The fourth of July swim was fabulous and was a challenge. I don't like to wear a wetsuit and when Isabel said she was going to do the swim without one, I figured I could try. I think there were four of us who didn't wear one. Even the people who wore wetsuits said it was cold!!! I never stopped, because I couldn't. It was too cold!!!! And yes, the current working against us made it even more challenging. When I was under Rainbow Bridge, I could tell from the rocks below me that I was swimming but not moving forward:)
During the swim I had frequent thoughts(like every minute) to just get out. I like to think that I am a tough person, but this tested my toughness. But I kept going because well, there was another DAM swimmer in the water without a wetsuit(Isabel) and I think the kayak was a one person kayak. There wouldn't be any room for me.
Anyway, I have so much more respect for you cold water swimmers and for Isabel, because she was willing to do it alone, without a wetsuit, completed it in good time and is willing to do it AGAIN. I don't know if I am tough enough to do it again. Maybe I will kayak next year:)

Hey all,
Just wanted to give you all an update on the 4th of July swim from Nimbus flat at lake Natoma up to the rainbow bridge after Negro bar. Lisa Martinez and I where representing DAM at this swim. Since the organization of the swim would be in big trouble if there were any signs of an organized swim going on(because of liability and insurance issues) we kinda all started whenever we were ready so some people left earlier some later. I think there must have been about 20 people swimming and there were some Kayaks. Ryan and Jon took Ryan's parents Kayaks and stayed with me and Lisa, since we were one of the few people without wet suits. The water I think must have been 57-59 all the way up, so I didn't feel like I was warming up at all during the whole swim. Jon stayed with Lisa the whole way and she didn't stop at all during the 4.5 miles. Ryan stayed with me and I stopped every once in a while to drink water or eat a gel
(man those things are nasty!). I finished at exactly 3hrs but I think it took me 1hr to go from Negro bar to the bridge. The current was pretty strong and if I stopped at all i would immediately start drifting back towards Natoma. I was tired cold and cranky but just put my head down and kept on going. I think what really made me want to finish was seeing this guy in a wetsuit trying so hard to move forward and just swimming in place while I stood drinking water in a shallower part of the river. I thought if he's not giving up I can't give up either! I think there were some people that got pulled out by the kayaks due to hypothermia, but overall i think everyone finished and felt pretty good (after some food and a nap!).

Hey Lisa,
Sorry i only checked my email this late.
I am still gonna swim. I'll have two kayakers with me and we're all meeting at
the aquatic center (free parking!) at 8:30. The state park is within walking
distance but you have to pay for parking. Call me if you wanna meet up (530) 400

Are you still planning on swimming tomorrow? IF so, are you just going to meet the group at the county beach park at 9? Is that walking distance from the aquatic center?
Thank you,

I'll join in on the fun. I won't be wearing a wetsuit so I asked my boyfriend to kayak for me in case I'm way behind everyone else. Where will you guys meet? Aquatic center by the picnic tables at 9am? Keep me posted! Thanks
We are meeting at the Sudworks just above Negro Bar by Rainbow bridge at 8:00 A.M. and carpooling to the start of swim, probably 15 to 20 swimmers.

I'm looking to buy a wetsuit. Does anyone have a women's Blue Seventy/Ironman brand wetsuit they want to sell? I need a women's medium-large (size ML).I prefer a full-sleeved. If you have another brandyou're trying to sell, let me know and if I haven't already eliminated it, I'd love to try it on.
Alternatively, I'm considering taking advantage of the Xterra sale, so if anyone has feedback on Xterra wetsuits, I'd love to hear it. Specifically what body shapes they work well for.

Hi Chuck,
I'll join in on the fun. I won't be wearing a wetsuit so I asked my boyfriend to kayak for me in case I'm way behind everyone else. Where will you guys meet? Aquatic center by the picnic tables at 9am? Keep me posted! Thanks

We leave at 9:00 from the county park beach just past the Aquatic Center and finish just past the Rainbow Bridge on the South side of the river.

8 K, not really a race, most wear wetsuits and stop half way for a short break. Finish at Rainbow bridge and car pool back to aquatic center, some stay and have lunch at Cliff House.

Emily,
Are you guys still swimming? I have not seen anything come across lately.
Anyone who wants warmer water might be interested in heading to Beal's Point at Folsom Lake. It was 75 last weekend for the FLOW swim race. The Sac Tri Club is swimming there at 8am tomorrow. I'll either be there or biking with my husband.
Question re: wetsuits (again!) - for those of you who use wetsuits, any preference between sleeveless and full sleeved?

Hey Jack,
Emily is out of town, but I know she did a longer swim (4ish hr) last week. Everyone has been so busy lately that swims have been planned last minute.
Tomorrow a group of girls from our swim team who just found out they got in the Tahoe relay is leaving Davis at 7:30 heading out to Natoma for a swim. I think we'll probably start swimming at 8:30 ish and swim about an hr. We're probably all much slower than you but if you wanna join us that would be cool
Chuck, that swim on July 4th sounds real fun. I might join you guys!
