The 0630 ride garnered seven people.  Paul Nowak led us out the Maple. Ave.-Plainfield-Cass route to Waterfall Glen with instructions written on his arm in ballpoint pen.  This is the same route Warren led the group on while I was on vacation.  I was astonished to hear of the 18.3 average they had on that ride.

Turns out, it's a fast route.  Few stops, fairly flat.  Taking nothing away from Warren of Lake-Harlem -- who was clearly loafing -- Kieran and Adrian who led that foray, our group managed 18.1.

Turns out the route is also shorter.  34 miles, instead of the usual 40.  We left at 0630 and got back about 0830.  Early enough for church-goers.  It was fun to get out on some straightaways and let it rip in our modest way.

The weather was beautiful, temperature mild, and there was no wind.  You really don't want to be on Cass when the traffic picks up, and Plainfield can get a little dicey as well, but this is a great early morning route, especially for the hill-averse.

This is a great route for practicing for longer rides and for pace-lining.  I will always be game if anyone ever posts that they want to do this route and do it fast.  I believe that we can get out to Waterfall Glen with a 19 plus average.  Want to try it one of these weekends?

Frontage Rd. to Clarendon Hills Rd. to Plainfield to Wolf to Cossit.  Dave Dallam and I did most of the pulling on the way back.

Dave even made a strong 3 block pull on Longcommon doing 26 and 27, then the whole damn group attacked and creamed us.  Where's the love?  Where's the gratitude?

There was even some guy we'd never seen before who materialized and got into the sprint, then prompty disappeared after inserting himself into the mix.

Ahh, you took a different route on the way back.
We did the 91st Street route on the return with Warren.
Still, I am impressed by your 18.1 avg great work!

Who won the sprint?

Steve, I guess in your old age you’ve been reduced to a domestique then.

Sharmeless parasite…ouch!

Gloating?  Hardly!  I’m just having a good time and enjoying the camaraderie of a great group of people who are out to get some exercise on two wheels.

Paul N

See everybody on Tuesday morning at BB, weather permitting.   5:30 AM

There you go again, setting people up to burn themselves out pulling you at ever increasing speeds along most of the route, so you can blow by them with fresh legs on Longcommon.

Ah Paul, that you would sink so low as to use a senior citizen as your personal domestique.  What price, glory?

This is one step away from granny-bashing.

This is a great route for practicing for longer rides and for pace-lining.  I will always be game if anyone ever posts that they want to do this route and do it fast.  I believe that we can get out to Waterfall Glen with a 19 plus average.  Want to try it one of these weekends?

The 0630 ride garnered seven people.  Paul Nowak led us out the Maple. Ave.-Plainfield- Cass route to Waterfall Glen with instructions written on his arm in ballpoint pen.  This is the same route Warren led the group on while I was on vacation.  I was astonished to hear of the 18.3 average they had on that ride.

Turns out, it's a fast route.  Few stops, fairly flat.  Taking nothing away from Warren of Lake- Harlem -- who was clearly loafing -- Kieran and Adrian who led that foray, our group managed 18.1.

Steve:
I know that technology has passed you by, but, if you are able to listen to the TdF on your transistor radio, you’ll know that there is strategy used by all of the riders out on the road.  Obviously, there are team strategies, but since we don’t have teams, it’s each man for themselves once we hit Longcommon.

I believe you made the choice to be up front once we turned on to Longcommon.  Nobody placed you up there.  Nobody forced you to go there.  You took it and you did what you could.  We all know that the lead-out rider stands a slim chance of winning with the likes of our group breathing down their neck, doing 70% of the work that the leader is doing.  If you didn’t want to be there, which was evident just a short way in, you can always jump in at the back and work your way up to the front.

Everybody knows that you are just sand-bagging and are getting your legs back after being in Canada for 3 weeks.  Super Olderr is out there just waiting for the right moment to attack.

Enough for now.

Paul N

Who's in for the Melon Metric? That would be a great venue for the
OPC15 group to have some fun riding as a team. I'm registering today.

I want to do this ride, but given the vagaries of the weather, don't make it a practice to register in advance.  Mike Schnell wants to go as well.  Wasn't Paul Forsythe thinking about it as well?

Who's in for the Melon Metric? That would be a great venue for the
OPC15 group to have some fun riding as a team. I'm registering today.

I was toying with the idea of 100 miles, but I think everyone else so far is thinking 62.  Hard to say how the course will be set up, if you get to make the century decision late in the ride, that would be good.
