After seeing tonights game I am convinced this will be
the final roster. Look for a couple of veteran
players to be traded or let go this week so they can
hook on with other teams (Reche Caldwell and Chad
Brown).

I also think they may need to bring in a kicker or two
just in case Gostkowski's FG problems continue.

Offense 25

QBs = 3 Tom Brady, Matt Cassel, Vinny Testaverde
RBs = 3 Laurence Maroney, Kevin Faulk, Sammy Morris,
FBs = 1 Heath Evans
WRs = 6 Randy Moss, Donte' Stallworth, Wes Welker,
Jabar Gaffney, Kelley Washington, Bam Childress,
TEs = 3 Ben Watson, David Thomas, Kyle Brady,
Marcellus Rivers
OTs = 4 Matt Light, Nick Kaczur, Ryan O'Callaghan,
Wesley Britt,
OGs = 4 Logan Mankins, Stephen Neal, Billy Yates,
Russ Hochstein,
Cs = 1 Dan Koppen

Defense 24

DEs = 3 Richard Seymour, Ty Warren, Jarvis Green
NTs = 3 Vince Wilfork, Mike Wright, Le Kevin Smith
OLBs = 4 Adalius Thomas, Rosevelt Colvin, Pierre
Woods, Justin Rogers
ILBs = 4 Mike Vrabel, Tedy Bruschi, Eric Alexander,
Junior Seau
CBs = 5 Asante Samuel, Ellis Hobbs, Randall Gay, Mike
Richardson, Dante Wesley
Ss = 5 Rodney Harrison, Eugene Wilson, Brandon
Meriweather, James Sanders, Willie Andrews

Special Teams 4

STs = 4 Larry Izzo, Stephen Gostkowski, Danny Baugher,
Lonie Paxton,

IR - Chad Scott,

PUP – 5 - Chad Jackson, Troy Brown, Richard Seymour,
Dave Thomas, Eddie Jackson

Except for the fact that you have listed 54 players, I like your choices.

***** I just saw this in Reece's post-game blog:

"After the game, Richardson was in the locker room with his left arm in a
sling and his left thumb wrapped. He declined comment when approached by the
media."
***** From what I heard and read, the kid had looked pretty good out there,
getting work with the first team. Although Reece did note that the was "the
closest player" in coverage on the 48-yard bomb to Colbert near the end of
the first half. I hope he's OK, for his sake and ours. He appears to be a
hard working kid, very much in the Patriots mold. As I noted earlier today,
I'd love to see a youngster come along at CB for us. Of course, there's
still a chance that Gay will continue to develop; but another young guy
behind him and Hobbs would be nice.

Hello all,

A fairly stalwart crew of roughly ten folks did all the work to ensure that much Bruschi Brew goodness would be available in two weeks, in time for opening day.  That said those still wishing to join in for bottling and perhaps pick up a bit are welcome to do such by joining us for the Bottling at 3:00 pm on Saturday, September 8 at incredibrew in Nashua, NH.  (www.incredibrew.com)

Many of the crew will likely take our Beers, rootbeer and Patriotic fervor out to feast on that evening as we prepare for the opening of the season on the Jets the following day.

Anyone wishing some of the Brew may contact me to make requests if they are not present at bottling but priority of choices will go to those present for Brewing and/or bottling.  Others may collect it the next day at the opening of the season when I host many folks at my home.

I already have some requests and some replies for bottling - I hope we have many more to savor the experience and a tasty brew or two...

Go Pats!

Hey there - I enjoy the links to worthwhile articles but if folks could give us a little detail on the article it wouldhelp keep things more clear.

I'm personally glad that Assante is back and hope he quickly makes the team stronger as I suspect.  This may be particularly good timing since if Wilson's injury is serious we may need Merriweather to switch back to safety.

I do feel good about Samuels, Hobbs and Gay -- but the depth after that isn't so encouraging...

Hello everyone,

A list member handled a fairly ugly situation very well but unfortunately due to a distant acquaintence of his, Monty and I lost access to four tickets for every game which we had helped  distribute to friends throughout the season.

We are trying to again acquire four tickets (not necessarily together) for as many games as possible since our friends who thought they had seats then missed the single game sales.  If any of you have access to such over the course of the season please do keep us in mind and email us privately as there is a very high interest in helping out the folks left stranded.

Thanks very much and Go Pats!

I think that when Seymour held out he started a trend of players thinking that was a solid method of handling the Patriots if necessary.  I think Branch expanded this approach and finally I think there is a case that leads players to think carefully about this practice.

I certainly support a player to play for whatever they can get and to use the system to their advantage though I'll appreciate players who can appreciate value to the entire atmosphere in Foxboro and give that some value in their negotiations.  The fact is the Pats do pay some players pretty well but no doubt we have a value and don't deviate from that even if other places would pay a player more.

Assante is more of a mercenary in the seeming than he was one year ago and will potentially have a tougher time presenting his bonds and commitment to his teamates but if he plays well that's all anyone will care about and next year the franchise tender is worth more and he may have a better bargaining point for negotiations with the Pats directly.  Meanwhile I have no worries that he'll have trouble feeding his family at 7+ Million per year.  He made the right choice to shopw up and collect his checks now let's hope the one year term entices him to work and play hard (and well).

This has nothing to do with the Patriots but I just wanted to know if there is anyone else on the list that is making the pilgrimage to phlock at the altar of Parrothead this weekend?  I myself intend to make a good showing of a tailgate in the usual lot with the new name.  I have heard a rumor from someone who represents him self as a parking lot attendant that they are reporting for duty at 8 AM.  The ticket office will tell you the parking lot opens at 3:30 PM.  This self-described inside source said that if the State Police believe Rt. 1 to be too congested from fans jockeying for the parking lots that they will force the lots to be opened early and that they expect to open the lots very early.

These are really funny. ... Well, they're funny to me. Some of you older folks might find them a bit painful!

George
Dogs have masters ... Cats have staff!

An elderly gentleman...

Had serious hearing problems for a number of years.  He went to the doctor and the doctor was able to have him fitted for a set of hearing aids that allowed the gentleman to hear 100%

The elderly gentleman went back in a month to the doctor and the doctor said, "Your hearing is perfect. Your family must be really pleased that you can hear again."

The gentleman replied, "Oh, I haven't told my family yet.  I just sit around and listen to the conversations.  I've changed my will three times!"

Two elderly gentlemen from a retirement center were sitting on a bench under a tree when one turns to the other and says:

"Slim, I'm 83 years old now and I'm just full of aches and pains.  I know you're about my age.  How do you feel?"

Slim says, "I feel just like a newborn baby."

"Really!? Like a newborn baby!?"

"Yep. No hair, no teeth, and I think I just wet my pants."

An elderly couple had dinner at another couple's house, and after eating, the wives left the table and went into the kitchen.

The two gentlemen were talking, and one said, "Last night we went out to a new restaurant and it was really great.  I would recommend it very highly."

The other man said, "What is the name of the restaurant?"

The first man thought and thought and finally said, "What is the name of that flower you give to someone you love?  You know... The one that's red and has thorns."

"Do you mean a rose?"

"Yes, that's the one," replied the man. He then turned towards the kitchen and yelled, "Rose, what's the name of that restaurant we went to last night?"

Hospital regulations require a wheel chair for patients being discharged. However, while working as a student nurse, I found one elderly gentleman already dressed and sitting on the bed with a suitcase at his feet, who insisted he!   Didn't need my help to leave the hospital.

After a chat about rules being rules, he reluctantly let me wheel him to the elevator.  On the way down I asked him if his wife was meeting him.

"I don't know," he said. "She's still upstairs in the bathroom changing out of her hospital gown."

Couple in their nineties are both having problems remembering things. During a checkup, the doctor tells them that they're physically okay, but they might want to start writing things down to help them remember

Later that night, while watching TV, the old man gets up from his chair. "Want anything while I'm in the kitchen?" he asks.

"Will you get me a bowl of ice cream?"
"Sure."

"Don't you think you should write it down so you can remember it?" she asks.

"No, I can remember it."

"Well, I'd like some strawberries on top, too.  Maybe you should write it down, so's not to forget it?"

He says, "I can remember that.  You want a bowl of ice cream with strawberries."

"I'd also like whipped cream.  I'm certain you'll forget that, write it down?" she asks.

Irritated, he says, "I don't need to write it down, I can remember it!  Ice cream with strawberries and whipped cream - I got it, for goodness sake!"

Then he toddles into the kitchen. After about 20 minutes, The old man returns from the kitchen and hands his wife a plate of bacon and eggs.

She stares at the plate for a moment.

"Where's my toast ?"

A senior citizen said to his eighty-year old buddy:

"So I hear you're getting married?"

"Yep!"

"Do I know her?"

"Nope!"

"This woman, is she good looking?"

"Not really."

"Is she a good cook?"

"Naw, she can't cook too well."

"Does she have lots of money?"

"Nope! Poor as a church mouse."

"Well, then, is she good in bed?"

"I don't know."

"Why in the world do you want to marry her then?"

"Because she can still drive!"

Three old guys are out walking.

First one says, "Windy, isn't it?"

Second one says, "No, it's Thursday!"

Third one says, "So am I. Let's go get a beer."

A man was telling his neighbor, "I just bought a new hearing aid.   It cost me four thousand dollars, but it's state of the art.  It's perfect."

"Really," answered the neighbor . "What kind is it?"

"
Twelve thirty."

Morris, an 82 year-old man, went to the doctor to get a physical.  A few days later, the doctor saw Morris walking down the street with a gorgeous young woman on his arm.

A couple of days later, the doctor spoke to Morris and said, "You're really doing great, aren't you?"

Morris replied, "Just doing what you said, Doc: 'Get a hot mamma and be cheerful.'"

The doctor said, "I didn't say that. I said, 'You've got a heart murmur; be careful."

One more. . .!

A little old man shuffled slowly into an ice cream parlor and pulled himself slowly, painfully, up onto a stool..

After catching his breath, he ordered a banana split.

The waitress asked kindly, "Crushed nuts?"

"No," he replied, "Arthritis."

***** After his performance throughout this pre-season, Childress would be a
VERY tough cut. I have never included him in the group of 6 WRs that I think
they will keep on the 53-man opening roster. But, after yet another very
good performance today, I just don't see how we can cut this gutsy little
guy. He so much reminds me of Troy in his early years.

***** So, if he makes it to the opening day roster, what's the WR six pack?
I'd have to go with: Moss, Stallworth, Welker, Gaffney, Caldwell, Childress.
Trade Washington for something, if possible.

***** Don't ask me what we do when the decision has to be made on the PUP
guys, Brown and Jackson. Obviously, injuries could answer the questions, but
we all hope it doesn't come to that. If not injuries, it will come down to
the performance of the six pack, with the last 3 obviously the guys at risk.
That, plus what the coaches see from Brown and Jackson in practice, will
determine the action to be taken.

***** In any case, I consider it a nice "problem" to have.

I was thinking Washington would beat out Caldwell, but Washington
would certainly have more trade value. The fact that neither
Caldwell nor Washington played last night could mean that they are
both safe, and they were showcasing Childress. I agree. I'd hate to
see him go. The guy shows a lot of potential. A tough cut, indeed.

I wonder if Lua will have to go on IR? Didn't look good, and they
were working on his knee on the sidelines.

***** Good game summary, for  those who didn't see or hear it.

***** I also recommend this "Patriots Daily" email feed for anybody who can't get enough Pats news and views. The guy does a good "down to earth" job; and there are often some good links. Thanks to Steve to pointing me in this direction. I found the site by "Googling" to get a good Al Breer link.

***** The bad news is that I heard on the Tanguay post-game show that Al Breer is leaving the Herald. He's moving the Dallas Morning News. Damn shame. I only got to read about 3 of his columns, and I really like his work.

You know, I might tend to agree with folks who say the NFL pre-season is too long.

I’m good with the first week, when the starters take a bow early and we see the rookies and free agents that are trying to make the team. The starters stretch it out a bit in week two, playing most if not all of the first half. The third week is the full dress rehearsal, and by now, the rookies and free agents are either stepping up, or stepping out.

Doesn’t it seem like it ought to end right there?

Well, the league evidently feels otherwise, and so last night the Patriots passed their way to a 27-20 win over the New York Giants at Gillette Stadium to finish out their pre-season at 2-2.

Matt Cassel, Vinny Testaverde and Matt Gutierrez combined to go 24-34-246 and a touchdown, a late Gutierrez to Bam Childress score that put the game away for the Pats.

Kelvin Kight, Marcellus Rivers and CJ Jones combined to catch 13 passes for 167 yards to lead the New England passing game.

The Patriots defense sacked New York’s quarterbacks eight times, including three from LeKevin Smith, who moved from end to nose in a test of his backup skills there, and two by outside linebacker hopeful Pierre Woods, who also forced two fumbles. Eric Alexander, who has probably made the team already, led all Patriots with 13 tackles (eight unassisted) anyway.

The only real justification for the fourth pre-season game is the final chance to look at the players, young and old, that are still competing for the final few spots on the Patriots roster. New England’s regulars dressed but did not play, save for staring fullback Health Evans, who took a turn at tailback and scored a touchdown.

The Patriots did not escape unscathed, as they lost rookie linebacker Oscar Lua to what appeared to be a serious right leg injury in the early going. After a week in which even his bilingual skills were touted, Lua was over and out before he could even get started. Further proof of our theory that the NFL really sucks sometimes.

Yet there were a few players that were able to make their case before the final roster cutdown tomorrow.

Rivers, primarily known as a blocker throughout his spotty pro career, continued to show some receiving skills (5 catches for 47 yards) to likely cement a role as New England’s third tight end. Not bad for a guy that got a late start. Rivers may find a way to stick even after David Thomas returns, as Kyle Brady has done little this August to offer guarantee that he can fill the faux Daniel Graham role when the bell rings.

Chris Hanson, the former Jacksonville punter signed after the surprise cut of Danny Baugher earlier in the day, hit the ball reasonably well and even dropped one inside the Giants five with the help of veteran special teamer Dante Wesley. There’s still more than a week before the Pats travel to the Meadowlands to open the season, but Hanson may have done enough last night to survive the ax until then.

Sorry Chris, that one was just sitting there.

Wesley may have grabbed a spot with a late interception of Tim Hasselbeck deep in Giants territory to set up the Childress touchdown that provided the margin of victory. He knocked away two other passes and also impressed with his hustling charity-hop putdown of Hanson’s directional punt. He clearly outdistanced Tory James, the other corner, who did little to establish his value with New England as the two battled to grab one of the final roster spots.

Receiver CJ Jones, however, returned kicks with elan and took in an impressive catch and run for 28 yards. Where were you last year, CJ? Your timing isn’t great, nor is Kight’s, who seems to be developing at a time when the Patriots have more receivers than they have spots.

Speaking of receivers, Garrett Mills worked himself open for four catches of his own, lining up as a tight end and fullback and showing some of the versatility he’ll need to hang on. But with the running backs set and Rivers gaining control of the open tight end spot, where will he go?

Other players with more certain futures with the team also had their moments.

Cassel had his most impressive turn of the pre-season, directing two scores and hitting a few accurate throws to in-stride receivers. He gave way to Testaverde in the second quarter, and Vinny had a up and down performance in his first extended action of the pre-season. He led the Pats to a score in the third with crisp timing throws before throwing a bad interception while trying to force a ball in to a well covered Mills. Gutierrez did everything he could this August to win a spot with the team, and the Pats can only hope to sneak him to the practice squad this weekend.

Woods showed some burst off the edge as a pass rusher (and a knack for dislodging the ball), but in early action against the Giants first team, he was bowled over in goal line defense, giving way to a short Brandon Jacobs touchdown plunge.  Still, he could get the nod over rookie Justin Rogers, who wasn’t able to finish the pre-season as strongly as he started it, and veteran Chad Brown, was has been a non-factor to the naked eye.

Brandon Meriweather started at safety with Willie Andrews, and showed good range despite occasionally yielding some ground in coverage. Not surprising as he was seeing his first time at his most natural position. One thing is certain about Meriweather - he can tackle. He finished with nine. Andrews, another developing player who is likely to stick, had six of his own.

Smith has been a revelation this month, showing versatility across the defensive front with a strong start at the nose last night. He’ll join rookie Kareem Brown (who didn’t even play, giving way to folks like Santonio Thomas and Zach West) to give the Pats perhaps their deepest defensive line of the Belichick era.

Speaking of versatility, the game closed with Bam Childress playing halfback (another young receiver that is coming on at the wrong time for the Pats) and Gutierrez covering kicks, which was probably indication it was time, mercifully, to end the pre-season and complete the construction of New England’s final roster.

***** Like Rodney, I am very disappointed in his decision. I am absolutely
certain that it was driven by his competitive spirit. He wanted to get
himself back onto the field as soon as possible. Unfortunately, that desire
was so strong that it overcame his common sense, and led him to take a
chance (on being caught) where the risk (a 4-game suspension) outweighed the
reward (perhaps a 2-3 week difference in getting back on the field).

***** As he usually does, he handled the results with class. I'll hate not
having him out there for 4 games. But I remain a staunch fan of Rodney
Harrison, the football player, and the man. Had this been for marijuana or
cocaine, or even a true steroid, I'd feel very differently. But, as I said,
I think I understand, and applaud, his motivation for doing it; while still
being disappointed in his inability to resist it, and stick with approved
methods of healing.

"This is Rodney Harrison. I'm basically here to let you all know that
tomorrow the commissioner will announce that I've been suspended by the NFL
for violating the league policy on banned substances. That suspension will
be four games. I want to make it clear that not once did I ever use
steroids. I did admit to the commissioner that I did in fact use a banned
substance. My purpose was never to gain a competitive edge. Rather, my use
was solely for accelerating the healing process of injuries I sustained
while playing football.
"I haven't made excuses nor will I make excuses. I made a mistake and I'm
very sorry for that. I understand that I'm a role model to high school to
college, to young kids. I don't condone my decision, my behavior. I'm very,
very embarrassed by it. I'm disappointed in myself and to any young person,
any high schooler, any college athlete I sent the wrong message with my
actions. And I would ask and I would want to be the example for them to
never jeopardize what they believe in and never jeopardize their health. And
they always have to love themselves."
Harrison also said he wanted to apologize to the Patriots organization and
its fans.

I have the utmost respect for Rodney, as a player and as a person.
He's been terrific on the field and off, with his play and all the
help he's given to younger players. But, I cut him no slack on this.
It was a stupid thing to do; for his health, his reputation, and for
the impact it has to the team on the field.

He has discussed performance enhancers before. I remember him saying
that he always takes any new supplements to the training staff first,
so they can determine if it's legal to use before taking anything.
Very hypocritical of him, and I'm very disappointed. I understand why
he did it, but as you said, the risk vs reward doesn't wash. He made a
mistake, and he's paying for it, so I won't condemn him. But it is
awfully disappointing.

After seeing that the Pats had 4 punters in for tryouts this week, I
noticed this comment in the Globe article on Rodney's suspension...

"More than football may have been involved in the Patriots' somewhat
surprising decision to cut ties with punter Danny Baugher and sign
veteran Chris Hanson. Baugher, who in three exhibition games had
punted nine times for a gross average of 44.8 yards and net of 39.0,
was recently charged with assault by the Plymouth County District
Attorney's Office."

There had to have been something more to the story.

From a quick and easy point of view for me, Rodney took a banned substance and new it was banned.  He gambled for himself and the team and lost.  This is a bad gamble, a poor decision and has rather serious results which will last much longer than the four game suspension.  I'm exceedingly sad he made such a choice and uncertain how strongly I or others may feel but will have a better idea in five weeks than I have now.

More intricate to me is when he took these.  He was pushing most hard to return fully healed by the playoffs last year after the cheap shot took him out of the season.  It was an unreasonable return date but he was pushing for it and wouldn't  that have been a tempting time.  It doesn't change my belief in the impropriety of his choice but it does make me understand a bit more.  The shot was cheap and while ruled legal by the league that's questionable to many and so a cheat in return might have been justificable in his mind.

Now if he took it this off-season to get himself ready more quickly when normal healing should have been enough then I'm more apalled by his choice.  I do not know what he took and how it actually impacts the world of healing.  It would have to be an impressive discrepancy to make this even a little more understandable.

There is one other aspect which I do not believe applies but which I fully understand.  It is not just Rodney's football but his body that was at some risk.  If there are ways to make my body more healthy and especially if that's a long term status, I certainly am going to understand wanting to manage that angle.  Many banned substances might very reasonably be significant in long term health.  Heck I'd leave the country for surgeries not allowed here but that would benefit my body and if my job said they'd let me go for that I might do it anyhow if it means enough to my long term health.  This doesn't seem a factor but I don't know the extent of Rodney's injury or the potency of the drug he chose.

I also have3 to agree with Bill it is rare that someone is caught on their first offense and Rodney's admissions come after getting caught.  He handled it reasonably well thus far but that doesn't mean all the negative signs aren't there.  Now as far as cutting him for being a cheater, the league has a punishment system that resolves the  price for his rules violation and that is being enforeced which means that when it's done he is cleared from that and aside from the higher scrutiny of his new league status he's following the rules to play and I'll support that and any decision the team reaches on their approach to this situation.  I could understand if they chose to cut him and would be very disappointed but accepting but again I don't think that's necessary nor what they will choose.

I think it's great that the league has a substance abuse policy but I don't
think they mete it out fairly. Ricky Williams is a pothead and isn't
allowed to play but Michael Irving is a cokehead and gets put in the hall of
fame, there's nothing fair about that.

Yeah, I'd support him in those circumstances: he'd have made bad
choices, but he wouldn't be a cheat. It wouldn't be *nearly* as bad.

(If it was marijuana I doubt I'd care at all.)

***** Now that we're dealing with facts, some comments:

Subject: da Roster

Quarterback (3)
Tom Brady
Matt Cassel
Matt Gutierrez
Quick hit: Gutierrez, a rookie free agent, showed too much to not earn a
roster spot. Vinny Testaverde is cut.

***** Personally, I'm happy to see this. Guitierrez appears to have some
potential, and will gain from his clipboard duty. Meanwhile, I won't be
surprised if Vinny is on the sidelines as an "adviser", unless Josh feels
threatened by him. He'll certainly be on call. But I'm still confident in
Cassel. I think the Pats would go with him if ... (leave that unsaid!)

   Running back (4)
Laurence Maroney
Sammy Morris
Kevin Faulk
Heath Evans
Quick hit: Quinton Smith the lone cut

***** No surprise for anybody here.

   Wide receiver (6)
Randy Moss
Donte' Stallworth
Wes Welker
Jabar Gaffney
Kelley Washington
Reche Caldwell
Quick hit: Chris Dunlap, C.J. Jones, Bam Childress and Kelvin Kight the
cuts.

***** My six-pack. But what to do, what to do, when the PUP period ends for
Troy and Jackson?

   Tight end (3)
Benjamin Watson
Kyle Brady
David Thomas
Quick hit: Marcellus Rivers, Garrett Mills and Brian Jones the cuts. David
Thomas comes off PUP.

***** The "original" TE group.

   Offensive line (9)
Matt Light
Logan Mankins
Dan Koppen
Stephen Neal
Nick Kaczur
Ryan O'Callaghan
Wesley Britt
Billy Yates
Russ Hochstein
Quick hit: Rookies Clint Oldenburg, Corey Hilliard and Mike Elgin are cut,
as is veteran Gene Mruczkowski

***** Makes sense. Hochstein's versatility covers the backup C spot, as well
as G and T. Youngsters O'Callaghan and Britt keepers.

   Defensive line (6)
Ty Warren
Vince Wilfork
Jarvis Green
Mike Wright
Le Kevin Smith
Kareem Brown
Quick hit: Richard Seymour to reserve/PUP, while Rashad Moore, Zach West and
Santonio Thomas are the cuts.

***** BB and his secrecy. I, along with most, I think, had no idea that
Seymour had a serious injury. DAMN! I did think that Moore had a shot at a
backup spot here. Wright and Smith are both better than I thought they were.

   Inside linebacker (5)
Adalius Thomas
Tedy Bruschi
Junior Seau
Eric Alexander
Larry Izzo
Quick hit: Rookie Oscar Lua to injured reserve. Corey Mays is cut.

***** I'm not at all worried about this group. The re-signing of Seau, and
the continuing development of Alexander sets it.

   Outside linebacker (3)
Mike Vrabel
Rosevelt Colvin
Pierre Woods
Quick hit: Rookie Justin Rogers is cut.

***** I'd be more comfortable with 8 LBs. I know we'll be moving them
around, with Thomas and Tedy both able to go outside in some sets. But the
number still feels too low to me. Will we ever draft another LB early?! ;-)

   Cornerback (5)
Ellis Hobbs
Randall Gay
Brandon Meriweather
Tory James
Asante Samuel*
Quick hit: Dante Wesley and Larry Anam the cuts. Team has an exemption for
Asante Samuel through Sept. 10 or until he is activated.

***** Interesting that they list Meriweather at CB. Did this come from the
Pats' site, Steve? Likely to stay like this when they activate Assante,
since the total, including him and Rodney, below, is 53. I would imagine
Assante will be activated before opening day.

   Safety (6)
Eugene Wilson
James Sanders
Willie Andrews
Mel Mitchell
Rashad Baker
Rodney Harrison*
Quick hit: Rodney Harrison doesn't count against the 53-man limit.

***** As noted above, this looks like the final (as "final" as any roster)
list at S, since when Rodney comes back we'll be at 53. I'm a little
surprised that they would keep one more on, though, since Rodney will be out
for 6 weeks.

   Specialists (3)
Kicker -- Stephen Gostkowski
Punter -- Chris Hanson
Long snapper -- Lonie Paxton
ANALYSIS: The Patriots have some flexibility to bring in another player,
as Rodney Harrison doesn't count against the 53-man roster limit. No big
surprises here. Rookie Matt Gutierrez is the big winner, as the quarterback
showed too much in the preseason to risk losing him. He beats out Vinny
Testaverde.

Steve - this is subject to change

***** All year long, Steve. All year long.
