Great news for all you volleyball players out there looking to escape this brutal weather and get your feet on beautiful white sand beaches. Due to your many requests Volleyball Vacations   has decided to open up 10 more spots for the upcoming volleyball vacations Cayman islands trip on January 12-19, 2008. Prices start at $1099 but these last spots will sell out fast so call now and don't be left out in the cold. Call Terrie for any questions and to reserve your spot at 877-248-VOBE (8623) ext. 224. Semi all-inclusive package includes hotel room, transfers to and from the airport, breakfast, dinner, happy hour drinks and all the tournaments, clinics and coaching from the pros. We will be staying at the sunshine suites resort and playing on the famous seven mile beach.

Learn about the Cayman Islands

This is the original "volleyball vacations" founded by AVP pro beach champion AL-B Hannemann where his AVP buddies have been playing and partying with volleyball enthusiasts at exotic destinations since 1993. We recently returned from the Turks and Caicos islands Volleyball Vacation in November and had an amazing time. We had a pro coaches ratio of better than 1 pro per 5 volleyball vacationers. AVP stars Casey Jennings, Michelle More, Aaron Wachtfogel, Angela Lewis, Anthony Medel, Mark Williams and Jenelle Koester (to name a few) were all there coaching, playing and partying with the crew of over 100 vacationers that joined us.

Check out VBV Blog  for pictures and more information.

Watch the awesome Volleyball Vacations videos

We will offer fun volleyball tournaments, pro work outs, clinics, nutrition advice and daily opportunities to compete with and against the pros. All levels are welcome as everyone will play on courts based on their individual skill level. This vacation is an opportunity to be coached by the best players in the world in a non threatening beautiful atmosphere. You will meet new friends from all over the world and share your passion for volleyball. The common theme that everyone talks about after experiencing these vacations is not only the drastic improvement in their volleyball ability but more importantly the new friends and relationships that are made.

**A typical day...9am-1pm Tournament Play, 1-2pm Lunch, 2:30-4:30pm Clinics, 4:30-5:30pm Open play with the Pro Coaches, 6-7:00pm Happy Hour, 7:30-9:30pm Dinner, 10pm-? Evening Entertainment.

Our emphasis is about creating a vacation where the pros are there for you. If you want to battle in tournaments, pick the mind of a champion, do the drills that they do or just hang out and have a beer with your favorite pro, you have the opportunity to do this for an entire week!

*EVERYONE gets volleyball vacations T-shirts and prizes signed by the pros. We don't only reward the tournament winners but make sure that every single person gets something cool to take home with them. Prizes range from Kerri Walsh signed posters and bathing suits to Aaron Wachtfogel and Casey Jennings signed AVP competition shorts.

Some of the activities that are available are Diving, Stingray City/Turtle Farm, Swim with the sharks, Helicopter Tour, Surf Park, Tour of Island: Pedro's Castle, Blow Holes, Mastic Trail, Rum Point, National Gallery, Kayaking, Day Spa's at Ritz, Deep Sea Fishing, Atlantis Submarine, Nautilus Semi-Sub, Parasailing, Jet Ski's/Watersports and shopping in town. If you are coming to play volleyball all day or simply want to join your friend and see the island you will be busy with lots of great options to enjoy. Well as we prepare for our spring 2008 season, the United States Youth Volleyball League is continually striving to provide organized volleyball programs for kids. With that in mind, we are currently looking to fill the position of Site Director at your site. The season should run from April to June. We generally ask our site directors and coaches to be there about 15 minutes early to help set up and check in kids.

If you volunteer as a site director your child's fees are waived for that season. What an easy way to volunteer and you are volunteering for the same amount of time as your child is at his or her practice and game.

The Site Director is the main contact person between their site and the National Office. They comply in spirit and letter with USYVL Philosophy, Codes, & Policies, and receive all necessary printed materials for the program from both the National Office and from registered players. They are taught to accurately and efficiently run parent meetings. They monitor the team rosters, help in recruiting and assigning parent volunteers for as many positions as necessary to help operate the league (i.e., t-shirt or ball distribution, sign in table, etc.), and distribute whatever handouts are needed to both players and parents. We usually have a large number of parents who are interested in volunteering, and we assign players and coaches onto teams at our office. Your main responsibility is to accept required medical release and volunteer application forms that have been turned into you (instead of the main office), check-in kids on a daily basis at practices and games, and maintain the first aid kit. This can be shared with your registration staff, but you would be the responsible party and we would ask you to be on site during all practices and game days; if you are unable to be there for any reason, you may ask one of your responsible volunteers to bring the required materials to practices or games.

We train you prior to the start of the league and keep in contact throughout the volleyball season.

I can be reached by email at Patrick@... or toll-free at 1-888-988-7985. Also please do not hesitate to recommend someone that you think may be appropriate for the site director position. Thank you for your time and I look forward to speaking with you.

The cost will be in line with the facility in Seattle:

All captains who put together a Coed 4's or Coed 6's team will get
1/2 off their 2's league fee!! (One captain per team)

That's twice the play and 1/2 the cost of other indoor sand
facilities!!

Rally co-workers, friends, and other athletes from other sports to

and have a big influence on building the sport in Oregon!

PRESS RELEASE 29.07.2007

AMERICANS SWEEP SWATCH-FIVB WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP GOLD MEDALS

Gstaad, Switzerland, July 29, 2007 - The only thing that Todd Rogers
mishandled here Sunday was the opening of a champagne bottle after he and
Phil Dalhausser won the men’s finale to give the United States a sweep of
the gold medals this weekend at the 2007 SWATCH-FIVB World Championships
powered by 1to1 energy.

After eliminating reigning Olympic champions Emanuel Rego and Ricardo Santos
of Brazil in the morning’s first semi-final match, Dalhausser and Rogers
joined compatriots Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh as USA gold medal
winners this weekend by defeating Dmitri Barsouk and Igor Kolodinsky of
Russia 21-16 and 21-14 in the 45-minute finale.

In addition to sharing the US$60,000 first-place prize in the $1-million
“Beach Volleyball Bash” in the Swiss Alps, Dalhausser and Rogers will
benefit from the 1,000 points towards qualifying for the Beijing 2008
Olympics. A tandem’s best eight finishes on the SWATCH-FIVB World Tour
through July 20, 2008 will count towards qualifying for the 24-team field.

“This weekend was about Beach Volleyball, but not just about Beach
Volleyball,” said the 33-year Rogers, who was named the SWATCH most
outstanding player for the SWATCH-FIVB World Championships. “For me, these
experiences are what I will remember. It not only is the competition, but
it is about the fans in the stands, the beautiful surroundings and the
overall atmosphere of good feelings generated this weekend.”

Rogers also added, that his partner “was the real outstanding player for the
event. I bet Phil that he would be the SWATCH top player for the event
since this was a homecoming for him and his family. I share this award with
him as he is becoming one of the great players in the world. I am lucky to
have him as a partner.”

Sunday’s title was the second SWATCH gold medal for the Americans, who won
for the first time on the FIVB tour last August in Austria where Dalhausser
and Rogers defeated Emanuel and Ricardo for the title. The next stop on the
international circuit is next week in Austria where Dalhausser and Rogers
will be defending their Klagenfurt title as the reigning SWATCH-FIVB World
Champions.

“It is a tremendous feeling to win this title in front of my parents and
relatives,” said the 27-year old Dalhausser, who lived a year in Switzerland
before moving to the United States with his Swiss mother and German father.
“We played two quality opponents today. Except for the second set against
the Brazilians, we had a great day.”

Rogers and Dalhausser advanced to the gold medal match by posting a 21-16,
13-21 and 19-17 win in 68 minutes over Emanuel and Ricardo, who captured the
2003 SWATCH-FIVB World Championships in Rio de Janeiro before claiming
Olympic gold the next year in Athens.

Barsouk and Kolodinsky, who shared $45,000 for second-place as the first
Russian men’s or women’s team to play in a SWATCH-FIVB World Tour gold medal
match in the 20-plus-year history of the International circuit, advanced to
the title match with a 21-13 and 21-19 win in 45 minutes over Andrew Schacht
and Joshua Slack of Australia.

In the bronze medal match, Schacht and Slack ended Brazil’s run of men’s
medals at the SWATCH-FIVB World Championships as the Australians upset
Emanuel and Ricardo 21-17 and 21-19 win in 42 minutes to capture the $35,000
third-place prize. The Brazilians split $28,000 for fourth-place.

The eighth of 13 double gender stops on the 2007 SWATCH-FIVB World Tour, the
women’s 2007 SWATCH-FIVB World Championships ended Saturday with reigning
Olympic champions May-Treanor and Walsh defeating Jia Tian and Jie Wang of
China 21-16 and 21-10 for their third-straight world title.

DAY OF - WALK UP REGISTRATION ALWAYS WELCOME!

OK Folks, Yes you have to play on Friday to Play on Saturday
Make the Commitment, you won't regret it - Take a sick day!

Their are many reasons for this 3-Day format, here are a few:

This is not just another tournament, it is about having the best competition possible AND about having the most fun in Tahoe. If we go with the regular format, it just doesn't get it done.

For the Competition: This is not just another tournament, it is a more challenging format, all players end up playing more matches to decide who really is the best. You must play Friday to Play on Saturday. It would not be fair to the people playing both days to have a team completely not play and entire day and come straight into the playoffs. Sunday Reverse Coed is played all on Sunday.

For the Fun: If we play a regular tournament format on Saturday, most people are too tired to go out Saturday night. This format gives you time both Friday and Saturday evenings to enjoy the South Shore Tahoe attractions and The Party on Saturday Night. Almost nowhere in Tahoe will they rent you a room for only Saturday night! Most have a two night minimum.

Location: Zephr Cove Park - Softball Field - Nevada

Subject: Every volleyball players perfect week!!!

Hey fellow volleyball fanatics! My name is Nicole Nilson and I play
year around/every surface volleyball in the Atlanta, GA area. I work
with/for Pro
Beach Volleyball Player AL-B Hannemann and his sports travel
companies "Volleyball Vacations" and "Ulitimate Sports Vacations".
In February I went on my first "Volleyball Vacation" cruise where we
had amazing clinics and play in Jamaica, Grand Turks, Cozumel and
Grand Cayman. I have been playing this game for 25 years and I must
say that I saw more improvement of my skills and learned more about
this game in that week than I have over the last 15 years!...And got
to play in beautiful settings to boot!
AL-B has been running "Volleyball Vacations" for 12 years, and if you
are a volleyball enthusiast like me, you will agree that there is
simply no better vacation to take! I don't know about you, but a
perfect vacation to me is being on the beach, playing ball until I
drop and then having a few (OK, maybe 10?!) drinks and some sort of
fun at night! However, I find that when I try to get a pick-up game
at the beach, there are usually nothing but "BBQ ballers"
available.....and that is just not the same....or even fun.
Well, AL-B has taken care of that with his new venture "Ultimate
Sports Vacations". From October 27-November 3rd we will be taking
over the entire club med village in Turks and Caicos. The best and
most unique thing about this trip is that it will include multiple
other sports/disciplines that will make up the rest of the village.
That means that because we "own" the village there will be nothing
but other like-minded athletic adults to play and party with!
For the volleyball villagers, our day will be a mixture of clinics
and tournament play with AVP pro's. Last trip the pro's included
Sinjin Smith, "Team Gorgeous" Michelle Moore and Suzanne Stonebarger,
Gold medalist Eric Fonoimoana and of course, AL-B.
They have also lined up amazing nightly entertainment, a huge
Halloween Bash and an end-of-week multiple sports village Olympics.
This is an all-inclusive vacation package, which means that all food,
drinks (yes, even top-shelf liquors), coaching and entertainment is
included in the price!!!!(Yes, that means once you get there, you
won't need to spend another penny!!!) For the volleyball portion the
cost is $1550 for the land portion. We have found a very cheap
flights recently.... for example $356.20 out of Atlanta this week.
If you have a friend
that would love to go but doesn't play ball, they can come for $1300
and get a taste of all the sports/disciplines that USV is offering,
or just hang out and enjoy all that club med has to offer.
I can say first hand that there is no better way to improve your game
than to be coached by the pro's. As they have told me time and time
again, "It doesn't matter how many times you play, the only way you
will get better and really improve your game is to run drills". It's
true!
I am hoping to get a great turnout from my friends here in Atlanta.
I would love to have a whole week to play and party with all of you
that I know, and those of you I don't yet! You can go to
www.ultimatesportsvacations.com to read up on all the sports offered,
and see a schedule of events for the week. To read up on AL-B go to
www.alhannemann.com , www.volleyballvacations.com or
www.myspace.com/alhannemann . Please also feel free to contact me at
bb2nicole@... or 404-423-9973.
Hope to see you on the beach!!!!

Olympic Gold Medalist and the Nation's #1 skills instructor, Pat
Powers, will conduct a 12-hour volleyball clinic on Monday & Tuesday,
August 13-14 @ The Hoop in Portland. The clinic will run from 9AM-4
PM Monday and 9AM-2PM Tuesday. This clinic is for junior boys/girls
(ages 12-18) and adult players.

***************FREE T-SHIRT TO ALL PARTICIPANTS**************
             ****************About 25 Spots Left******************

The revolutionary method of skill development is:
*Step one: Theory
*Step two: Demonstration
*Step three: Over-Correction of skill
*Step four: Drill using Over-Correction
*Step five: At the end of the day, we play Survivor. Survivor is a
Queen/King of the court game played with the rules of over-correction.

Hitters!
* Learn how to snap instead of hit a ball
* Learn how to hit out of your approach
* Learn a one step fix to jump higher and hit harder
* Learn the correct approaches for outside and middle hitters

Setters!
* Learn how to set from your wrist
* Learn how to set past your apex of your jump
* Learn how to set against the flow

Everybody!
1. Learn why you should backspin a volleyball when passing.
2. Learn how to play defense by watching only the hitter.
3. Learn how to time a set; how to time your hitters.
4. Learn how to develop your peripheral vision when hitting.
5. Learn how to make your float serve dance.
6. Learn how to get into position on defense.
7. Learn the rules of non-verbal communication.
8. Learn the rule of ball control.
9. Juniors: Learn how to position yourself for a college scholarship
10. Learn the game in a non-intimidating environment.

Skill level!
We have fun! One hour into the clinic, participants are assigned an
appropriate court determined by age and skill level. The safety and
comfort level of all players is a primary goal of the clinic. The
curriculum has been developed to accommodate intermediate players and
novices. Current skill level is not an issue.

Three fundamental team concepts stressed in the clinic are:
1. Playing the game three seconds into the future.
2. Using peripheral vision.
3. Reacting to bodies instead of the ball.

EVP National Pro Tour and NPBVA Local Pro Tour combined this weekend
to host a Professional Beach Volleyball Event in Seaside, Oregon. The
weather was perfect at the beach as the bronzed athletes took to
competition, all in search of the championship title.

The Men's Pro Division had the Seattle team of Jeremy Irey and Scott
Behrbaum cruising through a strong field of teams to make the men's
finals while Brain Chapman of Portland, and teammate Ken Murczek of
Chicago had to dig deep to reach the finals. Jeremy Irey's amazing
defense and Scott Behrbaum monster block proved to be too much for
Chapman/Murczek as Irey/Behrbaum took the Men's Championship Title in
2 sets 21-17, 21-19.

The Women's Pro Division had local veterans and sisters Wendy Stammer
and Gale Stammer, against the the young guns and former teammates at
U of O, Kelly Russell and Ally Leavitt. While the incredibly athletic
team of Russell/Leavitt played like seasoned veterans, the experience
of the Stammer sisters prevailed as Stammer/Stammer took the Women's
Championship Title in 2 sets 21-18, 21-19.

More results from Saturday's Men's/Women's Pro Division:

Men's Pro:
1st Scott Behrbaum/ Jeremy Irey
2nd Brian Chapman/ Ken Murczek
3rd Matt Mueller/ Cliff Monson
3rd Aaron Hansen/ Pat Licari
5th Steve Whitaker/ Jack Laidlaw
5th Chris Littleman/ Joe Tassia
7th Jason Franulovich/ Cam Black
7th Leo Pitsul/ Aaron Boe

Women's Pro:
1st Wendy Stammer/Gale Stammer
2nd Kelly Russell/ Ally Leavitt
3rd Lindsey Aitchison/Richell Wilson
3rd Leanne Haarbauer/Marnie Adams
5th Leah Knight/ Allison Sheaffer
5th Heather Dye/Kathy LaViene
7th Chelsea Hewitt/ Sondra Larsen
7th Cheryl Marthaller/ Michelle Pisarsky

Men's AA Division had local Seaside player Dan Roberts and Seattle
player Matt Adams taking the Men's AA title. Women's AA had local
Seaside players Nikki Gascoigne and Julie Poyer taking the Women's AA
title.

Sunday's results:

The Coed AAA Division had one of Seattle's top coed teams (Steve
Whitaker and Brianna Murray) in the finals against one of Portland's
top coed teams (Brian Chapman and Kelly Russell). It was the women
putting on a digging clinic in this match up as Murray dug everything
Chapman had, while Russell had some amazing digs against Whitaker. In
the end Chapman/Russell pulled out the win in 3 sets.

The Coed A Division had one of Salem's top coed teams (John Shewey
and Kathy LaVeine) taking the Coed A title.

For more information about beach volleyball or if you are interested

Just wanted to send out a last reminder about the 3rd Annual Spartan
Grass Volleyball Doubles Tournament coming up this Saturday. Men's
division is looking great with a good number of entries already, but
there is plenty of room for more. Women's could use a few more, but I
think we'll end up with at least 6 teams and maybe more if a few of
you ladies out there sign up. 18U is looking great with 5 teams
already confirmed to be there, so come out and join us for a great
day in McMinnville. Tournament is at Joe Dancer Park. Start time is
9:30, and we should be done by 5-6:00 in the evening. We have at
least 5 nets ready to go, so there will be lots of playing and not a
lot of sitting. Cost is $20 for adults and $10 for 18U girls. If you
want to play, send me an e-mail or give me a call and I'll get you
the rest of the details. This tournament will have pool play and a
double elimination (up to the final 4 crossover) tournament to find
the champions. Cash and prizes to the winning teams. Come out and
support Sheridan High School Volleyball and play in a great
tournament. See you out there.

***MEDIA ALERT***
Extreme Volleyball Pros Make First Visit to Seaside Beach

The Extreme Volleyball Professionals tour embraces Seaside, OR as a
host city, Saturday, June 30, for the first time in their 14-season
history— the midpoint of 22 cross-country stops! The traveling, two-
on-two beach volleyball series, better known as the EVP Tour,
features men's and women's professional divisions.

The Northwest Womens Pro Team of Kelly Russell and Ally Leavitt, Mens
Pro Team of Brian Chapman and Matt Mueller, showcase their West Coast
style, challenging other well-built, bronzed, EVP Pros like 2006
Players of the Year Rasa Virsilaite and Mike Dauernheim, in a double-
elimination format, for more than $5,000.

Families and fans are encouraged not only to take in the action, but
also take part in spectator games that are unique to the EVP's day-at-
the-beach-style event. For example, the Bump in the Bucket Contest
gives lucky onlookers the chance to win EVP gear—even the opportunity
to win a trip to the World Finals in Honolulu, Hawaii!

During the event, through 6pm on Seaside Beach , fans actually meet
pro players and try free volleyball clinics! Matt Heath of team
Charleston reminds, "You get to watch great athletes who perform at
the highest level, athletes who work hard all year, and come down to
perform in a new arena. It's a great way to meet athletes, learn
about the game, and the beach volleyball community is pretty nice.
You won't run into too many people who won't give you pointers."

All registration must be done by email through Tournament Director,
Brian Chapman at: probeachusa@....

Hey Guys,

We would like to thank all of you that made our May 12th
Tryout/Practice a great success. It was great fun to watching Ryan
Jay Owens (Greece), Andy Tomkinson (UCSB), Brennan Prahler (UCLA),
Donny Harris (UCSB), Mackay Wilson (BYU), Tanner Sutherland
(Pepperdine), and 25 others soar to new heights. It was a great
event that will help grow the American Pro Volleyball League into
something special. Victor Batista (BYU), Casey Patterson (BYU),
Lance Walker (Pepperdine), Scott Faust (UH), Dan Conners (UCLA),
Chris Komer (LBSU), Matt Komer (UCLA) and others are "flying" in on
the 20th for our next event. It should be monstrous! You won't want
to miss it.

That's this Sunday, May 20th at Irvine Valley College, in Irvine, CA,
from 8:30 am-2:00 pm and at our new Chicago Area site at Carthage
College, 2000 Alford Park Drive, Kenosha, WI, 53140, from 5pm-8pm..
(For details see articles in our May Issue of Pro Volleyball News).
And, we'll have more throughout 2007, leading to our inaugural 5 team
league in Jan, Feb, and March of 2008. All players that have turned
out or have been invited to one of our practices/tryouts are welcome
to attend, but let us know if want to attend. We are going to limit
the number of players to this event to 30. We strongly encourage
anyone that is sincere about making the team to show your stuff now,
before we have to begin making our cuts. Also, we have updated our
May Pro Volleyball News online newsletter. Please go to our site:
www.goAPVL.com and check it out for more details about the APVL. We
will keep updating weekly as more information becomes available. We
consider it a work in progress.

Thanks again,
Ray Goto

The 3rd Annual Spartan Grass Volleyball Tournament is coming around
again. We've moved the date back a week this year to June 23rd, so
the weather should be even better, and it won't conflict with teams
travelling to Reno. Last year we had about 20 teams total, and we
would like to see that number increase to 30 this year across all
three divisions. Here are the details:

Location: Joe Dancer Park - 1650 SE Brooks Street, McMinnville, OR
Start Time: Captains Meeting 9:15am, play begins at 9:30am
Purpose: Fundraiser for Sheridan High School Volleyball
Rules: USAV outdoor volleyball rules will be followed.
Ball: Spalding KOB All Weather Ball will be used on all courts
Divisions: Mens Doubles - Cash and Merchandise Prizes.
Womens Doubles - Cash and Merchandise Prizes.
18U Girls Doubles - Merchandise Prizes
Format: Pool play followed by a double elimination tournament.
Cost: $20/player in the Men's and Women's divisions.
$10/player in the 18U Girls division.

Registration fee and entry form must be returned by June 20th to
reserve your spot in the tournament. Walk up registration will be
accpected (provided the tournament is not full) at an additional
$5/team.

For more information or to receive an official registration form,
send me an e-mail at mleichty@... or give me a call at the
number below.

This tournament has had great competition and has been very
successful its first two years, so come out and help us make this the
best year yet.
