Hi everyone....I would like to join up with the group that is doing a
20km run at Sulphur at 8.30pm this Friday 16th. I will be driving down
from Huntsville, going directly to the run.
I don't like the idea of driving back to Huntsville that same evening
and would like to do a daytime run there on the Saturday if possible.
Is anyone planning a Saturday run?
Cameron has been kind enough to offer a bed at his place for Friday
night.(I will be pacing him during the last two laps of his 100 at
Sulphur) However his place is an hour from Sulphur, so I was wondering
if anyone who lives closer might have a spare bed available.
I realise that this is very 'last minute' and that it is a holiday
weekend. Also, being very new to this sport (a two race 'veteran'!),
not many of you have met me yet. Anyway, I just thought that I would
ask anyway.
I am also new to ultra running (or so it would seem after my
Garanaska results)...
I am planning to run the new Creemore course Saturday morning circa
08:30 and since Creemore is between Hamilton and Huntsville (if you
squint your eyes) you are welcome to stay the night. I have a tree
house with lights, electricity and heat (yeah, I know, very
strange). Creemore is about 1.5 hours from Hamilton.
Note to all: The Saturday run is open to anyone who would like to
run 25K and critique the new hills I am thinking of adding to the
course. They are little hills, similar to the current 4 hills.
Cheers!

Pierre: Instead of little hills you could refer to them as ''rises".
And I am not fooled by your reference to "same as the other 4 hills"
And while Pierre is reading this, Hammer puts out some good product which may
help with your cramping.
They have electrolite pills as well as a powder product "Sustained Energy"
which should be used for exercise lasting more than 3 hours (I know I need
that). You can add that to your water.Speaking of water, I read that cramping is
due to de-hyrdration but you know you need to drink lots.
If you don't want to carry all that stuff, you could leave some at a drop
zone.

Thanks for the advice. Most likely I was dehydrated to start the
race. I have also tried eload pills once upon a time, which helped,
so I need to prepare better for 50K races. Perhaps when I grow old,
I'll learn better? (50 in June).

Growing old didn't seem to help me at Creemore last year. ECaps and plenty of
fluids do seem to help prevent cramping. Lying on the ground in poison ivy
cramping up while other runners step over you to get to the finish line isn't
fun.
Hope to see everyone at Sulphur Springs in less then two weeks.

The Creemore run sounds interesting. Just one thing though. As I won't be
finished running at Sulphur until around 11pm, I won't be in Creemore until
about 1.00am.
You should also know that I am not a fast runner. I wouldn't want to slow you
down. I will likely be quite tired.
I am trying to get hold of John Turner. We had made tentative plans to run
Sulphur this weekend also (daytime). I should find out what he is up to before I
make a commitment .
I also had leg cramps at Ganaraska. First time ever for me. I am quite sure that
I was dehydrated as my urine was yellow. A runner friend who is also a
pharmacist told me tonight that he takes a Magnesium pill twice a day when his
training schedule or races include extra long runs. He is a 2hr 35min
marathoner, so it would seem that his advice should be sound. By the way, I once
asked him for his advice on how to run 50km and longer races. His response..."my
advice to you Neil is to seek counselling"

I had wondered about driving 1.5 hours that late after a 20K.
Probably the reason you are looking for something closer to the run.
Don't worry about slowing me down, the reason Creemore has so many
hills is to slow everyone down to my speed!

If your friends advice was to seek counselling if wanting to run 50km
races. What should people do if they want to run 100mi races. Ron G.
calls those marathoners a bunch of sprinters, and at 2:35 that is a
sprint.
