I heard the reason the grit's aces aren't doing so hot this season is that they
have been
licking each other's balls in between matches. especially that bulky bald
headed guy.
Geez, has it been that long since I posted anything here?
I told you this club was lame. lol.
Well, we've been having some big seasons lately, averaging 30-36 teams
a session. We lost a few of the smaller, 1 team bars like Chuck's,
Coyote & Parkview but we've picked up extra teams at Mick's, Homedale,
Grit's, Finn McCool's and Bruno's. We added 3 new boards in the back
room at Mick's bringing the total to five, so expect new teams playing
there soon. It seems Finn's has more players than boards these days w/
the rookie B3 team "Black & Blues" packing a full 10 player roster.
That place has become a darts training camp.
Tom,
What about a smaller, shorter season with the a cut down roster of bars? Say,
French Quarter and the 3 mentioned in your email? We can give you a hand on the
organizing, help you post stats (the wife and I are both in computers), chipping
in for some replacement boards.
We could have a final cup tournament for all the teams where we get together and
have a one-day playoff/party.
I realize everyone is in limbo but some darts, no matter how small, would help
to return some normalcy. Plus, I really miss my Tuesday nights.

Basically null and void right now. I haven't heard from all our
bars yet, but I would estimate that 80% of them are still not up and
running. As far as I've heard, Grit's, 3 Legged Dog, & Markey's are
open. I suppose all of the French Quarter bars will re-open, but
obviously the Gentilly, Lower Ninth Ward and N.O. East bars are
nowhere near ready for patrons, if they ever will be. Treasure Isle
looked better after the fire than it does now, I'm afraid.
And that's just the bar bad news. Our membership has taken a
serious hit as many members have either moved or are preparing to
move, many of them now jobless and homeless. I don't have an
accurate count, but I'd guess maybe 50% or less are still here.
So what does the future hold? I hope to be able to restart the
ODC with the Spring 2006 season. Unfortunately, all of the club
records (except those online) are probably destroyed, including our
fax machine, my computer, several brand new Blade II dartboards, the
portable dartboard frames, several boxes of T80, R9 & High Allstar
koozies, and the Southeast Regional Cup. Fortunately all of these
are replaceable, and it's a good thing that Grit's had won the Grail
because it should be high and dry. Next season, we may change
formats to allow 3 players to field a team, if low membership makes
this necessary. I'm also thinking of maybe starting a mini-league at
Grit's in late Oct. Maybe we can get enough players out on a Tuesday
to get a pick-up league going. I should have more info on this soon.
You all know how much I dislike letting anything prevent us from
playing darts, so I'll be doing what I can to get us back on track.
Your Dartsar,
Tom

Looks like another Great season even though Grit's teams had to
dominant Gold 1. I heard Treasure Isle Hitmen are coming back next
season minus a player or 2.
Well I am just writing to wish everyone good luck in the Playoffs and
hope to see some familiar faces at the Oche including Leslie and Joe
Cooper. If I have the time to watch a couple of matches I would go and
watch Grit's Misfits and Homedale Heauxs this Tuesday, and the
possibility of a McNulty's/Treasure Isle Tramps showdown next week.
But you never know maybe someone gets upset this week and we see some
Cinderella story again. I seem to always root for the underdog. Good
luck all.
P.S. : Tom G, Great job with all the work for the League and on the
website. It's been five and a half years and Tom has been keeping this
league growing from the beginning. We started with 18 teams and now we
are to 36! We have made it through Hurricanes, Bombings, and DUI
checkpoints.
Someone needs help with the web-site I see. Late and not to mention
week 3 and 4 is not posted. Well I can understand Week 4 but whats
with Week 3, falling a little behind are we, lol.
we both have 36 teams PLUS they're also taking teams from Chalmette.
But look how they did their schedule. Instead of 6 divisions of 6,
they made a Bronze with 8 teams and a Silver 1 with only 4 teams.
*scratches head* How sucky is to be in a 15 week, 4 team bracket,
playing the same three teams 5 times in one season?

Uh-oh, the president quit again. Usually this coincides with an
empty bank account. Hopefully not, this time. Check out the drama.
Don't you miss it?
http://www.gnoda.net/presidentscorner
Maybe their new president will make everything better. Looks like
Bingo is running. No comment. Gotta admit, this crop of letters
looks pretty professional compared to some of the gems I've seen in
the past. I wax nostalgic:
http://www.gnoda.net
Gold: Treasure Isle Untouchables
Silver: Finn McCool's Rotten Evil Motherfuckers
Mystery Outs: Mike Hardeman, Jennifer Cowell & Clem Dennis
Blind Bull Winner: Tom Bimmerle Jr. 3
High Out: Rocky Bartholomew 110 via DB
Lotus Skullpuckers and Treasure Isle Hitmen will be playing for the
Gold Grail on Saturday. The Skullpuckers went down to the last game
with the Grit's Aces, and finished off a great game with a 110 out
using the Double BULL to go out. They also had another mystery out
entry with a 78 out earlier in the night.
Good Luck at the Grail all,
Jeff Simpson
Congratulations go out to the Skullpuckers for beating two Gold One
teams and keeping hope alive for teams that aren't ranked on top. I
like pulling for the underdogs but this week I have to play them. I
hope we have a good match and if they win I will be routing for them
in the Cup.
By the way if they do make it to the Cup it will be the second time a
Gold 3 team has made it to the Cup. The last time being when Colleen
McMillar, Pat Pocock, Paul Quisenberry and Mike Kerwin led the
O'Flaherty's Wire Wire to the first ODC City Grail EXACTLY five years
ago (Spring 2000).
Good Darts,
Jeff Simpson
lots of fun, free beer, free entry to the $100 tournament. New this
time, we're doing a blind bullseye competition. You get 3 darts to see
how many bulls you can hit. The trick is we're covering the bull with
a bar napkin. Payout will be $5 per bullseye!
You know this club fucking rocks.
Last week of the season and I have only played once in the last past
month. First game of the night and I threw a 12 dart 301 game. 32 in,
45, Ton 80, 44 out. My next singles game I throw a 18 dart cricket
game including 2 allstars, 7 marks and 3 bulls. I almost had the round
of nine, I hit trip 19, trip 18, freaking single 17 just below the
trip! Next game I throw, I had 111 left in 501, and I hit single 17,
trip 18, wire the double 20. This is the first time in League though I
have ever seen two ton 80s by the same team, Chris Hernandez also hit
a Ton80. Five years ago a partner of mine and I both hit round of
nines in the same night and I also witnessed Scott W. and Lynn
Champagne hit round of nines against each other in the same singles
cricket game. Anyone else seen two big hits in the same League night?
last Tue. I stepped up to a 50 in 501. Was going for DB of course, but
went OFF course and snagged a trip 16 (48). 2nd dart was, yep, a
double 1 for the V. Unconventional but effective.
Tom
No post since February, all must be throwing like crap like me.
Peas to meet lots of new and friendly people, but would like to smoke
sometimes instead of getting smoked most of the time.
I am green with envy or maybe because I'm a pea or I can't play darts
because I'm green or maybe it's the beer or maybe I just need a green
beer. HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!
GO PEAS (back to silver).

Here's some news. I just got back from the Parish Pub in Chalmette.
I had a passenger on the way back, the long lost SOUTHEASTERN
REGIONAL CUP that was recently won back from SBDL by the Treasure
Isle Hitmen. It looks like it's been through some rough times, so
we're sending it to the trophy repair ICU to see if it can be
resurrected. Thanks to Danielle for helping return this relic to
it's latest rightful owners!
a negative allstar, so I'll be forced to deduct one from you,
bringing your total to zero. Thanks for bringing this to my
attention, John. What a good partner you are! ha ha ha!
Big Kevin Sweeney of Lotus Skullforkers hit the most embarrassing
low score i've ever seen in my whole dart history in 801, 0, no lie,
a big 0. Boy when things crumble they really do, lol. Still my
partner tho, always will stand by him, just not too close.
Looks like "nearly-undefeated last time" Homedale Heaux Mark Chapotel
hit the second 6B in ODC history last week. The first was hit by
Mutineer Allen Gregoire in Spring 2002. Now you know.
the first sentence clearly calls them "giant squid" when in point of
fact, they are merely "jumbo."
I like the warning. Like who would eat a decomposing (jumbo) dead
squid they just found washed up on the beach? Oh yeah, Californians!
Now we all know what happened to the Dartszar's old dart team.
Hundreds Of Jumbo Squid Washing Up On California Shores
POSTED: 8:50 am EST January 20, 2005
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. -- Hundreds of giant squid are washing up on
Orange County beaches, creating a scene more akin to "20,000 Leagues
Under the Sea" than "The O.C."
The bug-eyed sea creatures, believed to be Humboldt squid, normally
reside in deep water and only come to the surface at night. Why
approximately 500 of them began washing up on the sands of Laguna
Beach and Newport Beach on Tuesday isn't clear.
Authorities said the squid - the biggest weighing 17 pounds - might
have been pursuing bait fish and gotten too close to shore, or the
tides might simply have carried them in.
"I have heard of this happening before, but it's not a common
occurrence," lifeguard Capt. Eric Bauer of the Newport Beach Fire
Department said Wednesday.
Authorities plan to remove the squid in the next couple of days and
will give at least a couple to the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural
History for research.
In the meantime, beachgoers were advised not to eat or even touch
them. "They probably have bacteria on them at this point," Bauer
said.
