Hello DAM open-water swimmers!
Sorry I've been away from this group from awhile...but my boyfriend Jeff is
doing better and I'm back coaching,(and swimming)! As you’ve heard in the
DAM newsletter, I’ll be swimming and coaching at the Whiskeytown One and
Two Mile Swim on Sunday, September 9th. The lake is located in the
Whiskeytown Recreation Area, and some swimmers will be camping overnight at
the Oakbottom Campground. It is first-come, first-serve, but you can also
make reservations at
http://www.nps.gov. We will be going up on the 8th. If
you are not up for camping, I’m sure you can stay at the nearby hotels in
Redding. I recommend making reservations and sharing a site with 2-3 people.
There are no on-line entries so you can either mail them in or sign up on
race day. Pre-race entries are $20 for each race, $30 for both, and $10
extra for race day entries. Entries must be post-marked by August 31st to
Redding Swim Team, c/o Terri Misslin, 2193 Cadjew St., Redding, CA, 96003.
If you do not have a consolidated entry card from your USMS Magazine I can
bring some extras to the pool.
I hear the conditions in the lake are very nice, and the temperature of
65-70 should be comfortable for most swimmers. Be sure to bring a bright
cap, an extra suit, plenty of water and hot tea just in case you get chills
afterwards. I’ve learned from experience after swimming in Berryessa this
past winter. With that said, I’m looking forward to some DAM fun, (and
fast) swims! If you have any more questions, feel free to email me or call
the meet director – Terri Misslin, at (530) 221-5550. I will be in New York
from the 11-21 of August but will try to reply to any emails.
Swimmingly,
Emily Hughes
