Olympic Gold Medalist and the nation's #1 skill instructor, Pat Powers will be
coming to The Hoop to present his highly successful volleyball skills clinic.

Where: The Hoop
When: Wednesday & Thursday, August 12th-13th. 9am-4pm on Wednesday and
9am-2pm on Thursday.
Ages: Girls & Boys ages 12-18 & Adults
Registration fee: $135
Experience: Novice through advanced. Players are divided up on three or four
courts one hour into the event. Generally speaking, we have one court of 12-13
year olds (novice), one court of 14-16 year olds and one court of advanced
girls, boys and adults.

Why are these clinics the best? The "over-correction" learning method combined
with "Survivor" has the advantage of skill development while you are playing.
These advanced skills are downloaded into the motor memory through massive
repetition while the player is competing in a non-intimidating environment.
Note: This clinic is not about competition. It is about skill development.

******We have about 29 spots left for these events*****************

WHAT IS COVERED IN THE CLINIC

** Learn the mechanics of a perfect arm swing.
** Learn how to control the ball, control power and be quicker with one simple
move while underhand passing.
** Setters: Learn what to look at and how to make your hitters better.
** Defensive players: Learn what NOT to look at when you play defense.
** Peripheral vision is a must in all sports! Learn how we use it in
volleyball.
** Learn four simple rules of communication that teach you how to think three
seconds ahead and make the players around you better.
** And Much More.............

Hello Coaches,
My name is Tony Fathergill and I am the founder of PACIFIC COAST VOLLEYBAL
CAMPS! I founded PCV Camps 13 years ago in San Jose, California with many goals
in mind. My main goal has always been to offer an amazing camp experience at a
very affordable price and the best part is- we travel to you! Yes- my highly
educated and talented staff travels to your school or facility to teach your
kids the essential fundamentals of our great sport of volleyball! We want to
spread our tremendous knowledge of volleyball in order to help your kids reach
their individual and team goals! Why travel to another over packed- over priced
camp when you could stay right at home and have a more productive and
inexpensive camp? Through my knowledge and experience I have found a receipe
that produces possitive results! I am so sure and proud that our system works-
I guarentee every PCV Camp. I would also be happy to get you plenty of

www.VolleyballVacations.com  is doing it again and taking you to another beautiful location. This time we are going to Honolulu, Hawaii on March1-8, 2009. Join AVP champion AL-B Hannemann and other pros and escape the cold weather and treat yourself to a week of fun in the sun. This 8th annual trip is unique because we only take a small group of 30 people and show everyone Oahu from the locals perspective. It is a much more intimate trip and you will spend quality time on and off the courts.

We are staying at the perfectly located Resort Quest Waikiki Beach Hotel right across the street from the volleyball courts. This hotel is home to the famous "tiki bar and grill" which we frequent often to watch perfect sunsets while listening to local live music. They also are known for their amazing "breakfast on the beach,"included in the package. Learn to surf, ride in a catamaran or simply enjoy the warmth of the sun you have been thinking about. Witness the giant waves of the North Shore, see huge fish snorkeling at Hanuama Bay and hike Diamond Head Crater--just a few of the things planned for this unforgettable trip.

Pricing starts at $1190 for double occupancy and $1765 for single occupancy. We started accepting bookings on Tuesday January 13. Go to Volleyball Vacations  to book online anytime or call Pleasant Holidays (our provider for the Hawaii VBV trip) at 800-865-5699 or email allyson.davy@.... Pricing is based upon availability at time of booking.

See you on the beach!

The 2009 Polar Bear Classic Re-Cap:
Last Saturday was by far the most fun and exciting blind-draw tourney
npbva has ever had!!

The semi's had Michael Seeman's squad of Ann(Salem), Courtney
(Vancouver), and Mike(Eugene) getting past Rich Nelson's team;
Michelle(Portland) , Derek(Portland) , Deng(Portland) , in 3 games as
players from each team took turns bouncing balls from the sand to the
rafters!

The other semi had Kerry Becker's team; Doug(Salem), Amanda(San
Francisco), Michael(Newberg) , Martin(Portland) playing against
Denis 'The Gentle Giant' Zhukov's squad; Chris(Newberg) , Anne
(Portland), Leo T.(Portland) . The battle exchange at the net was one
for the ages as Kerry 'Has anyone seen the movie Benjamin Button?'
Becker and 'The Gentle Giant' each put on a show bouncing ball around
each others block then in turn blocking each other, most of which
were played close to 2ft over the net! As a volley fan I would pay
more than the cost of a court-side Blazer ticket to watch that
again!! At the end of the 3-game match Denis and crew advanced to the
finals.

The triple threat attack of Michael, Mike, and Courtney again pushed
Denis and crew to 3 games, but once again 'The Gentle Giant"
prevailed. Congrats to Denis, Chris, Anne, and Leo! Thanks again to
everyone who played, especially those that came from as far away as
Bend, Vancouver, Eugene, and S.F.!

This resort is amazing and after 20 million dollars in renovations it is regarded as club meds premier resort. It is a perfect destination to hold another highly anticipated sold out volleyball vacation. This village offers everything for couples, singles and families with an amazing kids club where your children can be entertained all day while you side out and learn from the pros.

Get someone you love the perfect Christmas present or treat yourself to a week of fun in the sun.  Escape the cold weather and play and party with the top AVP pro beach volleyball players for organized tournaments, clinics and pro am games. These vacations have been keeping people smiling on amazing beaches for over 15 years. We are currently offering a savings of $200! We are offering a Yahoo Group loyalty discount and will guarantee you the $1299 discount for the holidays until January 31st. The discount code is "VBVthanksyou2009" and you can input that code directly on the www.volleyballvacations.com  website as you can book directly on the site under the loyality program. We just returned from our very successful two sold out fall trips in October in Cancun and November in the Turks and Caicos islands. The Turks and Caicos trip featured Gold Medalists Kerri Walsh and Phil Dalhausser where the Olympians were gracious enough to let everyone wear their Gold medals while taking pictures with them.

Have you ever wanted to be coached by the best players in the world while vacationing on a beautiful tropical island? Ever try to hit a ball around the best blockers in the world Phil Dalhausser and Kerri Walsh then have dinner with them and ask them about their Gold Medals? How about having a beer with Casey Jennings and Nick Lucena and ask them about their defensive techniques and how they dig everything. Ask Angela Lewis how fun it is to play on the women's tour and how she trains to get top 5 finishes? Hit nectar sets from AL-B Hannemann and Canyon Ceman while Paige Davis is helping you correct your hitting approach. Video Jason Ring, Anthony Medel and Matt Olson while they pound balls into the sand then ask them how to improve your vertical jump. These are the opportunities you will have to improve your game while joining these pros on the upcoming volleyball vacations trips.

We have 1 pro coach for every 5 volleyball vacationers. It is a ratio that we are very proud of. Come and see what all the hype is about before both trips sell out. The personalized coaching you will receive from these friendly pros does not happen anywhere else on earth. Surround yourself with like minded people from all over the world and meet great friends and create memories that will last a lifetime. Play volleyball all day or party with new friends all night. The choice is up to you at volleyball vacations!

See you on the beach!

Format of the Hot Winter Nights Tour
Round-robin format set to see exciting competition

Now that summer has come and gone, it is easy to assume that for beach volleyball players it is time to head inside to wait out the winter months. Ironically though, this is exactly how several of the AVP athletes plan on spending their offseason, as they will soon be moving their beach game indoors as part of the AVP Johnsonville Hot Winter Nights Tour. Starting in January, AVP athletes and staff will pack up the beach and head out on a 17-city tour, visiting indoor arenas in various cities throughout the East Coast, Midwest, and Pacific Northwest. Fans at each of the Hot Winter Nights events will be able to escape from the cold winter weather and experience the same beach party atmosphere that is found on the summer tour, all while enjoying the competition of the AVP's top athletes.
The format for the Hot Winter Nights Tour will be different from what is seen on the summertime AVP Crocs Tour, but is sure to provide fans with some extremely exciting and entertaining competition.
Instead of playing in set teams, a round-robin format will be used to determine both a men's and women's individual champion. Each event will showcase four men's and four women's athletes, who will battle it out on the sand to determine the best player on the beach for the night.
Each stop on the tour will start out with pool play, which will feature three matches per gender. Players will rotate partners for each match, allowing each player to team together once. An abbreviated game format will be used for pool play, with each match consisting of one game to 15 points.
At the end of pool play, the two players with the best records will advance to the final where they will square off to determine the night's champion. The player with the best record will have first pick of their partner for the championship match. The final will consist of one game played to 15 points, must win by two.
In its second year, the AVP Johnsonville Hot Winter Nights Tour is guaranteed to bring some heat to the chilly winter months.
The 2009 Johnsonville Hot Winter Nights Tour takes place in January and February of 2009. For a complete 2009 AVP Johnsonville Hot Winter Nights Tour schedule and tickets, click here

US Open of Beach Volleyball moves to Santa Barbara

By Bernie Wilson, AP Sports Writer

SAN DIEGO — If Karch Kiraly were still playing competitive beach
volleyball, he'd have a home-sand advantage in the U.S. Open of Beach
Volleyball.

Kiraly, the world's most-decorated volleyball player, announced
Tuesday that the second U.S. Open of Beach Volleyball will be played
at East Beach in his hometown of Santa Barbara from Sept. 26-28.

Kiraly will serve as host of what is billed as one of the nation's
largest grass roots beach volleyball tournaments. It's expected to
attract more than 500 players from across the country.

The inaugural tournament was held last year in Huntington Beach,
which is known more for surfing.

"If Huntington Beach is Surf City USA, I'd call Santa Barbara
Volleyball City USA," Kiraly said during a conference call. "At least
one of two or three."

Kiraly grew up "a quick bike ride" from East Beach.

"It's a phenomenal place to hold an event and I was lucky enough to
be able to ride my bike there, because I started playing there
several years before I ever had a driver's license," he said. "I
wanted to be the first one down there in the morning and the last one
to leave."

It certainly paid off. He won Olympic gold medals with the U.S.
indoor teams in 1984 and 1988, and he and Kent Steffes won the first
Olympic beach volleyball gold medal at Atlanta in 1996. During his
pro career he won a record 148 tournaments, with 13 different
partners, and $3.1 million.

The U.S. Open of Beach Volleyball will feature competition in 16
divisions for men, women and coed teams. It is sanctioned by USA
Volleyball.

Kiraly will be at the tournament for the opening day, head to Arizona
for the TV broadcast of an AVP tournament on Saturday, then return
Sunday to hand out awards.

"This is some of the world's best sand and it's one of the most
beautiful places to play," Kiraly said. "I would love it if it kind
of becomes an annual pilgrimage that everybody makes to one of
volleyball's meccas."

Kiraly wrapped up his long pro career in 2007. He doesn't miss the
competition but stays plenty busy as an ambassador and TV
commentator, including calling beach volleyball doing the Beijing
Olympics. He still plays, whether it's with his sons, his wife and
her friends, or, as he plans to do on Wednesday, as a sparring
partner for two-time Olympic beach gold medalists Misty May-Treanor
and Kerri Walsh.

"I still love to get out there," he said. "I just needed to really
give my knees a break. It was brutal to keep up with those young guys
and try to hit the ball past Phil Dalhausser and have to jump 310,
320 times a weekend, max jumps, and really tough on the knees and the
shoulders."

Dalhausser and Todd Rogers won the men's beach volleyball gold medal
in Beijing.

Kiraly turns 48 in November.

"My body's feeling great," he said. "I hope to, once things calm down
a little, actually participate in the U.S. Open for many years, and
I'd love to be out there when we have the 70-and-over and 75-and-over
edition. It's awesome to watch those guys go at it, and I'd like to
be one of those guys, too. But I figure the more I burned it on the
front end here on the AVP, the less chance I'd ever have to do that,
instead of being in a wheelchair watching."

The U.S. Open of Beach Volleyball is presented by Corona Extra.
