Hello all - I have been lurking the last few weeks awaiting my actual arrival in Northern Cal before posting. My husband and I just moved back to Northern Cal from the US Virgin Islands, where we got into open water swimming. (We had moved from Berkeley to the VI two years ago.) I'm sure it's totally different here, but we're hoping to do some swims and see if we can brave the cold, dark waters. The Donner Lake swim sounds interesting. We're still looking for a place to live in the Sacramento area, but if things are settled down enough maybe we will make it out there for the swim. Does anyone know the temperature of the water? I didn't see it on their website ( http://www.sierranevadamasters.com/)
Hope to meet some of you soon!
Kendra
p.s. any info on good areas for sports enthusiasts (tris, cycling, hiking, kayaking?) to live in the greater Sac area (Davis? Auburn?) can be sent to kendranielsam@... :)

Hi Kendra, Welcome to No Cal. The temperature is listed as between 65 and 68 degrees for the swim at the Sierra Nevada site. Maybe they hadn't posted it...
