Basically null and void right now. I haven't heard from all our
bars yet, but I would estimate that 80% of them are still not up and
running. As far as I've heard, Grit's, 3 Legged Dog, & Markey's are
open. I suppose all of the French Quarter bars will re-open, but
obviously the Gentilly, Lower Ninth Ward and N.O. East bars are
nowhere near ready for patrons, if they ever will be. Treasure Isle
looked better after the fire than it does now, I'm afraid.
And that's just the bar bad news. Our membership has taken a
serious hit as many members have either moved or are preparing to
move, many of them now jobless and homeless. I don't have an
accurate count, but I'd guess maybe 50% or less are still here.
So what does the future hold? I hope to be able to restart the
ODC with the Spring 2006 season. Unfortunately, all of the club
records (except those online) are probably destroyed, including our
fax machine, my computer, several brand new Blade II dartboards, the
portable dartboard frames, several boxes of T80, R9 & High Allstar
koozies, and the Southeast Regional Cup. Fortunately all of these
are replaceable, and it's a good thing that Grit's had won the Grail
because it should be high and dry. Next season, we may change
formats to allow 3 players to field a team, if low membership makes
this necessary. I'm also thinking of maybe starting a mini-league at
Grit's in late Oct. Maybe we can get enough players out on a Tuesday
to get a pick-up league going. I should have more info on this soon.
You all know how much I dislike letting anything prevent us from
playing darts, so I'll be doing what I can to get us back on track.
Your Dartsar,
Tom
