Hey old guys!  In 5 days, we get to reconvene, play a
little rugby, and catch up on old times.  That's
right, it's the first ever alumni match!  This
Saturday, May 5th, at 3:30 PM at the Parkside Rugby
Field, us old guys will take on the current team.
It's all in fun and won't be all that physically
demanding.  Murphy is providing us with jerseys that

Hey guys, the 1st Annual Parkside Men's Rugby Alumni
match which is on Saturday, May 5th, 2007 at 3:30 PM
at the Parkside Rugby Field is only 1 month from
today!

I've slowly be trying to get ahold of more and more
alums.  I know we will have a solid 15-20 and the
Racine/Kenosha old boys are going to come too and help
out.  It's gonna be a glorious day of rugby guys.

What do you need to bring?

Your families, kids, rugby boots if you got them, some
shorts, and socks.  Doc Murphy is donating a set of
jersies for the alumni to wear.  The aftermatch is at
Murphy's Pub and Grill which is one of our main
sponsors.

Please make sure you have May 5th written down on the
calendar.  Even if you can't play, or don't want to
actually play, come and gather with your rugby
brethren, even on the sidelines if necessary.

The only guy who said he for sure can't make it is
Mark Senske which made me cry a little into my beer.
Perhaps next year Mark!

We are still looking for the whereabouts of other guys
like Chris Kupper, Jim Kipp, Kevin Scott, Jason Maye,
Dan Elsinger, Eric Forward, Glenn Shoen, Wade Helding,
and Brandon Sielen.

Let me know if you know where any of these guys are!

Can't wait to see everyone in a month!

Hey ruggers, attached to this email is an email from
Chris Bauer, former 8 man of the Parkside rugby team.
He is in Hong Kong right now watching the Hong Kong
7's which is one of the more famous rugby tournaments
in the world.  He attached some pictures of him with
Jonah Lomu, one of the most recognizable players in
rugby history and apparently the US won their first
match already against France which would certainly be
considered an upset.  Check the attached email!

Due to 4-5 of our alumni playing important matches on
May 5th in Milwaukee, we will move the time of the
match from 1 PM to 3:30 PM.  This will allow Tal,
Colin, Briggs, and Will to join our alumni side.  The
game will be over at 5 and we will head to Murphy's
for the social afterwards.  Pretty exciting stuff
guys.  Our first alumni match ever.  The jersies for
the alumni will be graciously provided by Dr. John
Murphy.

Just wondering if we can delay the start time of the Alumni game. A few of us play for the Milwaukee Harlequins and we have a match against Milwaukee RFC to determine who stays in Division 2 and who drops down to Division 3. The game starts at 1 p.m. If we could push back the game a couple hours because I know Will, Tal, and I would like to play at the alumni game.

Let me know everyone's thoughts.

Hey guys, the Parkside guys take on MSOE this weekend
at home at 1 PM.  We had 75-100 people at our home
match last weekend and we'd like even more this
weekend.  Old boy support is needed!  Check the team

Saturday next spring I would like to have the 1st ever
alumni match.  It's been 10 years since we started the
club and it's only going to happen with many of you
committing and showing up.  This egroup has about 20
people on it now and I have probably another 10 guys
I'd like to add so we shouldn't have a hard time
getting together 15-20 of us at least next spring to
take on the young punks.  Please mark down the date

coming to cheer us on.

Hey guys, last Saturday, the UW-Parkside guys took the
field and claimed the bowl championship (3rd place
overall) in the men's open competitive bracket at
Lakefront 7's.

The day began at 8 AM and we played Grand Rapids.
From the opening kickoff, our team played extremely
aggressively, and we opening an early lead of 12-0 by
half.  In the second half, we had a couple defensive
lapses, allowing Grand Rapids to score, but not before
securing 2 more scores of our own and winning 24-12.

Our second match came after noon and was against the
vaunted Milwaukee Black and Whites.  The boys showed
no fear to the aura surrouding playing a DII Mens Club
team and hit them hard.  Milwaukee struck first on a
couple long runs and soon ran up a 10-0 lead.  But
this was not a Parkside team that would lie down to
defeat.  Baumgart gave us the spark we needed with a
beautiful kick and chase that gave us our first score.
  Our second score came when our defense just smothered
Black and White in their own try zone and they
couldn't kick it away.  Dom crushed his opposing
player, forcing him to knock it on and then touching
it down for a try.  On the ensuing kickoff, Dom held
up and stole the ball from the Black and White player
and Streeter then threw a ridiculous pass that allowed
B & W to score again.  Down 17-12, Parkside scored an
equalizer to knot it up, but couldn't quite punch it
in as time expired.  While a tie is a tie, most of the
guys knew we could have beaten this team and looked
forward to our third match later in the day for a
chance to win the pool.

After watching the B & W, Grand Rapids match, we
figured we'd need 5 tries to tie B & W in the
standings and 6 to beat them.  With Paul and Dane
subbing in at props for Streeter and Schanke, there
was zero letdown and the Parkside boys pounded the SIU
guys to the tune of 41-10. scoring 7 tries in the
process and winning the pool!

Due to some piss poor playoff scheduling though,
Parkside was originally left out of the playoffs for
the entire championship, simply due to us not scoring
as much as the top two teams in the whole thing.
Finally, the organizers realized how they had botched
setting up the playoffs and it was determined that we
would play the LaFollette Old Boys for 3rd Place.  In
past years, we would have gone on to the Final Four
and played another undefeated team in the semifinals
but this year, they mangled the brackets and we had to
settle playing for third.  Sadly enough, the
LaFollette guys were so pissed about originally being
left out of the playoffs too that they had left so 3rd
fell into our laps.  Not the way we wanted to win it,
but its how the cards fell.

On the day, I was particularly impressed and amazed at
how well we stepped it up when we had to.  We blended
experience with youth and put in a great showing.
Merten played his usual game of kicking at the right
times and using bursts of speed to find holes.  Johan
and Bauer played superbly at scrummie and directed
many, many offensive attacked.  Elliot, Schanke, Dane,
an Paul all played with intensity and consistently
attacked.  Dom and Baumgart were our only true backs
besides Merten, and they played every minute of every
game almost and never let down one bit.  Braakman was
there as well and got in a couple whore matches for
his first 7's experience ever.  Next year, I can't
wait to get back up there and win the whole damn
thing!
