Dave and I went out to Highland Ice Area at 180th & Aurora Ave. N. to try out
the 7:30 Sunday night ice hockey game. I had nearly forgotten what steel
scrapping against ice sounds like. This game has been going now for about as
long as our roller hockey game (15 years) and is populated by some interesting
characters. It's a good alternative for when the weather goes bad. It will
cost you $15 bucks to skate. The beer is much cheaper (around the corner at
Darrell's) The conversation is cheaper still. These are friendly folks and they
cheerfully accommodate all skill levels. In fact, beginner skaters are
encouraged. But don't wear your roller blades! You can rent hockey skates
there.
The rules are similar to ours: choose up sides, one pass, no-check,
no-lift-the-puck, everyone takes a turn in goal. A free door to door shuttle
service is
also available anywhere in Snohomish, King, Pierce, and Thurston counties --
just talk to Doug. For more (true) info email Julie:
