What an amazing day! The weather was glorious, the scenery stunning and the
course challenging; what more could you ask for on the first day of a six
day, 300km adventure? As the runners set off at 0730 this morning spirits we
high, however by the 10km mark some of the competitors we wondering if they
we going to finish the first stage by Friday, as the course became more
technical over the rocky terrain.
By CP2 the course opened out into some faster tracks and everyone was able
to pick up the pace and stretch their legs a little to CP3. However then it
was back onto the rocky escarpment trails again, where some of the
competitors narrowly avoided treading on snakes that were out basking in the
sun. The challenging terrain was offset by the views from the many lookout
points along the cliff edge, with everyone saying they just had to stop
taking photos as it was slowing them down.
Two runners that did not slow down today were Bruce Grant and Rhodri Darch,
both of whom ran side by side the whole day, crossing the finish line at
49KM in 6hrs 24mins. Andy North was third in 7hrs 29mins, shortly followed
by James Adams three minutes behind. Jo Kilkenny, the lone female in the
event, crossed the line in 8hrs 41mins.
Much more of the same tomorrow, so stay tuned to the website for live
updates . www.runthemoose.com
