Hi everyone,
It is now 'probable' that we will be having a couple of snowshoe races here in
Huntsville on Jan 25th. They will be at Arrowhead Provincial Park, and will be
held in conjunction with the Muskoka Ski Loppet. These are classic crosscountry
ski races for anyone who would prefer skiing.
The snowshoe course is about 3.5 km. It will be run once or three times, so
3.5km or 10.5km. It is a fast flat course that will be packed down with an
Alpine. There are only a few rules. The snowshoes need to have an area of 120
square inches or more. They must be worn for the entire race. I am checking to
see if poles are allowed. Race entry fee will be $25, which includes lunch.
The website for the ski racing is www.arrowheadnordic.ca
I say 'probable' because we still need final approval from Arrowhead Nordic. I
need to go to them with approximate numbers.
Anyone who comes here is welcome to 'camp out' in my basement on the Saturday
night. It has a concrete floor and a wood stove. Bring a sleeping pad. We can
have a barbeque that night . There is a great fire pit we can cook over.
Arrowhead Park is a really good venue and the ski club puts on a first class
event. I would like to see snowshoe racing grow here in Ontario so that we have
some winter races to look forward to.
Get back to me as soon as you can
regards,
Neil Jefferson

Hey all,Is anyone interested in doing some snowshoe racing this winter? I was
thinking that we could organize a 5km to 10km race somewhere,(Ganaraska/Horeshoe
Valley perhaps), followed by a barbeque. I suggest late January. I haven't done
any running since early October. I was bucked off a horse. He then stepped on my
calf. Still hobbling around (me, that is). I am swimming and 'pool running' five
or six days a week. Pool running is a great way to do low impact cardio. I
should be going back to work in a couple of weeks.Neil JeffersonTo:

the Huff 50k in Indiana last year and it's a good little event in late December:

Trail marathon is also good, but usually sells out.Good luck,VC
