
  • Vrabel was back on the field having missed most of camp due to being on PUP.
  • Brady, Moss, Washington, Sanders, Webster, Richardson, Harrison, Eckle, and the PUPs were not on the field today. Hmmm... wondering what's up with Rodney...   :(
  • Bruschi and Mayo were like glue on the sidelines all day.
  • Punter Chris Hanson was the recipient of "Go #6!" chants from a group of camp kids at the beginning of practice as he was warming up right near them. Perhaps it was his good luck charm as he did a lot of punting today and dropped two nice and close to the goal line at the end of practice.
  • Slater, Spann, Jordan, Jones returned kicks.
  • A couple of near picks for DBs today as Wheatley got his fingertips on one above his head intended for Gaffney in corner of the  EZ.  Fernando Bryant tipped one intended for Dunlap in the other EZ and Antwan Spann intercepted a Gutierrez ball in traffic. After the pick Spann and Meriweather were impersonating fencers in  "En garde!" motions in good fun.
  • In what would have been the "ahhhh!" moment of the day, Welker and Slater both went up for a long Cassell bomb with neither one coming up with it.
  • Ventrone had a nice grab on offense and also donned a blue pinney to help out in the backfield on D.
  • Things were slow going as they spent lots of time running through plays for Thursday's game and practicing situational football. Glad there are a few days off as this old bod is starting to protest sitting idly on the hill and my back is starting to act up.
  • Towards the end of practice, they kicked field goals into the wind at the opposite endzone.
  • Wide Receivers signed today.
  • In one of the athletic feats of the day, Kristina Akra of Patriots Today successfully made her way down a slippery grass slope to the field in her high shoes. :-)  (Told you it was a slow news day!)

Reminder:  No public camp until Monday, August 11th at 8:45AM.

Go Pats!!

I see Tank as strictly a special teams player, down and distance ILB in obvious
passing situations. Hobson is a lot smaller than I thought he was. He will be
in a rotation with Bruschi. Looks like Mayo is going to be an every down ILB.
He made a play on a swing pass to Faulk. I thought Faulk would have the corner
easily. Mayo takes the proper angle and flys outside. It would have been a
tackle for loss if they allowed full contact.

Goodell Implements New Fan Code Of Conduct

Source: Associated Press, Sportsline.com

On Tuesday the NFL announced a new code of fan conduct for attendees to NFL games that aims to reduce behavior that 'detracts from the gameday experience.' The code includes bans on unruly behavior, drunkeness, foul language, and game interference.'

The other item was that he is urging a move to transfer at least one, possibly two games from pre-season to regular season games.

Two in a row! Does this make me a traitor to our Patriots?

Hi. I'm new here. And I think these two items from the commissioner are great additions. I hate when you bring kids to any professional sports event and there is foul language all around. Predictably, too much drinking is also involved.

They can all tell you that I pretty much match anybody "beer-for-beer" in day before parties, and post game tailgates. But I NEVER drink before or during a Patriots game! I even follow the same rule when I'm home watching a game alone (with the slight modification that I do pop open a beer when a game is truly locked up, late in the 4th quarter - not often for our "heart attack" Pats!).

(But, yeah, there are definitely some late tailgate moments that are a bit cloudy for me!) :-)

Hi. I am happy to hear that something is finally being done in order to do something with worthless preseason games. Although it is important for the coaching staff to evaluate the team it is unfair that a fan should have to pay full price for "practice" games. For me I am a die hard Pats fan and any chance I get to see any of the players take the field is great but for a casual fan who just wants to take their kids to see a game  they want to see the starters play not a rookie trying to make the grade. With more regular season games it would provide fans more chances to see their favorite players play the whole game not just the a series or two and would provide more excitement and competition later on into the season.

As far as the booze rule is concerned. I doubt it will have any effect and if it does it will be minimal. Selling alcohol at games is about making money. The more people drink the more money is being made. Cutting people off that are already drunk will have a minimal effect on wallets and the fan experience. I think they should have some sort of a cut off system where the limit is say four you work your way up to four stamps and then your done. That would certainly help but will unlikely happen because of the money issue.

About the drinking... I have certainly done my fair share of drinking before, during and after the games.  And I do consider myself a "true fan" but with that said as I grow older I don't drink as much.  But I honestly don't think the issue of drinking during the games will help because most people drink so much before they even get into the stadium that drinking during the game really doesn't matter.  I know the men that sit behind me are usually so drunk by the time they get into the game that they barely see any of the game.  I am not sure it will make much difference with the new rule, but time will tell.
Just my opinion...

Curbing drinking during the game would likely have little effect on drunkenness as the worst offenders are already hot from the tailgate when they enter the stadium.  It may help with a few of the problem people but not many of the unruly fans which fortunately in Foxboro are few these days.  The Krafts have certainly done a lot to change the image of not only the stadium but the fans as well, success can do that.  For those teams for whom success on the field is not so important, or for whom it will take time to see the results of their rebuilding, having the NFL recognize problems and create a policy and enforcement of the policy is a good move for the league and the fans.  That said drinking is not evil and those who do are not defacto bad people.  Alcohol doesn’t make people bad but it can help some people to amplify their character flaws in unpleasant ways.  It is possible to drink and not utter foul language that would make a sailor blush.  It is possible to drink and be amiable and even out right friendly, possibly too friendly.  It is even possible to drink and remember what you did and saw the next day.  However drinking to excess can make even a person with good character look considerably foolish and embarrassing.  But if there were rules against acting foolish and being an embarrassment what would we do with most of the “Superfans”?  In case my point was lost in all this gibberish it’s ban the behavior and not the poor excuse, drinking.  I’d hate to not have a sip of cold beer to soothe my throat in between yelling when my defense is on the field.

I want to know when they are going to ban the people who sit completely silent when my defense is on the field; even the drunks make some noise up until they pass out. J

I just hope that this season security tosses loud, foul-mouthed fans (drunk or otherwise) the hell out of the stadium posthaste. No parent should have to sit there with his or her kids and endure such behavior while trying to enjoy the game.

Are you ready for some football .... ok its pre-season, it doesn't mean a thing
unless you are fighting for that 53rd spot on the roster...

I will be bringing 6 family and friends to the game and will be tailgating in
P2. I will be at Dunkin Donuts (just north of the stadium at North St) at 3:15.
My plan is to get into the cue at 3:25 and we should have no problem getting
into P2 (regular season may be a different story). Who is going to the
preseason game?

No Zip, No Monty, No Darren, No Laureen, No Vincent, ... Karen's coming late
(try and meet us in P2).

Call me at 978-866-3580 if you are trying to find us!!!

Toss fans for being loud?  Are you serious?  Are you one of the bumps on a log or did I miss take your comments?  It’s football man if you don’t like it loud find another sport like basketball or baseball better golf you’ll find plenty of quite fans with those sports.  Foul mouthed is another matter, I don’t support that who could?

***** Well, that's interesting. I'm not sure how I feel about that. As old as he is, his is, IMO, still a better QB than Pennington. On the other hand, the one thing that Pennington doesn't do often, is take chances that lead to INTs. Favre, on the other hand .....

***** So are we better off with Favre as the Jets' QB? Or would we have been better off with "Noodle Arm"?
